Well, I don't understand why we gringos/yankees call it a flip turn since it is not a 360 degree rotation. I did not like the drill where you spin the full 360 degrees, and prefer to do it where I end up in stream line position. If you are in a pool that is shallow, like 2 meters max, you can start up by pushing off the bottom of the pool and take a stroke or two, then repeat the 180 degree tumble. If you are following the black line down the center of the lane, this helps keep you in line. This is a bit closer to the swim a few meters away from the wall, do the 180 degree tumble, and then head back to the wall. There was no mention of what to do with your arms, and they are a key element in speeding up the tumble. Hands at your sides, palms to the bottom of the pool. After you tuck your head/chin, and about the same time you do that little dolphin kick to accelerate your rotation, your arms pull from your hips to the stream line position, and you keep about the same amount of bend at your elbow as you do with your arm pull in freestyle, around 120 degrees. There was an old school method that taught that the arms are not supposed to be used. I don't think anyone teaches that way. If it is good enough for Caleb Dressel, and Katie Ledecky, and pretty much all of the elite swimmers to do the bicep curl to speed up your rotation, then it is good enough for me. I see your swimmers doing all sorts of arm movements to help them get around. Probably most energy inefficient one is sticking your arms out to the side and doing the wind mill thing....
