I live in Western Montana. I can now work remotely from just about anywhere. Of all the places you've ever been, where is the nicest and somewhat affordable place to live that you've ever seen?

OK I’m 72 and I was there just a year before this happened staying in a cabin that that belong to my great aunt . It was right where the mountain came down, my dad was an avid flyfisherman that’s why we were there he was actually trying to teach me to fish on the Madison River. This certainly brought back all time memories thank you for sharing

I went to Earthquake Lake in July. It's both beautiful and tragic. But you missed the bronze memorial plaque that lists the names of the men, women and children who lost their lives. It's attached to the big boulder. There's a small parking area halfway to the top with a short paved trail leading to the boulder. There's also a story board explaining that the 3000 ton boulder rode the Crest of the slide across the canyon. Undisturbed lichens on it's sides indicate it did not roll or tumble while crossing. The boulder traveled half a mile in 20 seconds. Safe travels Russ!

I was there few times as kid in 67 and 69. I remember that boulder and was hoping he would show it to. Was a very Erie place. It was still in pretty primitive state when I was there. Not even 10 years after it happened.

For those of us who will not be able to vacation this year, this is SUPER!!!! This has been the the best vacation series that I have ever seen. This would have been very commercially valuable. I really appreciate having been along with you for the ride and the views. Be safe.

We were camped at that campground just before the earthquake. We left because my Mother was not feeling well. I was twelve at the time and my Father explained to us that many of the people we were camped by would have been buried in the slide.

    Hello Russ!
Doing a great job, you’re right up there with Survivor Man in being a one man film crew.
Suggestion, when at the Story Boards spend about five or ten seconds on a readable close up.
This way a person can pause the video to read them. Personally I like reading those myself.
Keep up the great show and stay safe.

Truly so peaceful, why wouldn't you want to sleep by the river.
Stay safe, can hardly wait for the next video.

My wife lived in Kalispell and was six at the time of the earthquake. Her family later moved to Washington state where we met . Neither of us had ever been to to Yellowstone or that area until we took a trip through there in 1978. We traveled that same route when we left Yellowstone even though we had quite an argument about my wanting to go that way. My wife remembered the earthquake and knew the history of it and the fate of the people in that campground. She was so freaked out going through there , she wouldn’t let me stop until we got way up north on the Madison and she was still nervous. We now live just down the road, littering, from an even bigger natural event and mountain collapse, Mt. Sant Helens. Just about 25 miles as the crow flies. During the 70’s we use to camp at Spirit Lake campground at the base of St. Helens, which is some 400’ below the new level of the lake and slide from the collapse of the mountain.

Russ, if you go 287 to Helena, when you cross I-90 there is some construction on 287. I came through there a month ago and it was rough! If you go that way to Helena and you stay on 287/H-15 it is a pretty drive.. Take 297 up to Choteau and then up to Browning. Go left on Hwy 2 over to Kalispell and then south on the shores of Flathead lake! Very pretty.

I grew up on a cattle ranch just outside of McAllister, 6 miles north of Ennis on 287. You should take time to visit Virginia City near Ennis!!!
In regard to Missoula or Helena, I would opt for Missoula (Garden City), home of University of Montana and one of the most beautiful campuses in America. You can hike up to the M near the campus and get a fantastic view of Missoula and the Valley (A River Runs through It). North of Missoula is the incredible Mission Valley and the famed Flathead Lake...not the 8th wonder if the world, but it should be! One of the 300 purest major freshwater lakes in the world, and the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. Hebgen and Quake lake are a drop in the bucket!
If you walk up to the M you will virtually stand on the visible shorelines of geologic Lake Missoula that drained millions of years ago leaving a pond now called Flathead Lake.
Just north of Flathead lake is Glacier Park and the Going to the Sun road. Another must see!!! Check it out!!!!

🙋‍♀️ Hello Russ! Sunday, in the early morning on 8/9/20, we had a Earthquake 5.1 (Sparta, N.C.) My 1St experience of a earthquake. My cat & I will never be the same. I thought my water heater was coming out of the closet it made such a rattling noise.👍 It was sad to hear people died, but it happened so fast. Now, we've seen Mother Nature healing herself. (in away.) Thank Dan for sharing this with us, & thank you for showing us Quake Lake.

Great video Russ. I lived in Whitehall Montana and was three years old when it happened. That is about 50 mile northwest of Ennis. We felt the Quake hit that night in fact my old brother tells me he was knocked out of the upper bunk bed while I was in the lower bunk and don’t remember because I was too little. Our family was camped there at the campground that got buried about a month prior to the quake happening. Again I was too young to remember but my Dad sure did! Enjoy your trip through Montana. Looking forward to watching your Canyon Ferry Lake video as well since after Whitehall we moved to Helena and that was my stomping grounds until I graduated from Highschool there.
