This is the fourth in the series of Twilight Zone inspired Midnight Scenes games. As with the other games it's a standalone adventure (so it doesn't matter which order you play them in) but it does have some links to other games (The Nanny especially). I've added a playlist for the rest of the games at the end of the video if you'd like to check them out. :)
Wow, so like getting into the X of the Killer series late, this is the 4th one? :O I guess I missed out on the other three. o.O
Also, something about this kind of feels like I should have maybe seen this person's other works before, not necessarily the series, but maybe just the art. :p I guess it kind of reminds me of something like The Last Door, I think it was called... :? I think it was some old flash series I never got around to seeing the whole story of... I wonder if it ever finished or something, can't even remember what it was about. :p
this has convinced me that all games, regardless of genre or tone, should have an extended unskippable goose care section.
No doubt.
I need a pet goose man, those animals are so cute! Except for the teeth, that's the stuff of nightmares :S
This was so unexpected in a good way. I love this kind of horror.
Love the bonus in the credits ☺️
Love that intro to the video, lil guy wanted a mellow
I love how Tina turns out to be a guardian angel of sorts. I kinda wish she'd come out of the shadows now and again to try and regain some semblance of herself, kind of like a sitcom, or a slice of life. But that's just me coming up with silly shit.
For some things, there's no coming back.
Are you serious?! She killed Joe, they should throw her into a woodchipper!
This felt like a movie, the plot is so surprising and brilliant, I love it
Oh my god FINALLY! I remember when this first came out like several years ago, i didn't think we'd get any more midnight scenes games!!!!
Bro this guy's channel gives me literal chills he makes good quality content without even uttering a single word.....
Well..looks like that 'mother' can gradually assimilated with her host's
identity and memories. Do you remember Ms. marquez in The Nanny?
She was Oliver & Tina's nanny, and first host of the mother. That's why
mother was obsessed with two siblings so badly.
You're barking up the wrong tree Bobbert.
*I skimmed the whole video, and I am glad there is closure for the last Midnight Scenes game.
I love all these little intro and ending animation! What a way to start and even if they are just a few seconds, well.. animations is taking so much time and effort >.< . Nice job !
Wow

So this game's story ties in with The Nanny chapter. It didn't dawn on me 'til I saw that familiar scene with the babysitter and the 2 kids camping in the forest. I need to rewatch that chapter.
24:41 the goose passing the sus ravens in its massive harness made the goose look like it's in the witness protection program
I have a full fledged theory on what happened in the Nanny episode if anyone would like to hear it.
I was so happy when I saw the notification for this game! Love the series
Hi! Sure, would love to hear your theory!
Tell me, please
It’s kinda long but here it is.
Here's my theory: From the dog tags, we see the dad served in the military. I believe he met the OG nanny during his service because it would explain why the nanny had an eye patch from a possible service injury. Maybe they had a friendship, maybe they had something more. Who knows, all I can surmise is that they must've known each other way back when. She probably developed feelings for him, and I believe he did too, but couldn't be with her for whatever reason. Years pass by, he gets married, she doesn't find anyone else, and then he has kids. She could've lived in that neighborhood and moved there or vice versa, but somehow she ends up being the nanny to those kids. Maybe the parents are busy and they need someone to watch them. She volunteers in order to get closer to the dad and to possibly know the kids that could've been hers.
Time goes by, enough so that Oliver recognizes her as the nanny. The parents may have been gone for so long that the kids felt neglected and the nanny's heart broke for them because they were living without their parents. I think she came to see them as her own children especially since they would have if the dad had married her instead. From the condoms and the lipstick mark on the photo, I'll say the dad and the nanny had an affair. Old feelings blossoming and all that. My guess is that the mom found out and was furious. I think the mom came from a high society based on the house, her traveling profitable career, the upscale neighborhood they're in, and the funds to afford a basically full-time caregiver. If her husband divorced her for a "lowly" nanny, it would be a disgrace to her and her family and she would have to give of her fortune to another family from alimony. So, the mom lured the nanny to that rock in the forest, shot her in the head and buried her. She would have access to a gun and maybe training from her husband due to his military background, The closeup we get of the drawing kinda looks like a shot to the head. That's why the mom wouldn't let Oliver play that far into the forest and that's also why we see the squirrel munching on a finger part.
