Doug you missed some really fun quirks: - Air compressor for blowing tyres located under the seat (the actual compressor pump is in the trunk but you can put that hose thing into the passenger's front seat) -Cigarette lighters/charging places underneath the glovebox where passenger's feet would be -My GTS has a hidden compartment between the rear seats which expanded a quite long fabric that would go through the trunk. Figured that was a Ski pocket where you can put your ski gear in the trunk and they extend between the seats but the fabric would wrap it so no snow gets inside the seats
Compressor/ pump is under the passengers seat, well, under the pass seat under the unibody/chassis, not under the actual seat, like the connection point for the air hose is. The compressor tank/accumulator is under the floor in the cargo area, not the compressor.
I have a 2006 Cayenne S Titanium Edition (which I bought on Cars and Bids!), and I can tell you that as someone who almost never uses heated seats or only uses them for the first 5 minutes because even the lowest setting is too warm, the "1" setting on the Cayenne is perfect.

It was quick, gas mileage was terrible and parts weren't cheap (my dad used it as a daily driver), but every time I heared that V8, I knew I was having fun. Too bad he sold it and ever since then, he only had quite boring bmw's, mercedes' and volvo's :(
I'm on my 3rd Cayenne. Gen 1 Cayenne S, Gen 2 Cayenne Turbo and now Gen 3 Turbo. I've loved them all!! It is surprising to me that when we go snowmobiling or even drag the trailer to the track, how often that I'm stopped and asked "you're pulling that (22' V-nose trailer) with this?" And the other was when a guy in Ford pickup rolled down his window at a traffic light and asked is the trailer empty?? Of course it wasn't.... I had both of the first two on the track and they were both awesome!! I can't wait to get my gen 3 turbo on the track this summer. Both of my son's have older (gen 1) GTS and one of them is a manual. The Best SUV ever!!!

I have a 2009 Cayenne GTS, although it's the automatic 6-speed, and have taken it to the track and up in the mountains on logging roads - remarkably capable in both cases. The 2009 tech is a bit dated, but I still love the car. You missed the quirks about the 12v power plugs in the passenger foot well, double visors for driver and passenger, the mirror assist for parallel parking (passenger mirror drops to show the curb), heated steering wheel (perhaps that's an option?), and buttons on back of steering wheel to control lights on steering wheel buttons. The 7 blank spaces near the climate control are blank because the original dealer didn't order the options that would have filled those buttons. Yes, there were even more options! (I used to work for Porsche)
You'd think that Doug, someone that ALSO worked for Porsche, as far as I know, would be willing/able to research about it. It's really getting to a point it's making the videos less enjoyable, his decreased interest in researching options so he doesn't shoot from the hip in the videos.
I bought a '14 CGTS late last year and I can confirm it's an amazing suv....it handles like nothing else. Mine is PDCC equipped and I was keeping up with C8 vettes and bmw m4 through Tail of the Dragon, which is unreal for a 5k lb SUV! A proper ballerina. My previous car was a Maserati GranTurismo, and the GTS out accelerates, out-handles, and out performs that car in every measurable way while also being able to tow 7800 lbs, go off road, and carry 5 people in luxury and comfort. It's an amazing vehicle and so far has been rock solid at almost 80k miles. This gen of Cayenne didn't come with the manual but the 8 speed tiptronic is super, super quick. If you've ever driven a Macan, the shifts are as quick as the DCT in that. They are rev matched in sport mode, but obviously it's not quite as smooth as DCT. But it's very rapid, and the added benefit is an extra gear and the ability to tow huge amounts. I would love to drive one of these manuals one day super super cool truck!!!
@@Vivona23 very. Coming up on 90k miles power train is amazingly smooth. I will say though maintenance is not cheap unfortunately. 99% of what I’ve done since 70k miles has been preventative but it’s totaled around $6k. And there’s still some things that I could fix. I have no lights or catastrophic issues but the front end for example needs some work. Bushings/control arms etc. Parts are very expensive. So are basic things like oil changes, tires, etc. Make sure you can afford out of warranty maintenance for a 6 figure car and know most of it will be deferred when you buy it😂 but if you can it’s really a solid vehicle

