I own 2 and they are great guns. Big advantages are a lack of heat in the reciever leading to carbon wiping not scraping off when cleaning, gas adjustment mixed with buffer running really was needed when running high back pressure suppressors before flow through options existed, and it's a long Smith recoil impulse compared to short stroke. With a flow through can, I'm back to shooting my DI guns more again as the are lighter, with better recoil than any piston gun.

I feel like the PWS Alpha would be perfect if they cold-hammer forged the barrel (maybe make it a Medium/SOCOM profile barrel), restore the use of NP3 (or equivalent material) on the Bolt Carrier Group and Carrier key, and upgrade the piston head with forged Inconel. I feel like it would be closer in competition to other piston style rifles (like the aforementioned HK416 and SIG MCX) after that, and separate itself as a premium rifle vs the rest of PWSs Mk1 family.

How is the barrel profile for the alpha? Does it have a heavier profile than their mod1 and mod2 lines?

People saying there's no carrier tilt, as opposed to minimized/solved as a non-issue, are internet wordcels who have no idea how literally anything works on a physical level.
Anyways, can you disassemble the thing to swap charging handles?

You can. The front of the piston comes off so you can remove the charging handle.
