it does not seem that you hate the watch , you just pick the wrong model for visibility..
One thing I will totally agree that is a problem with all Alpinas (I own 4 and have owned 7 of them) is the lume is horrendous . it does not bother me too much but how many levels of coolness would this watch gain with decent lume ?
The brand is fantastic and all of them feel premium to them. I still feel like Alpina is still trying to find its style . the newer models are better than the old ones and they are definitely going in the right direction. they also seem to be gaining value on the market as just 2 years ago it was easy to find an auto alpina for 400 dollars. now it is becoming increasingly rare and they are starting to go for 700+ at the minimum .
Also regarding the price.
This watch is put together by hand by swiss watch makers in Switzerland making a decent wage and living . each watch maker may put together 4-5 watches a day. The seiko is chinese made (unless otherwise specified on the dial and case back and even then it may get away with the japan made if the supervisor is japanese)
Also you are comparing a seiko chinese made movement with a modified Sellita movement made in Switzerland and cutomized by Alpina and hand regulated.
Seiko has a ton of issues with miss-alligned bezels , grindy crowns and other stuff. you are also paying extra for the Alpina brand and heritage that goes back over 100 years . Why do you pay 10000 for a rolex when it can be made for 400 dollars by the chinese cloners ? because you pay for the everything i just mentioned .
Finally if you wanted vibility Alpina makes this exact model in other colors .

Actually, the whole bezel is lumed. And yes, we’re talking about “black lume” that is way weaker than a normal one. This is done on purpose, to keep with a black theme. And when one knows what to expect, the lume is not bad at all. No, it will not glow through the night, but it also does not last just 3 minutes, at least not in my case. The worst aspect of the watch is the visibility in half light. But this, as well as the black lume, are something one should know to expect from a watch that goes for a full black look. I wanted a full black watch and am super happy with mine at the price I got it for, except the strap which got removed right away. All a matter of expectations, I guess.