PERFECT car in terms of maintenance and I definitely had fun pushing it. Amazing car I would 100% recommend one even used because seriously mine did phenomenal. Even my dads current Cayenne is amazing. I also think personally this is one of the best looking SUV's. I feel is they just made LED headlights and Taillights you could get away with it even today. Also add apple car play loll. I use a Bluetooth device, but the bose speakers are great even in today's standards!
Doug, the button on the wiper stalk that controls the little screen has been standard on all VW products for quite some time. At least from the mid 90s to the early 2010s. Quite intuitive when you use it for a little bit. The parking lights are actually a legal requirement in Europe, there are certain situations where you are supposed to turn them on, and in order to not drain the battery as much it is like that on many European cars, leave the blinker on turns on the parking light on that side.
How long before the battery gets low enough to make it, I assume, turn off so you still have enough power to start? How long could you leave your side lights on in older cars with incandescent bulbs and probably no auto-off?
Even my 2005 Skoda Fabia had it, the same button, but with a smaller screen, but seen the same thing in Audi A4 with better screen. And the rear armrest is the same as my Octavia’s rear armrest, with the shallow storage area
Cayenne and FX*. Have both of them and FX is still the car which make people turn their heads although it has more then 15 yrs. Cayenne is still spicy too.
I remember first seeing the turbo S on the interstate... It was moving effortlessly in and out of traffic and lanes. It was a rocketship! I was in a car and couldn't catch up to it until it hit traffic, but once it found a way out, it took off again! It's an SUV that thinks it's a motorcycle.
My 2012 Mazda 3 also have 5 stages of heating for the seats, so i got Porsche DNA in my Mazda. For real, the manual Cayenne GTS is my favorite SUV of all time. I was a kid when it came out and always thought it was cool to offer it with this transmission. Thank you very much for this review!

Man, I wish I'd seen this when the auction was still live. Finding a Cayenne of ANY trim with a manual transmission is like looking for some mythical, nonexistent, fairy tale creature. I presume it's because anyone who has one is hanging onto it. $25.5K for that GTS 6MT...damn, what a deal. Looked like it was in decent shape, too.
I've never really particularly liked the look of the early Cayenne models. I've never hated them but I think this one in this spec looks really good. Like I'd really like to own one good.
I just sold my 06 Touareg and will always love the styling. It didn’t have an especially beautiful steering wheel, but I prefer it to the Porsche triangle steering wheel.

People complained the videos were too long, so this is what you have instead. Frankly it's better this way anyway -- now I get to give a good, full summary of the car instead of "Like every car in this class, practicality is a 7 out of 10" or whatever.
@@DougDeMuro I love your work and the channel, I have to say I agree with this commenter that I like the recap with the individual explanations of each number. It feels like a nicer conclusion to me.

Doug, there is minimal turbo lag in a 955/957 generation Cayenne (sounds like you need to drive one, you can visit me and review/drive mine!!!). This isnt late 80's early 90's turbo lag here (I have had many turbos over the years and still do). Maybe not like a 2022 turbo application, but you dont need to ring it out to 4000 rpm and then it smacks you in the back. I get the ~0.6-0.8 bar at ~ 2600 rpm. The relatively big engine displacement and not overly big turbos are the reasons. Peak torque is at 2250 rpm, so maybe even quicker spool up than I am noticing via the tac.

