My neighbor had a peacock. It was pretty noisey but it gave the block wilderness vibes. Eventually though, you'd hear the peacock sound and then the neighbor on the other side yelling "STFU 🤬". And then they got rid of it 😔
We used to have chickens, these are considerably quieter. Because with chickens- even the hens are noisy as all hell (usually after somebody lays an egg). I think our neighbors are happy for the transition.

Hi! I just found your channel and you are the first person I’ve heard on utube that talks about. How male birds calls can annoy neighbors….it’s an issue I’ve had as a neighbor to someone who had chickens and the rooster crowed most of the day and it would literally cut through you it was so loud! I actually started to not go out side because of this…I only lived by this house for a year though so I survived!😁
yeah but roosters only go off in the early morning. quails go off all through out the night and morning randomly. (not good for people trying to sleep)
The Male Quail i have do sing out but they sound very much like other birds in the wild, in Australia you are able to keep both female and male quail, if they do cause noise build a hatch inside your garage (making sure that it dosn't over heat) and just keep your breeding flock in there and keep your egg layers in a aviary outside.
Thanks so much for sharing this. My deeds say I can't keep chickens as they're livestock. Quails aren't considered livestock so he can get it up him. 😅
Ok good to know my 2 quails are females, it was really hard to tell, lately one of my quails have been making frog like sounds and I couldn't figure out if she was a girl. Thank you!
I live in a very hot climate, and I would like to get some quail to place in my backyard. There are wild quail that live out in my desert so I would like to get some of them. However I don't know whether or not they would next extra heat or something to cool them down.
you have the perfect place for them..all they need is put something to shade them..go to, '' softbills for sale'' they'll have everything you want in birds.
Oh yes, they could definitely annoy your neighbors. There is a male Japanese quail two doors down from us, and it trills once every 7 to 10 seconds, all day and into the late evening.
I have a jumbo male and a italian male that I keep in my bedroom along with 6 females. They're really only loud when they first wake up and when they're about to go to bed. Really they're not noisy enough to interrupt my life, so I doubt that most people would have a problem keeping them outside.
My brother once came home to sleep because he had a fight with his girlfriend. It was just after I got my quail. Needless to say in the middle of the night he went home and apologized
Please don't buy quails if you have neighbours, my neighbour has one and it makes every summer hell, windows closed to hot windows open, it screetches the ENTIRE night every 10 sec every single day (even windows closed I hear it) Seriously, i'm here because i haven't slept in days... Gonna try to talk go them or go to the cops i can't take this anymore.... THE ENTIRE NIGHT, every damn year
You think that's bad. Try having a Macaw that crows like s rooster and having the city called on you because your neighbors think you have a rooster. A macaw crowing like a rooster is very loud. You can hear him like 3 or 4 blocks away. But the city can't do anything about it. Macaws are allowed as pets.
Gawds yes they are. The males, anyway. We were lucky our neighbours didnt have us shot! Ended up having to dispatch all but of of our boys. Not only did the noise keep the neighbours awake every night for a few weeks as they matured, it kept us up as well at all hours.
I do live in close proximity with city folk and one reason I was thinking along the line of quail was that I might be allowed to breed them for meat, since I’m not allowed to own a chicken rooster for the reason of noise… is there a possibility that one male quail would not “crow” if it were the only male? Or are you suggesting one male because it would just be less noise? 😬

Yes you can. Commercial quail growers often raise them in cages without natural sunlight, however, optimal conditions would be a place where the quail can get access to some sunlight through the day if they want. Sunlight gives quail vitamin D which is important for the overall health of the bird and whilst commercial feed will contain this supplement there's no doubt in my mind that birds do enjoy some sunlight. Commercial growers will sometimes grow quail under UV lighting which can simulate sunlight to some degree (without the warming effect) so perhaps a UV light could help in your situation or a cage which can be moved to a window for occasional direct or indirect sunlight. Cheers :)
If I have only females will they still lay eggs? How often do they lay eggs? I'm looking into maybe getting a couple but I want to know what I'm getting into first.
Annie Ollom Hi Annie, yes they will lay eggs without a male for a trigger similar to chickens. Some quail can lay an egg every day during the spring and summer and then (depending on where you are) they usually stop laying over winter.
i just got my own house with a huge fenced in yard and going to make a hen house with the kids and then maybe get some or a couple chickens :) my life is so perfect now! i would assume they wouldn't lay eggs in the winter cause pa is freezing cold in the winter @_@ thanks for all your advice. i cant wait to let the kids know.

