    If you need a life coach….. do yourself a favor and just go get a therapist.

      Nah bro you just need an awakened third eye and also Jesus, at the same time 😂
      No but for real that's what a life coach was preaching, even though Jesus didn't know what a third eye was

      I've been going to therapy more than half of my life. Most therapists just keep passing me around because they have no idea how to help me but are unable to say it out loud. Mental health professionals are failing a lot of people. While life coaches are not really the solution, they exist exactly because the professionals are failing, a lot.

      I don't trust (or care about) life coaches and self-help books.
      I usually go by the principle: if you succeed following a self-help book, you probably don't even need that book in the first place.

      I’ve had a good life coach. Multiple PhD’s, old guy still in grad school.
      Very thorough. He was more helpful than my psychiatrists have ever been

    “Life coaches” are so unregulated it’s a joke. One person I know just “decided” they were going to become a life coach. They were the most emotionally unstable person I know.
    She was an older lady, around her mid-50’s, who was dealing with a divorce, apparently sleeping around with random dudes she would find on the street at her friend’s house after she was allowed to stay there temporarily because she was now homeless, drinking her life away, chronically unemployed, and crying every night. Believe me, the advice she gives is destructive and bad behavior. The fact that she can bs her way to become a life coach means nobody should trust a life coach unless they can prove themselves.

    I'm a retired mental health professional and, when I was working, I carried the highest state and national credentials that were available in my field. But _life coaches?_ Come on, gimme a break. Licensing? Certification? Life coaching is not a profession. There are no college degrees, no curriculum, no established standards, no field of research, no nothin' We might as well require a license to be a cowboy. Coming up with licensing standards would be like trying to lasso smoke.
    Tell you what might work for purposes: Require life coached to get a signed waiver from every client acknowledging that life coaches are mot regulated, are nor part of the professional mental health network, and that mental health professionals working in the field do so without the official oversight required of other mental health professions. and may (in some states) be prohibited from claiming certain technical credentials. It should be clearly stated that, despite any degrees or certifications, a life coach is not a professional mental health worker.

    Social media has brought out the worst in people. This situation is a direct consequence of the “Utah valley mentality “ There is a combination of gross naivety, willful gullibility, and a condescending hubris that is endemic to Utah in general and Provo specifically. This particular case spotlights the magnitude of male self-loathing and the elevation of the “virtuous woman” that is a cultural staple in Utah. Men are beaten into submission by a society that makes this self-loathing a subconscious attribute. I have lived here for 7 years now. Its weird…very weird. The Franke’s are all complacent in the destruction of children’s lives.

      I agree somewhat, but would also add that I think it's a direct result of the rampant misogyny prevalent in the.. ahem... "culture" in the area. The pendulum swinging too far the other way kinda thing.

    It's sad that people will trust a 'life coach' rather than go to their bank and talk to one of their licensed financial advisors.

    • @Masterkavi
      @Masterkavi 3 місяці тому

      No of course they're biased for their bank. It's who they work for. But that doesn't mean they want you to lose money. They want you to make money, with their bank, so that their bank can make money off you. @@calebwilliams586

      @@calebwilliams586 If they're a certified fiduciary, then yes, they're legally obligated to act in the best interests of their clients or they can face civil and criminal penalties. Most financial advisers are fiduciaries, as are attorneys. That said, it's important to ask questions before taking on an advisor. Questions like, am *I* your client? Are you a certified fiduciary? If they don't answer yes to both, talk to someone else.

    I haven't watched the video yet so this may well be addressed (it's 1am and I'm old so need sleep lol, will watch in the am) but, has anyone thought about getting more involved with churches such as LDS. More and more of these sick, abusive "parents" seem to be taking something from their church that for some reason leads to these kinds of cases, the two very public ones recently being Ruby Franke and Lori Vallow Daybell. Obviously it isn't the religion itself or every faithful person would be starving and tying up their kids because they have "demons" or they are "zombies" and it's not LDS specifically (are they also known as Mormons or is that something different? I'm not religious myself so the various names and denominations are sometimes confusing) as there are similar cases in other faith structures but what they do seem to have in common is that they (the faiths where these types of cases are often seen) are on the more conservative, more orthodox side of the coin.
    Surely the LDS church and others don't want the publicity of these people doing awful things in their name/suggesting these behaviours are sanctioned by the faith itself? Maybe by working with local outreach programmes and law enforcement, possibly even psychologists etc there could be a way to determine (generally speaking) where someone who is headed towards this frame of mind is veering off from what most people take as (a) a more figurative approach rather than literal demons and zombies, and (b) normal rebellious kid behaviour as part of their development - and come to this idea that these children need to be controlled and punished because they are in some way, shape or form, "evil"?
    I get that people within the church want to keep their ideas etc private but if I was interested in joining their chapter(?) congregation(?) whatever they call the local group then they'd discuss that kind of thing with me surely, to see if I was a good fit for them and visa versa? I can also understand them not wanting people who aren't religious to blame their faith for these people that claim to do abhorrent things because it's a part of their faith, or see the fact that Franke, Vallow Daybell and X other people all abused their kids because their kids were "evil" and they also all happen to be a part of the LDS as evidence that the church is to blame, but honestly, people will do that shit anyway, because they're prejudiced and because at a certain point coincidence begins to form a pattern. Is it not in their best interests to figure out what in their message/faith is giving some people the idea that this stuff is ok and/or to come out and publicly denounce these people because they've bastardised the faith they love and used it as an excuse to abuse and murder their own children?

    • @pumkin610
      @pumkin610 3 місяці тому

      Bad things will happen to children and we can't prevent it. Parents can't be trusted with their children and yet that's how it must be. Yes religion or any belief system does create an opportunity for pointless fear and hatred, but people who don't believe in anything can also do horrible things and people don't need a reason to be awful, people can and will believe anything and do anything.