The ancient magic and spirituality from the Native American tribes living in that area may have given the nanny's vengeful spirit a new vitality, enough to influence the environment, invade dreams, cast subliminal messaging, and then come into the real world.
Her spirit became engraved upon the rock, symbolizing her attachment to the area and her unfinished business. Her rage from the murder, sadness at a forbidden love, and maternal yearning drove her to pursue the kids and bring them with her into the afterlife. And that's how the kids ended up in the drawing because they are now bonded to her now and forever
@@paladin2894 yes, also spirit nanny killed the neglectful alcoholic mother of the neighbour's kid. She was hiding her alcoholism from her kid because he referred to wine as "mommy juice" if I remember correctly. The kid also normalized her bouts of alcoholic passouts as private bath time or whatever.
Art direction is amazing!
I was expecting more of a "branching" storyline :D hehe I really liked this one.
"You said it was a ghost story: it isn't. It's a love story."
Sorry not sorry, it really fit too well.
Not for the one's who died 🤣
Imagine being treated for mental health and the bedroom you sleep in has voices.
Wow , it was awesome ! Like watching a good movie .
And that pixel art ! Marvelous .
not a full minute in, but i would like to say i appreciate how these sort of games show such a high quality to its content. like, its pixel art, its not voxels, its not polygons, its pixels. and its relatively monochrome at that, like not straight monochrome, i think its a muted filter is the term? and yet, you know exactly what you are looking at, sure, its not realistically detailed. it also doesn't need to be, these games send shivers down my spine because i can easily identify, or perhaps the exact opposite, certain things are very specifically unidentifiable, and that is backed by a good mood setting created by great sound design. its not low quality, its just not propping itself up with thousands of polygons like some games might be doing. story? some horror games certainly have them, and they remain short, they remain vague. they let you fill in the details. because honestly? when it comes to horror, few things surpass our own imagination. we fear the unknown, its why for so long the dark was terrifying, and some people laugh at that and say, "i'm an adult, i'm not afraid of the dark" but i wonder, have you truly experienced the dark? a darkness without light pollution? a darkness that even with a backdrop of the galaxy above, you can't see your surroundings because of a lack of moonlight. you know what should be around you. but you become afraid, of injury, and outside, you hear many noises, and even if you know what they are, your mind toys with you, because you simply don't know, and this is used to great effect in horror games. why create canon when the player can do it for you? let them scare themselves. let them do the hard work. just lead them down the path you want, and when it ends, watch as they find the place you wanted them to.
took me a while to finish, i got hungry, took a nap, stuff like that. can i just say, that was a huge ass screw. what the fuck was that panel to require a screw that thick, that long, and that structurally supporting? it replaced the iron axle on a wheelbarrow for god sakes.
being totally honest, i kinda expected a bit worse from "the horrible things that intruder did" sure, its bad, but like... immediate violence isn't the worst possible thing. no, you should be far more afraid of deranged but sapient violence. its violence that has a plan, a goal, it won't just wound you once, it will bring death by a thousand cuts, a thousand cuts to all the most important and most fragile bits of your psyche, and physique. targeted violence by a sapient mind is what is truly horrifying.
i will point out a bit of pedantry, whenever they time skipped, they used the large view of the place, right? after joe... and more accurately oliver the night after, they didn't change the tree, despite the tree having changed. just a small thing i noticed. kinda like how no one apparently seemed to care that the main doors were rooted shut. like yeah, they aren't used often, but they were stilled sealed by roots.
noticed the death flag on ol' joe too. the moment they said "he's gonna retire soon" i went, ahhhh shit. also, this made use of a great narrative concept, the flash back, a lot of the story was buildup to the end, but it was all flashbacks, which, if you consider it logically, means you can't die. its not possible to tell a true story where you die before reaching the point of telling the flashbacks. which is why it becomes so much scarier when that moment passes. you have caught up to real time, and the story is being told as you receive it, in some narratives it outright means bad things are about to go down, but in others, it just means the training wheels have been removed. death is a consequence now. and it felt like this game used the latter more than the former. even if both ended up being potentially true.
this dev is a genius. all of the midnight scenes games have been so good. love them.
