Daniel Day-Lewis being remembered for Their Will Be Blood, Christian Bale for American Psycho, Christoph Waltz for Inglorious Basterds... actors that have transcended the artform and had performances that will be studied for the rest of time, and then imagine you're trying to leave the same legacy and are best remembered for playing a goofy yet loveable cartoon dad. Instead of being known for playing Tyler Durden you're remembered as Peter Griffen. And yes I know The Big Lebowski is a masterpiece but you would be shocked at the amount of people that known him for this role instead because theyve never seen TBL. Walter was his best role but I'd argue this is the one he's known for by the larger audience of casual movie fans. Just my worthless 2c

This movie is mesmerizing, the scenarios and characterization are so faithful to the original cartoon, it pops out of the screen and feels like a real life Flintstones universe... plus John Goodman and Rick Moranis nailed Fred and Barney! Even the soundtrack is so charismatic, I bought the CD because of The B-52s (as The BC-52s), "Weird Al" Yankovic, Green Jelly...
I think Rick Moranis did well playing Barney, but I didn't really care for how Barney was written. Barney in cartoon was sassy and quick witted when it came to arguments and fun stuff, but dude was a complete moron in common sense often relying on Fred to know things. In this Fred is just dumb without his buddy being equally dumb with him.
The best part is that Hannah-Barbera themselves worked on the movie too. Goes to show that if you want a live action movie based on a cartoon done right, you gotta do it with the creator’s help 😊

I appreciate how the spoken lines and the camera movement are both half as fast as most movies. It gives kids time to process what's happening in the story, and the adults enough time to see all the easter eggs in the props and scenery.

I saw this movie live in drive-in in 1994, as a little 5-year-old boy with my mom. To call it a phenomenon was an understatement. I still remember the McDonalds Happy Meal toys - little cars with houses, to collect the entire village of Bedrock. They did an amazing job with this movie!

My daughter and I watch this movie a few times a year. I’m so glad she liked it because I loved it when I was her age.

I didn't appreciate how good this movie was when I watched it as a kid. Will watch it again, it looks amazing!
I hate being a downer but look at what's been taken from us. Even in the 90s the concept of a "lowly" stone pit worker was able to support a family and own a nice home, all on one income.
People with low incomes have never ever lived in houses like that.

The source material is early 60s, so Pebbles and Bam Bam would be boomers. If you look to the 90s for contemporary material, John Goodman was also starring in Roseanne at this time, which is already exploring the illusion of the American dream

Its hilarious how people from Jurassic Park went on to work on this. We went from realism and scientific accuracy to making a cartoon. Its awesome.
Actually, JP was not scientifically accurate since it’s absolutely impossible to successfully recreate a dinosaur’s DNA after millions of years since DNA degrades itself throughout time. Even now it’s extremely difficult to bring Mammoths back since the genes found were already decomposed, and they were extinguished only five thousand years ago… but whatever…
I love the live action flinstone movies. The props and settings are just chef's kiss.

This is one of the movies I am excited to watch with my future kids. Loved it growing up and teaches you honestly to look out for sleeze balls like their boss was

Well, Fred didn't wanna fire Barney, but he was pressured into it! Also, if Barney hadn't done the switch and the roles were reversed, Barney would have quit rather than fire Fred!
I don’t know about that. If Barney didn’t have bam bam maybe but he was a new father and needed to support his son and wife. Most likely he would have resolved to help fred just like how in the movie fred and Wilma took in the rubbles Who knows the money may have corrupted him too. Wilma was reasonably intelligent and the money went to her head too.
I saw this movie live in drive-in in 1994, as a little 5-year-old boy with my mom. To call it a phenomenon was an understatement. I still remember the McDonalds Happy Meal toys - little cars with houses, to collect the entire village of Bedrock. They did an amazing job with this movie!
And Lion King’s phenomenon was in 2003 and still going strong

Happy 30th anniversary, _The Flintstones._ It was released in theaters on May 27, 1994. Side note: The final episode of _The Arsenio Hall Show_ aired on TV the same day _The Flintstones_ was released in theaters. Go figure. The final episode of said show is on UA-cam. It's a classic. Check it out.

I was 8 when this movie came out and I watched it at least 20 times when it was out on VHS. Truly the best times as a kid.

7:30 I'm pretty sure that dinosaur tail was visible in the VHS version.
may have been a fullscreen open matte version to avoid pan and scan, some films did that
vhs was 4:3 and this is 16:9 so they cut bottom and top to make this panoramic
