The only reason reading the minute graduation on the chronograph subdial would be difficult is if you're not good at telling time... The reason Omega did that, aside from being able to add the date, is that the chronograph timing reads just like you would read the time. As an owner of both watches, for me, it's far easier to read the 57 than the speedmaster chronograph timing.
Thank you! Very helpful side-by-side comparison! I have the new 3861 Moonwatch that I got last year but am thinking about upgrading to the blue ‘57. I’m torn because I think the blue ‘57 is a better daily watch for me because I love blue and I need a date on my watches. But I’m also a space nerd so I also like the fact that I have the actual Moonwatch with hesalite. Tough decision!
Sold my Speedy a while back and now recently picked up an IWC Mark xvi...11mm tall. 39mm case... beautiful. I really wish Omega managed to make thinner watches, but still love their design language... personally, for me, anything over 12mm thick is getting a little too tall
@@JustBlueFish that's a shame. They're very good quality and definitely not a hyped brand you ..won't see many people wearing one, which I like. More exclusive .... and more affordable on used market than many hype brands
Two completely different watches. Moonwatch has this contemporary and toolwatch vibe while the '57 remains flashy and retro-looking. On small wrists the '57 looks too big as it doesn't have curved lugs and it doesn't hug the wrist like the new Moonwatch does (please remember that the latest edition of the Moonwatch is WAY more compact than its predecessor). I like both, but the Moonwatch is for me.
Great video! Thanks for reviewing this watch. I have been eyeing the Speedy '57 for a few years now. The prior model, I believe, is a real modern taken on it, while this one feels like they are pulling from the heritage. I feel like the '57 models going out are gonna be great deals. No one has really cared for them, but they pretty great watches, especially if their prices drop significantly. I like what they are doing here as well. I believe it is a better path for this model line of Speedmaster, somewhat like what the Seamaster 300 is to the Seamaster line. The watch is much prettier and closer to a luxury product instead of one that's trying to show off it's specifications (which I felt the last Speedmaster '57 was doing). I will be going to try one in store later this week so excited to see the differences between this and my speedmaster and the old speedmaster '57.
Never liked the speedmaster but the 57 is the one that’s finally got me interested. However it’s price is ridiculous. Nearly 10k. Prices have gone insane this post Covid time and Omega is notorious for their price increase.
GREAT video. The finishing on that movement is A+. That 50 meters of WR is irritating though, and the AR on the crystal is ripe for scratches... They seriously couldn’t come up with 100m so you can swim with this?
@@bikeman123 The service cost was the main reason I did not get Speedmaster reduced and this goes back a few years ago when they were much cheaper to buy, but one of the sellers on eBay had one for sale and showed a receipt of 1100.00 US dollars for overhaul service. I do not have any mechanical chronograph watches, anything based on the VJ 7500 or something like that is way too thick. Seems most mechanical chrono watches are thick. You are right the Speedmaster reduced is too thick for me as well. Which is why I was saying a newer thinner movement in like a 39 or 40 mm in diameter.
Omg another little brother look alike! Tudor is like a little brother with an identity crisis.. wanting to look like older brother rolex but always 1 or 2 things off.
Coming from a 3861 Moonwatch to the '57, I feel the '57 is in another league quality wise/ Better movement, braclet and finishing. The Sub dial at 3 is harder to read but isn't terrible, plus I love having a date window on my watches. Highly recommended!
I find that even though the case of the 3861 Moonwatch is 42mm, having the lug to lug at 47 makes it wear smaller than this one. The '57 is nice though, nice review.
@@Sexiestmanalive01 Well, first looks are subjective. Second, I have a 7.25 wrist, so hardly a small wrist. I can wear both without issue. He said that this '57 watch wears smaller than the Moonwatch, which I found weird because it has is 49mm lug to lug as opposed to the Moonwatch that has a 47mm lug to lug. I've worn both, and I've found the Moonwatch wears smaller. Then again, it sounds like he was referencing an old Moonwatch (which is still only 47.2 lug to lug), not the current one. He was showing a current one, though.
@@Sexiestmanalive01 hahaha c'mon man! Don't say that! Am happy enough Omega finally made the 3861 I can finally pull off the speedmaster professional I always wanted! You lucky you can wear both 57 and 3861! And it's not just the size, performance counts as well.😆 Regards
This is the classic vintage bracelet with the polished outer links. This is why the did it this way, instead of polishing everything. This isnt a Tudor, or your classic diver. It's a reissue of the vintage SM.
I was convinced I was going to buy one of these but one thing is giving me pause- the lack of quickset date on this movement could be annoying in a manual wind piece. Yes I realize it has jumping hours "GMT style", but if the date is more than say a few days off, I'm imagining myself while setting it cycling the date wheel many times. I'm totally cool with manual wind- just wish they would have left the date off completely.
Looks neat, for sure. But tbh a moonwatch is a moonwatch, it will always have that historical space aspect that no other sportswatch can match up to... TBH I wonder if Omega will be onboard the upcoming Artemis flights that are about to start up... It's basically Omega's chance to either get another moonwatch or to lose the claim for good.
I prefer the 3 registers to the 2. It's easier to read. I'm 57 and in my mid 40's I lost the ability to see small text which I hear from a lot of people. Guy, I did not hear a price for this watch, or is it not yet determined? Thank you.
A good review Guy. Personally I prefer my old 1863 Speedy, a classic in my humble opinion but I do like the '57'. It looks like it's a manual wind version of the 9900 used in the Seamaster chronograph. The addition of the date at 6 is OK but I'm happy with the no date version as used in the Chronoscope. One for me to have a look at at the AD at some point. The bracelet look interesting.
For $8600 bucks they should offer customized lume and polishing options when I order one LOL Omega's overpricing aside, I think it is a nice design and I like the old school lume look personally, enjoyed the review thanks for making it!
@@abhi5a not really they need to raise prices otherwise they become oris price range. All brands creeping up in prices. It's very good ppl should get used to Omega becoming more expensive.
Good balanced review but feel it’s tiresome that Omega keeps making so many versions of the same watches. Still waiting to see one in the metal and hope we see greater stability in the design department moving forward. BTW, liked your shark shirt…made me LOL!
Never liked the moonwatch….my first watch was a fossil and it looked exactly like the speedy so I could never disassociate the two. Now this looks incredible and distinct. My current watch is the omega Seamaster small seconds
I hate the cutout dial for the hour markers. The other colours have more traditional dials and are much more attractive. A 12 hour chronograph is overkill.
The triology made more sence as updated vintage. this one doesn't have crown guard, yet decide to modernize the dial. I'm confused by the design. If it's modernized ver, I prefer to have crown guard, if it's vintage then I prefer the dial to be closer to vintage. so this one feels like Indian inspired Katsu Curry

What a beautiful movement and back sapphire crystal! Would love if Omega made this with white markers instead of the faux patina. Nice video Guy!
The dial is so gorgeous that I can overlook everything else. Holy crap.

Ya 100m would be nice, for those just in case moments if nothing else.
@@JustBlueFish yes, I am wondering if it’s just really damn hard to make a chronograph 100m+ because of the pushers.
Can you swim 50 meters deep?
The brown lume instead of white makes this watch a good pairing for a brown suit.
I wish Omega would remake the Speedmaster reduced but with a better bracelet and movement.
They do in the Speedmaster 38 but unfortunately it's about an inch thick
Good god no. I have a Tag with the piggy back chrono like the reduced and its expensive to service the 2 movements, and way too thick. Horrible watch.

Frankly speaking the sandwich dial isn't perfected on that Omega, the cutting @ the hour marks looks poorly cut and the space is very high.