Oliver still had some story to tell & you know what? It was a good one, one worth telling.
This is so good!!!!
This is much more like a movie than a game - but a great movie, of course. Thankfully it doesn't boil down to straight carnage show.
Random thoughts: Why do I get the feeling Elijah is the bottom in the relationship. Grace as a character kinda went nowhere. It's extremely creepy to have your dead spirit tree beast sister watching you cuddle with some random dude or following you everywhere for that matter . I'm watching in these all now thanks to seeing the A Safe Place upload. Appreciate ya as always.
That was the funniest intro yet.
Masterpiece
*spoiler*
Aww the ending and the credits are somewhat cute 🥰 especially with the pictures showing "Tina's" shadowy figure XD
I got some "Five Days A Stranger" vibes from this, and that's good.
Really good story, pretty good music. The sound effects though were either amazing (walking with bare feet) or goofy (that "Wow!).
It didn't feel like I'd spent over an hour watching, and that's a credit to the game for sure.
Plus who doesn't love a goose walking segment?
Omg, you know the Chzo Mythos?
Happy to hear, this game series deserves a lot of love and attention.
such an amazing game!
Damn, this was such a good story!
Such a cute marshmallow monster
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! NOT MS MURPHEY! SHE WAS THE BEST CHARACTER IN THE GAAAME X*
It took a few games, but he finally gets eaten, but never experiences true deletion.
Yum yum yum yum yum! Best part of the game)
I appreciate you making the video but I think I will buy the game to play before watching. The midnight scenes is one of my must buy game series
"I took my job very seriously and praised the place every chance I got"
ABG: *five seconds later* "this place stinks!"
Haha, yeah I love that never tells the shrink the whole truth. He also leaves out a lot of the freakier stuff that happens later on - like on the night when Elijah says he just stayed in his bed all night writing!
Sorry, just realised my comment was a spoiler and you're still watching the vid. Have edited it to remove the spoiler. :)
@@AlphaBetaGamer Who would've thought that a horror protagonist with the most common sense would be the introverted "not my circus, not my monkeys" protagonist. Curiousity kills the cat, but healthy apathy lets it live another day.
@@AlphaBetaGamer I don't mind spoilers that much. I have ADHD so I'm running the risk of abandoning media when they don't get interesting soon enough. Even if I know something will happen, I still have to see HOW it exactly happened.
And let's not kid ourselves. This is horror. I knew something will happen to the saw guy or the animal the minute they were introduced and the story started to put emphasis on them. I am a writer so I look out for Checkhov's guns.
Being able to predict story beats like closing doors or twists takes away from the surprise effect of twists. What I look for in turn is how original or well foreshadowed they were. I can still enjoy the emotional impact of dark twists, time after time without the shock and surprise like Aerith's or Thorin Oakenshield's death.
Again, it's horror so you expect things to go south. P.ants taking revenge for being cut up is not exactly a new trope either.
Anyway, no harm done. Thanks for the replies. Always a pleasure to read a chat with you.
2:40 dear god that fricken "dodido dido didooo~" sound bit, I've heard it somewhere before but I have no idea where and for some reason it's bugging the hell out of me XD!!!!!!!!
AWW the CREDITS
Moving story with excellent execution. Indie devs really apply creativity into games where many triple A game devs don't...
I dont remember much about all the games but its kind of like an infection what Tina has i guess, the dark influence kept her "alive"?
Gotta check up theories and folkloric references and re-watch te first part
What was left of the ambient magic/spirits of the woods probably jumped to Tina when she died, while the Mother was in the process of dying.
Poor Bobbert, his eternally cooking marshmallow was about to cook to perfection, only for StendoNeck Dude™ stole it.
Is this origin lore of why Bobbert shoot every single Demon Dude™ he ever met?
Haha, yeah they're all after my marshmallows!
30:41 Yes, fairly sure that is ILLEGAL.
Lorewise It's basically like "Mama" film that came out in 2013.
I love the new li'l mallow dude
35:00 - Hmm... I could have sworn I heard this music from another indie game before... :?
👏👏👍
Gotdamn he stole your marshmellow.
was olli a stand user by any chanse?
