5 MUST-HAVE Sports Photography Tips for Amazing Shots
Hello, I just want to clarify that I am an independent journalist and photographer. I have obtained media passes for events, and there is nothing illegal about running your own media company. Independent media is a vital part of journalism.
I just started shooting sports at my school on a whim, and it's going better than I expected. It gives me an opportunity to connect with students in a more personal way, and your tips have been very valuable in getting some quality shots. I have a Canon M50 Mk II with some budget lenses, but as Rumsfeld sort of said, you go to the game with the camera you have. Thanks for helping me get more out of what I've got.
Thanks for sharing this valuable information. I found it to be very helpful. A+
This is one of the best teams in college
Thanks for the info bro. I'm thinking about trying to shoot some highschool basket ball games and football games. I am a beginner street photographer and just purchased a 55-250mm canon lens for my Canon M50. I know it's a f4 lens but when you are on a budget you take what you have and what you can get and try to work with it best you can. I'm really enjoying street photography and learning so much since I've started. I just subscribed to your channel. Thanks again bro. Keep shooting.
This video ROCKS 💯 It's rare that I take notes from a video, but for this one, I did. Great rundown on field positions, the equipment used, and the types of shots you look to get.
🔥🔥🔥
great video
great video
One piece of advice is to start small. By that, I mean you probably won't be successful going to a Division I school and asking for a sideline pass for football or men's basketball as your first request. Think of the less covered sports. I started my DI access doing rowing and women's tennis, then moved into volleyball. Although I now do some football, I find that I personally like baseball and volleyball the best and concentrate there. Remember that all those athletes have parents who want photos, and the sports information people love shots of the 'lesser' sports because they get panned by so many photographers who only want to get access to football or MBB.
This is an excellent video. I have a mentor of sorts who told me that as well as knowing your sport, you should understand you can't be everywhere so if the action is taking place away from you, and you cannot get the shot, find something else to take a photo of. Nobody is interested in photos of people's backs at long range. For example, if you're shooting soccer and a goal is scored at the other end of the field, use the opportunity to get crowd reaction shots, or be aware of a player close to you reacting to the goal and get him. You can get valuable images this way that tell the story of the game. It doesn't all have to be about what takes place on the pitch.
Maaan, great tips. I’m in 8u Baseball about 7 games in and I’m getting the hang of it, some of the tips you had I’ve been doing. Thank you so much from 2024.
I'm happy to have found your content!!!! How this video only has 12K views is beyond me; Great Job!!!!!

Go Army! I shoot my son’s baseball game and the parents love the shots, because I have a big lens and get the shots from either dugout. I enjoy your videos and work 👍👍

Jack lot!!! Shooting my daughters field hockey games with a canon 300 2.8 and 70-200. 20-20 long lens and 20-goal 70-200. Nice. I find myself all over the place. Field isn’t the same but I get it. Thanks

My first time here, im about to shoot Peewee Football. I been shooting for a year and i been grinding!!! i shoot with a Nikon D3200 and i have a 35mm (52mm on my crop) and 55-200 (82.5-300mm on my crop) and i just wanted some pointers. i been doing street photography and event photography. My son played baseball and I shot pictures of the games and gave them to the parents. I loved it and the parents were very happy to have the pictures as well.
Hey Battle, do you ever mentor others?
Please!!!
What’s your typical setting for a night game at the HS level Where lights are not that good. 1/1000 2.8 10,000 iso ?
This is great! Thanks.
I know this video is 3 years old, but thank you for it. I took notes and am going to apply these on my photoshoot this week. Great video!
Tamo junto irmão!!!!
Thanks so much for posting your content. I'm looking to do my first coverage of some high school football games in Maryland this year. This has really helped to start to form some plans of attack. I see it's been a good bit since this video and hope your doing well.
Do you think 600mm is too long for baseball ? I shoot canon full frame. I own 100-300-mm Rf 2.8 and 600mm Rf F4
The canon m50 mark ii is a better cheaper alternative to the 7D
Great vid dude... former 12b here turned photographer.
How can I get in contact with you my friend??
