Excellent video. Don't let anyone tell you that the 22 WMR is inadequate for self defense. It's much easier to be DEADLY ACCURATE with this round than any 9mm for the average shooter. Accuracy over caliber in any situation.

      My understanding is that the
.22 magnum has same stopping power as a 38 special. That means that 3 out of 5 rounds will take you down. Pretty good odds if you ask me.
I need to get one of these for ease of conceal ability as EDC.

      @nickliberto6583 Рік тому +2

I agree. Face it, when shooting with a 2" barrel, one is going to do most defensive shooting within 20'. And several well placed shots will do a lot of discouragement.

.22mag is a little less than half the energy of 9mm. It also has very little penetration. You can easily check the ballistics online. 9mm works well in a revolver also.

    • @Aglassact77

.22 mags are pretty deadly , like any round placed well . If given the choice though , 9mm rounds are deadlier and there’s more choices and types . Almost every .22 test including .22 mag has boasted different results in consistency. It’s a fun round to shoot for sure , but I wouldn’t stake my life on it . Not the best defense round . Maybe a lightweight backup ???

@@stopthehate9102 Recent research with Federal Punch ammo shows superb penetration and wounding, exceeding the .38 special….with much less snappiness to the recoil.

I have a Taurus like this in .22mag but with a 4In barrel. I agree with everything said here. It looks like a 357 but the heft makes it the most accurate gun I own. The .22mag comes screaming out of that barrel. Whenever I bring it with me to the range, I let folks shoot it if they want and everyone finds it to be the most fun gun they’ve shot that day I bought it used and it’s really well built, super reliable and was half the price of the Rutgers and s&w revolvers.

And I am well stocked on ammo ,as I learned my lesson in 2008. I remind myself the Lord is in charge as I think about the next four years. The fit and finish is outstanding as is the bluing, which is highly polished and bright just like old school S&W's. It's accurate as well. A real pleasure to shoot. Being all steel it's a bit heavier than the alloy model, but still very easy to carry.

I finally got my 942 in 22 WMR after being on a waiting list for a few months. It will be next week, at the earliest, before I can take it to the range. Since I have not seen it in stores, I bought based on this and other reviews. I passed on Ruger six shot and S&W seven shot revolvers in comparable size and the same caliber for two reasons. First was the price, about two hundred bucks more for the Ruger and three hundred for the hard to find Smith & Wesson. Second was the hard trigger pull in double action. I could pull it but it was harder than I would like. Well, this Taurus, has a very light, almost a hair trigger when the hammer is pulled back but a very heavy trigger pull in double action mode. This is the heaviest pull I have seen on any handgun with the possible exception of a cheap derringer I passed on. One reason I got this is that, as I get older, it is harder to rack most pistols and eight shots of 22 WMR may be an alternative.

I have the 942LR with a three inch barrel. It is one accurate little revolver. When I fire some of the hot rounds, like punch or stingers, however, the casings often swell enough to make ejection a problem. No such problem with standard ammunition. I am considering purchasing a WMR version with a two inch barrel for EDC.

Uber easy to shoot and I think what you’re shooting puts out something like 140 ft lbs……close to .38 special. The lcr just disappears carrying appendix and has the benefit of being small enough to fit in a pocket if necessary. 22 mag is not an ideal defensive load but in situations that require deep concealment the trade off is worth it and with good shot placement will get the job done

I plan on getting one of the ultra lite versions in 2 inch 22 lr. Last box of 22 mag I bought 2 yrs ago was around $7 and feltvthst was overpriced. From a 2 inch barrel the 22 mag loses a lot of velocity. 22 lrVelocitor Can get pretty close to 22 mag performance for a lot less per 50 round box.Taurus should offer an optional 22 lr cylinder for the 22 mag version..

This seems like a really nice carry gun. The heavy trigger is necessary due to rim fire and reliability issues. But as you said, the trigger stages beautifully,
like S&W. It looks nice too and the availability of a 3” barrel does the trick for me. That, plus the 8 round capacity make this gun a serious contender in my elder carry repertoire. I’m looking for one now. I love 22 Magnum. 32 in a small pistol is still more snappy than I like but I’m keeping the Beretta 3032. The Taurus will be a fine carry gun. Beretta can live beside the bed.

I'd recommend Speer Gold-Dot ammo if you are carrying 22mag for self defense. It's made for short barrels and expands very well at lower velocities. I have a 9" revolver in 22mag and those Gold-Dots just make cans of dog food explode at like 15 yards. They hit pretty hard for a rimfire. I don't carry anything smaller than a 380 though. I use HSTs or extreme penetrators in my Ruger LCP Max.

I became aware of these back in February and was checking online weekly. Finally, in April, I saw it listed on a site. I checked the "notify me" button and waited. In May I got the alert and immediately ordered the 3 inch matte black .22 WMR. By the next day they were sold out. I got lucky though. The price with shipping and transfer fee was a total of $311.
It's a solid gun but it's no S&W. The only trouble I have had with it is that, early on, the brass didn't eject easily. I took a brush and some polish to the chambers and it's been fine since. Good gun for $300 but not a S&W.
FWIW, CCI Maxi Mags averaged about 1120FPS out of that 3 inch barrel. That's getting about the same speed out of a pistol that you get out of a full sized rifle in 22LR

Why Ruger didn't make the SP-101 in 22 Magnum either 8 or 7 shot to complement their .22LR version is beyond compression. Great for Taurus thinking outside the box again as usual and that doesn't weigh a ton.
