Dave, you always offer great insight into stage lighting and even someone like myself who has been to school for stage lighting I always learn something new from you. Well done and thank you!
2 brands of moving lights i have had many issues with and would not recommend are 1. Omarte - build and quality control is not consistent. I have had led die after unboxing, zoom / focus stops at different ranges, faulty dmx chips, prism does not function correctly (flimsy arm) 2. Artfox, we had a client purchase some of their beams and spot fixtures, trying to deal with their warranty etc... was beyond help. Brands we strictly use now are - Robe, Martin, Ayrton, Clay Paky and if on budget Chauvet DJ or Favolite
Great simple overview, top man. The local venue I light unfortunately has no overhead height at all so I have to hang from the sides and the front of house. This does present issues due to the low height so the washes facing the bands have to angle down to avoid blinding the artist, and then the side washes have to fill in. Moving heads on the side racks and the floor add the effects. The last couple of gig received great feedback so I am pleased. I am new to the game but defo getting there with your help.
i often use spots for lighting up people as a key or front light. with a mac viper performance or robe lights that has varible cto and lot other functions its even beter then a washlight
Thanks for all these great videos! I’ve learned so much from you! We are using LightKey at church and just starting our lighting journey - what would you recommend for a decent front light and do you recommend LED lights for front lights?
Hi Adrian - send us an email at gear@learnstagelighting.com . We've love to see some pictures of your space and we'll ask for some measurements. We have a few favorite fixtures, but sometimes we go outside of those as well, as we always recommend what is best for our customer, not what gives us the highest profit! Send us an email - we love to help! gear@learnstagelighting.com
I am starting a band that will start out playing small clubs. I want to seperate us from other bands by having some moving lights and want to add dramatics to our show. We dont have any lights now. We will have to work on a budget. Also how can this work NOT hiring a light guy (automate)? You need to do some on site, with a band in small-med size clubs. Its visually better for most to see the actual stage application.
Hi dave, I am really passionate about lighting stuff but I don't know where to start learning from scratch, Can't find a place to work as intern. Can you please advice me how/where I can start? Thanks 😊
Hey @kinnan670 , The best way to become a intern would be to approach a local rental company or church and to start from there. You can also look at signing up for LearnStageLightingLabs.com , where we have beginner to advanced training and we'll be able to get you up to speed quick!
It's not great. They're going to be low-quality, loud, and unreliable over the long haul. That's been well-proven, but if you need something cheap and it's okay if it doesn't work well or last long, they can work.
Head to our website: www.learnstagelightinggear.com , and feel free to add items to your cart and request a quote! Or email us at gear@learnstagelighting.com and we can help you determine what you'd need. (If you're in the US) There are 2 reasons why we can't furnish prices in videos. The first is that over time, prices will go up on all fixtures. It's life, and this video will be around years into the future and we want to keep it relevant. The second is that the correct fixture for YOU may or may not be what I've shown here. So, if you're in the US, reach out for a quote - you'll be glad you did!

This is a video wall
Very Thank U Dave, my i ask U some question? Can i Buy some Onyx Products but can it be ship to Indonesia on my Country? Thank U🙏😇
Unfortunately not, as you would not have a warranty native to your country. It is best to find your local distributor in this case. Thanks!
Thanks for the advice
Can you look and see if uKing is a good brand or not?

too much talk 18 min .. for 3 types of fixture ..
Use UA-cam speed to cut it to 9 mins
