Perhaps, but one can't discount all of the studio work that Page did from the time he was a school boy, and the innovative things he did with techniques and alternate tunings.
@@davidbailey1945 JPJ was formally trained, & yes played several instruments, the others were self taught which say so much. Bonham had a few lessons as a boy, yet didn’t learn to read music. His mother wanted him to go back, & learn to read music, he said he didn’t need to go back. He also didn’t get a real drum kit (small though) until age 15, yet look how amazing a player. Page was self taught also, other than a school friend teaching him some chords. He was the most in demand sessions guitarist in London, he played on so many bands & artists songs the list is amazing. That was also how Page could improvise so easily at concerts, in sessions he was just to play whatever, & make it sound good. So they all are very impressive, for being The GODS Of MUSIC!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JPJ!!! My deepest love to one of the greatest bass players to ever live! I am thankful you have reached 79 years old :) Rock on, brother!!
John Paul Jones, the lowly bassist, was the most level-headed and sober member of the band. When the others fell to alcohol and drugs, he stepped up. In Through the Out Door was Jones's album. He got the recording process done when the others, especially Page and Bonham, were no longer capable of doing it.
@@JDSly1 JPJ also drank & did drugs, he just didn’t get addicted. When Plant’s son died, he stopped the drugs, he drinks but I’m not sure he’s an alcoholic. Page & Bonham weren’t exactly thrilled with ITTOD, it wasn’t the direction they wanted to go in. Yes there’s a couple good songs on it, but you can tell it’s more a JPJ forward album, & not so much the other three.
Bonham was Incredible and was the main reason along with Buddy Rich that I started playing drums. Led Zeppelin is and will always be my favorite Rock band. I only wish I could have met them and especially Bonzo. Thank the stars above I got to see them live in 1973 and again in 1977.
Bonham to me is the best percussionist to ever live. I understand his demons. I have them myself. I cannot stop the things that I know are killing me.R.I.P. tO THE BEST DRUMMER EVER.
He looked to be in bad shape, getting belly fat and out of shape despite his arms and hands being able to beat out the rhythm. I don't know why his pride led him to drink so excessively. You think he'd get sick and tired of being sick and tired. Such a shame. I had tickets for a show In October 1980 that never came to be.
So did a friend of mine, after previous years of failed effort, needless to say his depression went on for weeks with incessant whining, all justified mind you.
I know Bonham had an alcohol addiction, & he missed his family when touring, but I don’t believe all the issues with the band. You can’t have the precision mentioned Bonham demanded, in a band that never played a song the same way twice. I’m not buying that part at all, was there some conflict at times, I’m sure there was. Having 4 musical geniuses in one band, I’m sure there were some disagreements, but not explosive.
I think that it’s why they were so freaking great at improvisation because they knew the material inside and out because Bonham made them practice so much
if Bonzo had survived it all, i'm sure he would agree today that alcohol complicated things more for him than anything, because even Cream had managed to survive their issues, in which heroine use by one member was one of them. Aerosmith were one of the most troubled bands by far during the 70's involving drug addiction, and they too survived it later, in part by the whole band developing a new attitude about--if you can't come up with anything better than the other guy during writing sessions, then zip it. even Stevie Ray Vaughn managed to do it until the tragic accident, if that's what it was. there is still far too many rock fans today who don't take into account that at least a few 70's bands were anti--addiction and Skynerd and Purple were a few.
Look at K Richards some people CAN survive it....but you either just visually crazy or you can use it most of your life not injecting tho he brings collapse.
Bonham and Plant were close friends and the closest of all band members, regardless of any arguments. Bonham was trying to kick heroin when he died, a lot like Moon trying to kick booze when he died.
JP Jones & Bonham were tight As, my man! Bonzo would have had JPJs back every step of the way, as discussed in. Mick Walls excellent book as well as former roadie Richard Coles book.If there was any discontent in this band, it was sorted quickly. Bonzos relationship with Robert Plant was the Most questionable in fact-- sometimes to the total amusement of JPJ & Jimmy Page, acording to some anecdotes...
The video of JPJ playing mandolin with Paul Gilbert on acoustic guitar playing an instrumental version of "Going to California" is one of those that you could put on an endless loop, and not tire of it. ua-cam.com/video/J8WpL5eHFkM/v-deo.html Enjoy!
It was really the being on the road that took the toll on the band and there families. They were victims of there own success , it’s kinda what killed Elvis
DUDE GET A LIFE, NOBODY IS GOING TO PUT UP WITH THIS, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE MIGHTY LED ZEPP, TREAD CAREFULLY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED MORE THAN ONCE,,,,,,,JAN,
I hate anyone criticising any member of Zep. I don’t believe that JPJ has a bad word to say about Bonzo. JPJ is too much of a gentleman.
totally agree.
Jonsey would never call Bonzo an idiot he had too much respect for his talent
JPJ was the most musical of Led Zepellin. A true musician without the excess who held the band together. He deserves much more credit.
Perhaps, but one can't discount all of the studio work that Page did from the time he was a school boy, and the innovative things he did with techniques and alternate tunings.