This is a masterpiece. Stephen King himself would be proud of it
1. VERY stylish. 2. Elijah was a bit thick, not getting who Tina was, but at least he looks nice ^^
This is the second game, if you don’t know who Tina is you’ll have to watch vids of the first game
39:07 (saving my spot)
Abg, haven't u play chilla art's Karaoke yet? i'm waiting hahaha
i love you mrs murphy
46:33 I heard hurt feelings inevitably lead to death, because you can't put bandages on feelings. Inner wounds are quite draining.
I'm curious is there a point to the choices?
Swamp Thing meet Let The Right One In😏
Damn, this was pretty good, or least of all not half bad. :p
Some of those sound effects though, least of all the food one, was so cheesy and stupid though, why was that in the game...? XD "Yum yum yum YUM!". :p
Sigh... I'm not sure what to make of the "Gay Hate Crimes" part of the game either, but alright I guess. :p
So... I'm wondering if Elijah was just the main character for this one and it's usually Oliver whose the main character for this series or something... :? I guess I should look into the others soon too. :p
The story is very good, could be a great coming of age horror movie, the art is amazing. I have a couple of nitpicks: the meme sound effects in some scenes ruin the immersion for me, like the "yummy yummy" when you get food and such. The second one, and it's a bit of pet peeve of mine, is it really a game? You hardly make any choices and interact only very little with the world. It's more of an interactive movie, you just advance the story which is on rails at all times. The story is good so it doesn't matter too much, still,i would have liked more choice or interaction. Like maybe saving Joe ?
End of Chapter 4
The Next one is Midnight Scenes Chapter 5: A Safe Place.
Oh my god, thanks @Alpha Beta Gamer, that's was a good story I have ever seen, I really enjoy that story, I hope I can see your video like this, have a story like this
Interesting story though I can’t help but feel Elijah sticks out as an anomaly compared to the other patients as to why he’s at the centre in the first place. I mean there’s Oliver: Been trapped in the woods for ten years and is left there for rehab, Aidan: Attacked a couple to the extent of taking one of their eyes out (oh just realised the karma of that last scene he appears in) as part of a hate crime and is dumped there because his father is running for some position, Theo: Psycho at 9 and even Eric suggests his home environment isn’t great with the mention of his brother breaking his nose while for Elijah it’s…panic attacks and not even excessive ones it seems as they only trigger after something like the shower scare or the storm.
To be fair I did for a second think with the mention at the start of ‘dark secrets’, the way he acts deadpan and uninterested in everything at the start, being compared to Stephen King of all people, the bullies suggesting he was gay, the mention he only showers when he can be alone at night and is allowed to and the therapist in particular asking about his interest in other people and his views on their interest in him was all leading up to some kind of dark twist that Elijah had some sort of compulsive obsession disorder or psychological thing about biology that lead to something negative happening that landed him in the centre in the first place and was going to have some bearing on the story in the final act. But nope he’s just gay and somehow everyone just randomly knew about it before he arrived because the main bully character already knew and told them somehow. Pretty weak to honest.
I mean not every protagonist is going to have a dark secret
Fun fact: Elijah's "treatment" towards the end mirrors actual attempts at conversion therapy, both historical and modern (though less common nowadays for obvious reasons)
Not everyone has to have a crazy backstory.
It may be 'weak' but it's also something that is historically accurate for the time period this was set in.
It makes perfect sense for the setting. Tired of the “secret scary” protag trope anyway. Its in 90% of pixel horror.
1:17:34 DEAD END
It has a good story but the nanny was scarier
Poor babysitter, she's not survived :(
This reminds me of Stranger Things kinda
I am a bit confused by the end credit bit tho- did those two end up getting married or something? Cause the confusing bit for me is how the heck they "had" a kid in the first place (unless its going hard on the realism of what took place and whatnot....)
I mean there's the option of adopting y'know.
@@niqui0990 yeah but its kinda hard to tell if that's whats happening with Grace there and all XP
@@killeing In the credits, she was called "Nanny Grace"
Somewhat...wholesome I suppose? Not too scary to me.
You wrote this comment less than 10 minutes after this 1 hour 20 minute video went up. I seriously doubt whether you have any idea if it's scary or not.
