    So... yeah... starts and idles find but in high, low, or reverse no gears result in motion. Why is that?
    Time for a done day push to find the root cause. Ever look back and have one of those moments where you realize the problem was right in front of you but you missed it? How about missed it a few times? I'm going to need a few beers after this one.

    Does it take separate transmission, fluid or gear fluid or does the oil and gears all in one?

    • @VermontLife
      @VermontLife  20 днів тому

      The rear diff has it's own oil fill at the diff (80w) Otherwise the only oil is wet clutch safe motor oil in the motor case which lubricates the transmission and gears.

    I believe your clutch isn't installed properly, I had the same problem on my Moto4 200, you need to line up that arrow with a dot on something I can't remember what, maybe the clutch basket?

      That was exactly it :) Live and learn.

    Where do you get all your knowledge from on these bikes, is it just from service manuals and the internet or do you know people irl that you can ask? As far as ive seen you have the most extensive atv repair and troubleshooting videos on the interwebs they are extremely useful

      I just sat down and started figuring it out a few years back. Started with a go kart and Tao Tao 110cc quad. It took me awhile to learn to use the tools and understanding electrical schematics in manuals etc. but yes, I use manuals a lot now. I have to give credit to folks in forums for answering my questions over the years. Experience builds on experience and the people who have given advice to me over the years have been extremely helpful. Thanks for the shout out.

    Ive got a 1988 225 (same as that black one with the red seat in the background) that has a problem with low range. If i shift it into low range, it acts like its in neutral. If i jiggle the selector around, it will sometimes engage into low range, but wont stay in it. If i get it into low range and start going, it will lose it as soon as i let off the throttle. Any idea what the problem could be? From what i can tell, the sub transmission is inaccessible without splitting the case.

      Sounds like just an adjustment is needed on the cable via the two nuts further forward of the shift linkage. I’d hunt a few videos on how to adjust that appropriately. Unfortunately I don’t have a video on it but I bet that’s your issue. It can be hard to get at the adjustment nuts behind the exhaust but there’s no need to split the case. (And I would doubt there’s a need to in this scenario.)

    I have just got a yfm350 and need some help, i meshed shifter gears correctly and it drives great, but if i go above 1st gear it will not go back to neutral, please let me know what you think and could guide me

      How about the clutch plate pressure screw? It’s on the outside of the clutch case by your right heel. Should be stamped ‘ increase’ and ‘decrease’. You might try searching a video or two on it but I would suggest decreasing it a turn and test. How do you get it back to neutral if you go above first?

    Hi I've recently got a 1991 yamaha moto 4 250 that has not been going for 10 years. Does anyone know the positive and negative terminal points on the engine and frame. Is anyone able to send me any photos. Thanks.

    • @VermontLife
      @VermontLife  Рік тому

      on the engine and frame... I'm comparing mentally to this unit but there's a negative on the starter, the top back of the motor behind the carb and the back of the frame behind the battery. For positive... nothing connects to the frame as that would ground out. battery positive goes into starting solenoid, then out into the harness. I have another video with a full harness walk through on a 350 Big bear which is quite similar which might help. ua-cam.com/video/YNeIEuRzwEc/v-deo.html

    I have the same 4 wheeler and I cannot pull the lever into low range or reverse its just stuck in high. Does anyone have any ideas what my problem is?

    • @VermontLife
      @VermontLife  4 місяці тому

      Sounds like it is out of adjustment. I haven’t found any good videos on it but the manuals have a good section on how to ensure your cable is adjusted right. Hop into a Facebook forum for big bears / moto4’s and I’m sure someone there has detail in their files section. (Or just ask the question.) I really should make a video as I see this often and I bet it’s your issue.

      @@VermontLife i just finished working on it and disconnected the cable at the gear selector down by the engine.
      It seem like the reverse lever itself is locked up?

      Thanks. Glad it can help. Biggest challenge on the top end is getting old bolts loosened without breaking anything. After that the rest of the work really isn't bad. Good luck.