He was the smart one, imo
I fast forwarded this clip because I thought it wouldnt ACTUALLY be JPJ talking, but some tedious content creator.....and I was right
Thank You...
Wel that’s four minutes I’ll never get back 🤣🤣🤣
a lot of great pics though.
Maybe the February 7th upcoming documentary will do better.
" Becoming Led Zeppelin," I believe.
Hope so
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JPJ!!!
My deepest love to one of the greatest bass players to ever live!

Greatest band in rock history, in my humble opinion. Huge thank you to every single member of Led Zeppelin. Salute!
Exactly where did he say “he was an idiot”?
You lost me at bassest
me too
Yes, we all know he played the trout. And occasional halibut.
really ? well was certainly the best one of the time

...and it was still both a masterpiece and pioneering thanks to him, too!
@@alexkx8599 Nah Plant's vocals buried in the mix too much for me

I don't hear john paul Jones saying anything. AND the guy talking called him a baaaassist

Bonham wouldn't give you the time of day . From all accounts he was an obnoxious character .
@@Eaglesmere When drinking as alcohol can change people's personalities. When he was sober he was a completely different person (for the better.)
Like the bass fish?
That’s what working with a drunk is like…
Complete frustration
What are the sources for all this? JPJ? If so, why no supporting interview(s)?
I'm a bass-ist, because I sometimes go fishing for bass. JPJ was bassist (bay-sist)!!!
Question: he may have been as you say an idiot, but one hell of a drummer to this day.
idiots make the best drummers....

At the time Bonham’s right foot bass drum technique with a Ludwig Speed King pedal was mind boggling!😮
Bonham was one of a kind. When he died, so did Led Zeppelin. I too find it unbelievable that Jones said these things about his friend.
Moonie was a happy drunk bonzo was a mean drunk and they ended the same way
You should have asked Kim about Moon drinking

He was a Bricklayer and let his Drums do his talking.
I think this is a load of old nonsense.
Jimmy Page once said he "believes" in the UNCONDITIONAL LOVE of the 688 million Goddesses that evolved the Universe. ✌️.
JPJ was a master of all kinds of Bass.. large mouth, small mouth, stripers, and peacock!
I'll be suprised if Jones dosen't sue over this misrepresentation.
this documentary needed to be broken up with personal accounts. As it is it just seems to run on and on, repeating itself.
I watched enough of this to tell you not to bother watching any of it.

Cover story for required sacrifice
A brilliant drummer and sodden alcoholic who killed himself with alcohol toxicity. Heros with feet of clay.
Thanks

ya, he had sponsored Bonzo with Ludwig drum endorsement, which everyone used then because of Ringo.

what is a bassist? is that some one who only wants bass when going fishing?