Edit: Yup, you're full of it. This is easily the scariest and goriest Midnight Scenes game yet.
@@MoogMonster554 no it is not. Basically the entity are either a possessive tree mother or an overprotective ghoul-like creature for a sister of that 1 fella. The other Midnight Scene is much disturbing, like the one with a creepy nanny (forgot the name) that managed to TAKE 2 KIDS with her!!

As of when I am writing this comment, nobody has completed this video.
That's because i posted this comment when the video was a minute or two old.
18:29 I felt the welcome was very... lengthy, and warm, and it felt so pure like the colour white. Everyone e jaculated with joy. I felt we will soon come to a mutual understanding and stick to each other through thick and thin. Their friendly words penetrated through the barriers we set up around ourselves and touched us right to the core. I thought it would be worse, so the warm welcome was an unforeskin circumcistance.
Eric is a real bad individual, the worst of them all
these puns were bad. all bark and no bytes. should really branch out, root out a few more puns, you know? leaf these old ones in the composter.
I have to wonder why the author felt dropping f-bombs every few minutes would add to the game.
teenagers do say fuck a lot. So realism I guess? haha?
Mrs. Murphy's death was completely unnecessary, added nothing to the story.
3/10
Man, I feel really torn on this game...like, as a queer person, it's nice to see a game feat. casual queer rep, where the MC being gay isn't a big part of the plot, and hey! A Horror game with no "Bury Your Gays"?? That's nice, love to see it!
However, the creative decisions wrt to Eric, the only gay character of color...Like, not only does he basically get shoved into the "Black Best Friend" trope, I heavily side-eye the creators' decision to have the sole black, gay kid in the story team up with Neo-Nazis to get back at the guy he had a crush on. Like, it's a very anti-black writing decision on the creators' part.
I don't know if the creators' have any intention of continuing the "Midnight Scenes" series, but I almost kinda wish they'd make a game where Eric is the MC, like maybe a sequel set ten years after this game, where we learn about where he ended up after the events at the clinic.
01:12:06 - nice "alt right" representation, a bald white guy and a blonde one, good that the developer is not biased in any cringy way XD
Yeah some of the whole romance bit did get a bit weird

реально.
I don't mind a gay story, but the hamfisted "forcing their life ways into our institutions" was a little absurd. Might as well have made them goose stepping around. Even had a goose in the game ready to go.
I think it's pretty disappointing, problematic and racist, but not surprising, that the only Black LGBT Person of Color character that matters, Eric, is romantically disadvantaged so the white male protagonist can get with the brooding, mysterious new boy who is also a white male. I hope the people praising this game for it's LGBTQUIAP+* representation also acknowledge that it used two stale tropes for the price of one. A Black best friend? More like Black best friendzone.
Oh dear white boy SJW, you're way off the mark here. You think any form of media with a black best friend is racist? Get a grip. If this is your idea of standing up for Black rights then I'll kindly ask you to never bother again. We don't need your kind of "help".
it’s also pretty wild they had him team up with two racists, one of whom literally violently assaulted a black couple
@@garfield336
Yeah Eric gave in to his internalized homophobia for the the white male bully to temporarily stop being racist to him as though they teamed up to take on a greater evil. 😣
@@Nebulous_Neuhaus You think Black people have never teamed up with violent racists??? There are plenty in the Proud Boys (such as Enrique Tarrio).
Also, Eric was hardly teaming up in the first place. He told the bullies because he wanted something. He wanted Elijah to hurt. Love makes people do terrible things and you can tell that he regretted it.
You're pushing your ridiculous SJW agenda and seeing racist issues in a game where there are none. Elija's two best friends are black people. So what if he fancies a white boy??? Most white people are attracted to white people and most black people are attracted to black people. That's not racist. That's just a fact. It's realistic storytelling.
And you think that because this game doesn't have a black and a white couple falling in love then it's racist??? Seriously??? So every single movie, game, TV show and book where a black guy and white guy don't fall in love is now racist???
The only racism on show here is your own. You're the one seeing color as an issue when there is none. You're pushing your own SJW agenda without actually giving a crap about black people.
It's white boys like you that are detrimental to the cause. You just stoke up anger over inconsequential nonsense so real issues get overlooked. Stay in your lane.
