Please appreciate these moments with your St. Bernards. My big girl passed away when she was 10 and I was 16. I grew up with her and many happy childhood memories are associated with her. I remember little kids shouting "Look, Beethoven!" all the time they saw my dog - they loved her almost as much as I do. Now I'm 26. Pain and sorrow are still with me, deep down in my soul. But I'm happy that she was part of my life.
I am so sorry about the loss of your sweet floofball. We had a Great Pyrenees; he was with us for 9 years. It absolutely crushed me; I lost him 2 weeks before my 16th birthday. The loss of a furbaby sucks. 😞
Well that's the thing about Big Breed Dogs like St. Bernard's they don't last long. But that's what makes them so valuable. You truly have to savor every second you spend with your dog because life is too short.
Aww. RIP. Why not plant some lovely, native, wildlife-friendly plants, flowers and trees in her memory? Please also remember the other equally important and sentient beings who are in need and go vegan...
EXACTLY!! This husband, father that’s a perfectionist with a high end business has it hard. Wants to keep everything neat and clean and Beethoven don’t let cleanliness happen
I kind of felt for George when I first saw this when very young. Took me a while to clue into the fact he was supposed to be a considered a tightwad who needed to learn to loosen up.
Well, part of it is he DID leave Beethoven's training to the kids. If the adults in the house don't have the time to do the research and training, they should hire a professional for a potentially destructive dog like a St. Bernard.
Yeah I was about 6 when it came out and continued to rewatch it until I was 9. I can’t believe it’s been 30 yrs 😆 That was a great family movie at the time. Much like Vacation was for the 80’s kids.
Hope Charles says hi to Dean Jones who played the evil veterinarian in this movie, who passed in 2014. Both St. Bernard's that played Beethoven in the first ans second movies are now dead. "Cujo" played Beethoven in the 2nd Beethoven movie.
2:48-2:49: "YOU!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣, Charles's way of saying that gets me laughing each time 🤣🤣🤣🤣. RIP, Mr Grodin (1935-2021). Thanks for the childhood laughs as George in the first two Beethoven movies (1992-1993).
When Emily, Ted, and Ryce took Beethoven trick-or-treating with them, I bet he got a lot of attention, like “Well, hello.”, “Hey, doggie.”, “Aren’t you a sweetie?”, “Want a treat? Not candy, obviously.”
What a wonderful loving family Beethoven found. They had so many great memories with him when he was he growing up in the Neuton's house. He loves them all including George. George is his human dad after all. Haha!!
I have a bull terrier called Symphony and he was a bugger for being stubborn but loveable as a puppy till he mellowed at 2 and half years old. Now he’s 4 and super sweetheart.
I'm sorry, but even when I first watched this movie I was so disgusted by the fact that he kept his mouth open when Beethoven was shaking. Like, bro, I would have dive-bombed the moment that dog stood up.
I have a Saint Bernard and they are little devils till about 2 1/2 years. Picture a 100-200lb toddler who KNOWS they’re big and thus can cause a scene with little effort. Still with the right training things will go a lot smoother. Though still expect the occasional temper tantrum.
I've always thought about getting a saint Bernard but I have enough chaos in my life with the Chihuahua I do not want to imagine something that can actually drag me down the street hell even cujo can pull me and he's only 8 lb
The kids aren't really responsible which is understandable it's most likely George who does most of the work taking care of him. Even in the clip he cleans up after him, gives him his house in the backyard, walks him in the rain and he is the one pulling him on the bike. George doesn't even hate Beethoven he just understands the responsibility of taking care of a pet and would just rather Beethoven be calmer
A little funny anecdote from my youth; I went to the local movie rental store for the first time alone, and I kindly brought the VHS case of this movie to the counter and the clerk put the actual VHS tape into it, and handed it down to the two hands stretching up above the desk. On my way home I crossed the street to purchase some candies for the spare change. Back home I had to fast rewind the movie of course, this is where I should have paid more attention to what was going on up on the TV, but I didn't, all I had my eyes on was the candy and the sugary drink I had on the living room table. After pressing play I think it must've taken me some 40-50 minutes into the movie to realize that the clerk put the wrong tape into the case. What I had been watching was JAWS, or JAWS 2, I cannot remember. But I remember being VERY confused about when the actual dog is supposed to show up. I wasn't particularly scared, but I experienced this sensation of peeking into the adults world. From then on I knew that there are so many things I have yet to experience when I grow up, but for now - maybe I will do just fine with Beethoven, or Mickey mouse..
The reason the first two movies were so successful was because they were just as much about the family as Beethoven himself, especially the dad, George, who goes from a controlling and distant parental figure to a more grounded, emotionally open father who appreciates his family. I love these movies.
Please don't get me wrong when I say this, but the dog was not the protagonist, even though the title said his name. The protagonist was really George.
