    It's hard to believe that this is the colt that was one auction away from the kill pen. What a blessing that you happened to be at an auction, immediately felt drawn to him, though you walked away, then couldn't stop thinking about him, searched for him, etc., and there he stands, sooooo beautiful, strong and healthy! Oliver is where God meant for him to be! Good job JR! Good job Rosa Family, Good job channel supporters! Oliver stands as a testament to LOVE!

      he wouldn't have made it thru the next auction. He would have likely collapsed (in his back legs) from his EPM either being trailered there or being shown. If he fell, he was never getting back up again.

      Jr said in the previous video that Oliver is there to stay for life.. I think initially he was going to sell him once he was better and trained but just like he has done with us viewers he has got into the heart of the whole Rosa family and he is part of them for the rest of his life.. I think JR would honestly be devastated if he ever had to get rid of Oliver..that day when they met at that auction when he looked so bad but JR could see he was a really good horse..Oliver must have felt crappy but he was still polite and gentle when jr went in with him..something clicked and this partnership was meant to be..

It's nice to see you giving him a bath, taking care of his feet and feathers. Also thank you for mentioning the study about Thoroughbred 2-year-olds. My background is with racing Thoroughbreds. Great video guys..nice to see the comparison between them..Sonny built to trot and for speed..Clydesdale for strength and steadying trot..Oliver is slower on the trotting but that's not his special skill..its strength and obedience and gentleness which he has so much of..Sonny is a beauty..very sleek..he's a quick learner..how good was our boy standing there for his bath and getting his feathers done..not bothered about you messing with his feet..so many horses I've seen can be a bit ornery where their feet are concerned..but Oliver is such a gentleman..god what a brilliant temperament in such a big horse..nobody would recognise him compared to that first meeting at auction..a different horse altogether except he always was a gentle boy even when he was feeling like crap.. thank you for showing how they're getting on. .can't wait to see them in the lake...will you be taking Champ there too or is he still a bit young? Looking forward to the next video..God Bless you all..🇬🇧💞✝️🙏👍👏👍👏🐎🐎🇺🇸

    I can't believe the outcome of him in just a short period of time. He has grown so much and he looks wonderful. Fantastic temperament two. I had to shave my Clyde's nails legs down because he got scratches really bad and almost impossible to control with feathers.

    • @cattymajiv
      @cattymajiv Рік тому +2

      His nails? Please tell us what you mean. What are the scratches from? I'm just curious and want to learn.

    • @fleetskipper1810
      @fleetskipper1810 Рік тому +3

      Scratches is a form of dermatitis that can affect horses’ heels, pasterns, and lower legs. The skin forms micro-lesions that let in bacteria or fungi. It can be caused by various things, but standing in excessive moisture from a muddy pasture is a common one. If your local area has a rainy spring or summer, it can be hard to avoid them.
      The scratches get infected, causing the horse a lot of discomfort. The thin skin on the horse’s lower leg becomes heated and swollen and covered with tiny scabs. These tiny wounds have to be dried up in order to heal. To do that, you have to sanitize the area and pick off the tiny scabs, then apply medicine to them.
      Horses like Oliver that have long feathers (hair) on their lower legs are especially hard to treat because you can’t get at these little wounds very easily. Sometimes people shave the feathers off in order to get at the scratches to treat them with topical medicine to address the infection.
      There are various commercial brands of medicine or ointment that you can buy to treat scratches. Lots of people successfully use home remedies.
      But scratches are stubborn and can take weeks to totally go away. Some horses seem to be prone to getting scratches more than other horses, so once your horse has gotten them once, you have to be super vigilant to keep an eye out for a recurrence.
      Left untreated, scratches can turn into a pretty serious condition. If the wounds don’t close or get too infected, scratches can turn into a vet emergency.
      All of the care that Oliver is getting will prevent it from becoming an emergency. The diatomaceous earth that JR is hand-working through Oliver’s feathers dries up the underlying skin a bit and helps maintain the health of his heels and lower legs.
      Also, I don’t think that JR really wants to shave off those beautiful feathers! They are part of Oliver’s Clydesdale look. I don’t blame him for that! But it means more work for JR.

      @cattymajiv Рік тому +1

Hadnt seen any videos since and this one popped up in my feed tonight so I thought I would check out how he was doing...To be floorded is an understatement. He is such a beautiful animal. Great job. Thank you fo changng this guys life. Well done...Just amazing.

    I❤uploads w/JR training any of his horses, he's a great teacher & can see why he's gone Pro....cause he is one!! Ollie is looking so Good & his 1st session was Great! Sunny🌞was Brilliant..he's so smart at 2 & trying to anticipate what you want before you ask for it. I thought you were keeping him to show & perhaps breed, but JR mentioned he's sold & being trained for the new owner!!? Shocker!😨

      What's shocking about it? It's a horse farm. As one other owner of a horse operation also has to keep explaining over and over to their audience, the horses are only sold to good reliable homes. And if every horse was kept forever, they would have no abilty to help new horses.
      Some viewers are obviously teenagers, with no clue about the idea of making a living. Horse feed and vet care, and the huge number of other things that ALL cost money, do not come free. Selling horses is a reality of farm life. That said, I am basically opposed to all horse breeding, even when done in a caring way, but I know it won't ever end. At least these guys are super caring and responsible about it.

      He’s still a baby by Clydesdale standards, so he has some more growing to do. I read that by 12 months, Clydesdales reach 90% of their height, but it takes 4-6 more years for them to reach their full height and weight. 👍🏻

    • @NChillbilly
      @NChillbilly Рік тому

      I may be wrong but I'm curious if Oliver's full height potential may be a little less than it would have been due to his neglect and malnutrition in his formative years. He is already around 16 hands so he might hit 17 when fully grown, just a little less than the 18-19 hand or more range which average for males. He is perfect in my eyes. Never saw such an improvement due to the exceptional care he has been given. He surely beat the odds. Watching him stumble in his earliest video broke my heart. Watching him gallop around so majestically behind the 4 wheeler in one video was so awesome. He looked 100% He really got lucky to be picked and I couldn't believe how original owner no saled him in the condition He was in. I would have had a hard time not confronting his original owner over his condition which was a crime in my eyes.

    Hi there. Sixty years ago we used laundry bluing to make a white horse extra white. The bluing came as a little block wrapped in cheese cloth and tied with string. Grandma used it in the final rinse to get the whites - sheets, undies etc. - very white. It worked wonderfully on a horse as long as your horse wasn't inclined to dig up some clay to roll in over night before showing.
