Problem with xrp is that it's holders that give a coin value not transactors who hold it for fractions of a second as an intermediary. One 15 year old holding $500 of a coin for the long term is more valuable to that coin than an institution moving millions but only holding for 0.1 seconds. Think about that. Also they missed the part where ripple the company decides who is able to be a node on the permissioned network which is at the core of the consensus mechanism. Yeah, BTC, the coin that has almost all of its hash rate and mining controlled in China. Nice try Mike. And 52 percent of XRP's validators are outside of Ripple's control. Did you miss that on their website?
Outside their control does not mean that they aren't installed and 'allowed' to be nodes by ripple which is the case. Bottom line is that they could easily be compelled by government to censor transactions or freeze funds. Not censorship resistant means it has no value as a store of value. Mining in china is by many players that have all invested millions and even billions in mining bitcoin. They have a huge incentive to protect the value of bitcoin and are fierce competitors not an organized group. Not to mention that most of the pools you refer to as Chinese now have most of their hash power located all over the world due to crack down on mining in China on mining. Still feel that BTC is the standard to beat. xrp is not fairly distributed. IIRC, no one is allowed to verify the first xrp transactions... so much for being open and decentralized.
It's really the ripple company deciding how and when they got distributed / will get distributed. A fair way of distribution would be an open and algorithmic process that is available to everyone worldwide without a central entity deciding how to distribute the tokens (Bitcoin mining process). At this time >50% of the total xrp is held by one company.
SAL once again not fair. To be fair a user has to build mining farms. A solo miner can’t even gain any amount of btc without a pool. Majority of assets are mined by mining farms and SOLD to the public. If XRP Ledger doesn’t like how ripple distributed the holdings, the community can fork off as already stated.
Just because mining isn't cheap doesn't mean it isn't fair - if you want to mine bitcoin, you have to expend the required energy the bitcoin ecosystem and market is demanding - that's fair, anyone is free to dedicate their time to pursue that if they so wish. Xrapid takes charge of all that process you described , if someone sends money from the US to Japan , than the process would look something like this : USD -> XRP -> JPY , and as you can see during this process , the xrp transaction gets done in seconds , and because of that the volatility would not be a big problem , and the whole process takes minutes . The banks will use Xrapid because its cheaper , faster and more efficient than the other ways of moving money , and it looks more attractive between pairs of currencies with not enough liquidity like Mexico - Philippines .