Let's say I need to use the cigarette lighter outlet or "automobile auxiliary power outlet" to plug up and recharge my cell phone while I am riding in the back seat of this Cayenne but where, oh where am I going to put the cigarette lighter while I am using the outlet? Maybe I use the storage compartment in the armrest or drop it into the footwell but then it will roll around making noise and be annoying. What should I do? FINALLY!! Doug did a review of the first gen cayenne. Not first design though, (955) this is a 957. Been wanting for him to do one of a first gen turbo
I found out the hard way the turn signal “feature” on my 997 when I couldn’t figure out why my lights wouldn’t turn off when pulling into my driveway. Had to do some googling
Dude I have the same 4 pedal setup in my 07 CTS-V I genuinely have 0 clue as to why they would swap it from a more convenient and conventional hand parking brake 😭
You see it in Dodge cars as well, particularly the Challenger. Get the Challenger with a manual transmission and you'll find the parking brake pedal right next to the clutch. Stupid design imo, and I think they do it for a mix of cost savings and retro purposes. These cars are designed with auto transmissions in mind, so manual transmissions are put in as an afterthought. A handbrake is much better to have than a foot brake but that's also my opinion.
Since the parking brake is higher and closer to the wall it really is not an issue...only to the kids who have never driven anything older than the year 2000 and think they might accidentally push it while driving.
I need to get Doug to review my Turbo S, lol. PDCC makes these just infinitely better handling- I had a GTS and it doesn’t even compare. The rest function is nice for keeping warm air on with engine off, the interior intrusion alarm defeat button on the B pillar, the ski bag option, the onboard air compressor, power seatbelts, the button that turns off the steering wheel lights.
Great points about the 2 buttons on the back side of the steering wheel turning off the steering wheel lights at night and the buttons on the driver's side B pillar. IIRC one was to turn off interior movement sensitivity while the alarm was on and the other was used when you were parking on a hill to disable tilting sensitivity for the alarm.
GTS had PDCC as an option. I waited to find a 6 speed with it after driving autos with and without. Definitely night and day. It's a bizarre feeling for something this big to not have body roll.
They are amazing man I had a Cayenne S from this time and man is the V8 so satisfying... also surpassed 250k miles and until now id say under $5-6k total in repairs. Nothing major until now the engine needs to be replaced so its at our shop until we see a very good deal because man I just love it and don't want to get rid of it even though I have newer vehicles its just so fun to hear the V8 in a Porsche
Wow, didn't even know you could get a V8 Cayenne with a manual. An SUV that would actually be fun'ish to drive. Usually I'd want nothing to do with SUV ownership, but if I could get one of these I'd probably take it.
Doug, you missed some nuggets. This is a Second Gen. The first gen was 995 and ended in the US in 2006 (the v8s were 4.5L). Gen 2 was the 997 which you are showing here with the 4.8L engine. From the right steering-wheel stalk. You can cycle through a few choices as you showed. If you go to the 'MAIN MENU', and hit the ENTER button on the bottom of the stalk, you can get to sub menus to set, tire size, clock set, clock 12/24h, MPG(reset), tire pressure, km/miles and maybe some others I might be forgetting. As @Jimmy Mentioned, there is a center sun visor above the mirror. I have 2 sun visors above the driver and passenger. The first can come down & has the mirror and can be swung off to the side. While that first visor is off to the side you can flip down the other visor down in front of the driver. One thing to note is I realize that not all cars may have the center visor, double visor, the fully integrated steel roll cage or rear heated seats that I have in my Turbo S example. Also as @Jimmy mentioned the tire inflation hoses under the back passenger seat connect to the suspension system under the front passenger seat allowing changes of air pressure in remote areas or just airing up a low tire. Porsche has so many variables for personalizing their Cayennes that I have read that there are over 2 Million choices for a new buyer to choose from! I'm sure the Porsche dealers try to group them into packages, but Porsche will build what the customer wants. That is a staggering number of choices and I would think a nightmare for production. All of the choices for each build are printed in the spare tire area along with the specific engine's horsepower as tested by Porsche. It's a fun list for any second owner (or potential buyer) to go through. All of the build codes can be looked up and easily deciphered. The only vehicle I would consider replacing my Turbo S with, would be a GTS manual.
For those wondering, this car ended up selling for $25,500 on Cars and Bids.
@JohnnyFD Thanks! That's what I was here for.

The 7 blank spaces near the climate control are blank because the original dealer didn't order the options that would have filled those buttons. Yes, there were even more options! (I used to work for Porsche)
thats for all cars, blanks are cheaper to make than new trim piece
I think even people who aren't into cars know why blank switches exist.
You'd think that Doug, someone that ALSO worked for Porsche, as far as I know, would be willing/able to research about it. It's really getting to a point it's making the videos less enjoyable, his decreased interest in researching options so he doesn't shoot from the hip in the videos.
Doug also used to work for Porsche too
What were the blanks supposed to be? I got an 04 turbo with the same blanks.
How reliable has it been with maintenance ?

The Cayenne and the Volvo XC90 were the best looking SUVs of their time, the first gens has aged very well.

@Doug Demuro: Thank you man, this brings back a lot of joyous reminiscence in my life.
80's Jeep CJ-7s also had four pedals. Not a problem. With the V8 and manual they were dangerous, and fun, as hell, but the pedals weren't a problem.

I have always been a pure manual enthusiast. To get a manual in an SUV is even more rare and special.
