I'm making these for Thanksgiving! :) The lemons are sitting out to dry, and tomorrow morning I'll put the cakes together! No one has to know they're game of thrones themed! ;)
Okonomiyaki Gaijin how did they turn out?
They were really good! The cake is really yummy. It's a very light but delicious snack. I wish I had cooked the lemons for maybe twice as long though, to really soften them. The lemon rind ended up being hard and difficult to chew, so everyone just pulled the lemons off before eating them.
Okonomiyaki Gaijin must I dry the lemon slices for 20hrs???? Can I dry them in the oven on low heat???
Hmmm. I think that might be fine too! I dried mine for 20 hours, but if you put them in the oven after boiling them they might actually become softer? The lemon rind being too firm was one of the problems I had with it.
I would've brushed the cakes with a little bit of that lemony syrup that you boiled the meyer lemon slices in 😍😍😍
There has to be a use for that sugar water, I'm sure. Maybe make more candied lemons with it and then evaporate it into lemon rock and candy?
I did this and it was really good!! Glad I didn't throw the water/syrup away
I would save it and use it in cocktails 😋

Hi! I first found this and tried the recipe ~6 months ago and have literally made it probably 20 or 30 times since. I love it SO much. I think I can do it from memory now, lol! My family and friends have started associating anything lemon-flavored with me and get excited when I make them. Thank you for your wonderful video and recipe. Whenever the world gets too much I put on a random season season of Game of Thrones in the background and spend like 3 hours taking my time making these; it has become almost like a self-care ritual. And it yields delicious cake! Just wanted to say thank you

Mine are now baking in the oven! I put some strawberries with the lemon slices in 3 of the cakes :) I hope they turn out nice (the batter was damn good)

TheBigM They turned out great! I replaced the sour cream with plain yogurt instead. And thing is, you gotta slice the lemons very thin (as thin as you can without ruining the shape) to avoid the bitterness in the rines to come out. And careful not to over bake them (I kinda did so they browned a bit😅) but they were absolutely DELICIOUS. One last thing: the strawberries were a bad idea lol.