There arn't really any silent animals, everything makes some type of noise to communcate or when distressed. I'd say a female deer, or rabbits are the quietest animals. Finches although chirpy they are so small and blend in with the wild birds, maybe look for something that is pretty common in the wild in your area then the sound should blend in, especially if its small.
Thanks for the info Scarlet. I live in the Suburbs, and animal control will take your birds if they are too loud. I also live in the High Desert where it's important to limit water use, that's why I avoid ducks and other waterfowl. Not crazy about venison and rabbit. Too gamey and too lean.
Saint Michael Thats terrible, no warning or anything? I think everyone should be allowed to keep one male, but agree in close space it gets too noisy, my neighbours on one side have 20+ roosters and the others all have 2-3 each so it gets very noisy. If the birds will get taken, I would probably not get any males. I havn't looked into it as live in the wet and cold UK, but permaculture would tell you to look at desert animals, anything thats domesticated that you can legally farm, maybe there is something that makes less noise that also is suited to the climate.
I got 5 young quail and was only able to sex them a few months ago. 3 females and 2 males. They are super quiet in comparison to our chooks! I'm studying so I've spent a lot of time at home in the last few weeks - I've only heard the male call 3 times a day MAX. I've got 8 eggs sitting in the incubator, I'm sure the addition of more quail will make more noise lol.
@@hadi9644 Are you even allowed to annoy the hell out of your neighbors 24 hours a day with those damned things? Good for country living but not suburbia~
I have three females at the moment that make the "male" call. I also have other females that when seperated from their friends due to injury do make the "male" call. The 3 females that make the "male" call are the most dominant of my quail females. I find that The "male" call is made by quail who are more dominant or who are stressed/lonely calling to their buddies. I also have a couple males who don't make a noise at all.
If you want to breed the quail then you'll need a male per five females at least but if you just want to keep them for eggs and pets then I would personally only get females. Males can be noisy and they also sometimes fight. :)
+Oliver Handy Yeah they probably do lol however there's too many predators out there and they wouldn't last very long unfortunately. Domestic quail can't survive in the wild but at least in a pen they have more space then the cages most quail farms keep them in... Cheers :)
Some of my males are noisy as hell some are rather quiet. The quiet ones I'm keeping the noisy ones are going to freezer camp

Thats terrible, no warning or anything? I think everyone should be allowed to keep one male, but agree in close space it gets too noisy, my neighbours on one side have 20+ roosters and the others all have 2-3 each so it gets very noisy.
If the birds will get taken, I would probably not get any males.
I havn't looked into it as live in the wet and cold UK, but permaculture would tell you to look at desert animals, anything thats domesticated that you can legally farm, maybe there is something that makes less noise that also is suited to the climate.
how tall do these birds grow need to know asap as im building a avary and want to build it a retreat
Not more than 6 inches high and about 250 - 350 g
brill sorted thanks
Here we have an Australian male producing what seems to be English words 😅
I just have one quail but I plan on getting like 2 more
+Rainbow Pets I'm sure your quail will enjoy the extra company. Cheers :)
Self Sufficient Me shes my lil girl and you should check her on my UA-cam channel shes there on one video
Are males and females noisy or just males ?
I love it,I live female quail,I don’t like male,too noisy 😡
Thank you.
So the males are the noise ones and the females are the quiet ones
+Ps4 all the way Yes correct. The females still make a call but it's like a cricket whereas the males shrill when they call. cheers :)
Are bobwhite quails nosy?
do you sale the quails
+Jonny Martinez No I don't sell quail I breed them for my own use. Cheers :)
Oҡ
One mail for 3 femile, trata de tener mas hembras y menos machos, también puedes sacrificarlos y comer su carne.
nice. I love it so much. I have six quails
my neighbor has one that goes off every 20 seconds 24 hours a day, I am ready to shoot it
Yeah they can be annoying! Don't use anything bigger than a slug gun otherwise you'll just end up with a bunch of feathers lol... cheers :)
😂😂😂😂
Are you even allowed to shoot other people's pets WTH
It was a joke, Hadi XD
@@hadi9644 Are you even allowed to annoy the hell out of your neighbors 24 hours a day with those damned things?
Good for country living but not suburbia~
no. not noisy
I also have a couple males who don't make a noise at all.
i want them for the eggs, but didn't want chickens because of the noise. seeing this, it's going to be just females. thanks😊
💜
What about button quails?
+mantidgirl Not sure about them sorry :)
We have button quail and they are tiny and the male call sounds a bit like a puppy whine. Not loud at all.
Yes button quail are certainly quieter. Cheers :)
Button quail say HEE hee hee hee hee.....
The plural of quail, is quail. Not quails!
I think he just followed the logic. Lots of persons today, mainly mans, say quails... Now let me finish eating my rices. Byes!
@@Fervorum awesome. maybe she understood what you did there, but her tiny nazi correcting habits probably will explode her tiny brains lol
Do you sell quail eggs on ebay ? Because I got scamed and the eggs weren't fertal and your youtube thumbnail is the exact photo they used on eBay.....
Quails ate Bai and their popcorns are so cute
:-) Pandora quail birds
i live n a suburb and want quail should get females or females and a male
If you want to breed the quail then you'll need a male per five females at least but if you just want to keep them for eggs and pets then I would personally only get females. Males can be noisy and they also sometimes fight. :)
do i need male quail or can i just get female
+Dawn Hawbecker Hi, no you can just get female quail and they'll be plenty happy without any males around. Cheers :)
I'd rather here that than the cr@p I heer in my
I mean you did film the weakest male in the bunch lol look at the back of his head
They look like they want to get out... : (
+Oliver Handy Yeah they probably do lol however there's too many predators out there and they wouldn't last very long unfortunately. Domestic quail can't survive in the wild but at least in a pen they have more space then the cages most quail farms keep them in... Cheers :)
They need the barrier, cats foxes heck even other bigger birds will take them easily
