Help us get to 400+ likes & 35K subs! Mets fans, what’s YOUR thoughts on what’s been nothing short of a disaster of an offseason for Scott Boras & Pete Alonso
How frustrated? Well, Tyler you were 100% right on when in November you warned us that signing Alonso would drag late through January even February. So, given I trust your reporting....I have been taking it all in stride!
True but that's completely old news he thought he was big super star like 5 tool player he's 1 tool homeruns and scooping short hops that's it may be 2 tools lol 😆 different story after boras and last yr production or lack off
Mets offered Pete a contract and his old agent told him to sign that deal. Pete called Boras and said if he can do better. Boras said of course I can. Pete fired his old agent and now he's screwed. Pete Alonso is a grown ass man he shoveled his own grave.
So damn true, remember when he won the Home Run Derby, he declared that he was best power hitter in baseball! Meanwhile he forgets the small village that he's been leaving on the bases.
Here's some perspective. The average American works decades to retire in their 60's with an average of $400,000 in savings. Pete is turning up his nose at $60 million for playing a game for 3 years. Let that sink in before you start feeling sorry for the poor dude.
EXACTLY!!! And remember, he turned down a huge contract offer because he got greedy! So Scott Boras isn't to blame here... Boras can hype player's values but he can't make team organizations sign his clients... nuff said.
Not relevant enough to the point of the convo here. Alonso is just another client who’s falling in the same fate as many previous Boras ones, and it’s all thanks to how boras plays and waits on the market. Watch the video, because you’d know I called out Pete for his parts in this
I love to have Alonso be a met for his attire career. At the moment it's not looking good. I 100% with everything you said. And if they can't look him up maybe it's time to look younger with pop.
He try to use the fans cause pete is a fan favorite and used the fact that mets owner has billion and they trying to get him to over pay and guess what they won't and pete market is a joke right now so he needs to stop playing and take the deal and opt out n try again
@@aguzman222 Because if you really want the player, the you settle for the player, especially since he’s a home grown player. I think both sides would be happy
We want the player at our price, not more than that like your suggesting. We could go lower and he’ll have to settle for that. Nobody is going to offer a Met player more than we will offer them. He has no choice.
@jayjayfrmstatefarm9363 1b and Cf Apples and oranges cannot compare nimmo contract back then to Alonso and 1b market now it's way lower for 1b Pete one dimensional player nimmo not lol 😆 😀
@@michaelcassara2880 not comparing anything. Simply stating Pete thought he would get a bigger contract than Nimmo. Boras negotiated Nimmo contract, Pete turns down 158M then hires Boras. That isn’t a coincidence. At the time Nimmo got his contract he was never an all star, never hit 20 HRs in a season, never drove in 70 RBIs in a season. Pete undoubtedly thought he would do better than Nimmo 162M in free agency. Pete should have took the extension, he got way too greedy now is paying the price big time. Can’t say “I want to be a Met” then turn down every single contract offer holding out for more money. This is entirely on Pete, which sucks for him.
Asking for opt outs after year two shows he doesn't believe in himself to be that dude. Im sorry but no way the Mets should do that. That directly would also take them out of possibily signing Vlad. That's not good business. A mutual opt out with terms that benefit both parties I hope the Mets do if they go that route
You've pretty much summed up my thoughts exactly. And it's only a matter of time (and careers) that the Boras Group collapses. That said, I want to stress two important factors that nobody is talking about, but are foundational in this situation. 1. Pete Alonso is not the sharpest pencil in the box. 2. Scott Boras is driven entirely by greed.
Just saw a video that did the math and if we signed pete at 30m right now it would cost the mets 60m due to luxury taxes. No matter how rich he is, I cant fault cohen for not paying 60m for one 2.5 war player.
In 2022 Kyle Schwarber signed a 4 year $79M contract. Stats are comparable. Schwarber is one year older that Pete. If I were Pete i would sign a three year/$75M contract with no opt outs. Metsies could sweetin the deal with incentives for less than 100Ks/per year, graduated bonuses for 50, 60, 70 hrs, 130,140,150 rbis etc. After signing I would immediately FIRE Boris. LFGM!
It is still crazy to me that there are Met fans who think the Mets screwed over Pete because of his postseason heroics and the fact he is a homegrown player. They are just as delusional as Pete who thought he was worth more than he actually is.
The Mets offered Alonso 168 million for 7 years & Alonso didn’t accept it. Then this off season the Mets offered Pete the most again & people are getting on the Mets for what, that they didn’t offer him a ton more & there wrong to do that. That’s nonsense
The sad story is, Boris has been the guy to get it done for some of the games best for a long time, however just like every dog has his day, it is time for Boris to ride off into the sunset. The game has changed and he hasn’t changed with it! I speak as an aging mets fan who also isn’t conforming to today’s game!
Where did you get the Grimmace plush behind you? I have been looking for one since that took off and havent been able to find one. Also, where did you get that shirt lol.
Pete would hit like 25-30 home runs and his long term value would be destroyed if he signs in San Francisco. Oracle Park's left field zaps away the power of right handed hitters. See Jorge Soler in San Francisco.
The only thing I’ll say is I can see Pete saying to the Mets you gave Nimmo being 30 an 8yr/162 and you can do it for me. Well Pete we did and you turned it down
He did the same to Harvey. I was annoyed that they didn't bring him back. But then I thought about the Orioles and Chris Davis. If Alonso loses his home run power then what?
The Mets offered Alonso seven years for 158 million. If he really wanted to stay on the team he would've taken that. But now he's pretty much screwed like Conforto was
Take a look at the picture of Pete shirtless. Guy has a 48 year old dad bod. I’m not investing a bunch of $ in a guy that doesn’t take his own fitness seriously.
You did acknowledge that Pete is not innocent in all of this but I still think you're giving him too much of a pass on this one. It is the agent's job to advise the client but at the end of the day, Scott Boras works for Pete Alonso, not the other way around. It may have have blown up in his face at times but Boras has made a living out of these negotiation tactics. Everyone knows he uses these tactics, we as fans know he is going to use these tactics so Pete and anyone who chooses to use him for representation should damn well know that he's going to use these tactics. If Pete truly wants to be with the Mets, he needs to take ownership of this situation it is long long long past due.
It goes without saying that Alonzo did not even come close to playing up to his presumed potential. During the season, I sensed that there was something about his situation that made me think he had something more going on either physically, emotionally, or things like that. I have been surprised of the minimal interest in Alonso. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but it sure seems like there's something going on with him that's not being reported on.
I agree with everything you said, I just felt he deserved a bit more than 68-70 because a pitcher like Manea who got 3 yrs 75 million who plays once a week was offered more than our biggest power threat who plays everyday even when injured. I would have gone up another 10 million but less than 90 because he doesn’t have a market
The only time Boras has impressive contracts are from players who can basically get a contract completed from a random person on the street (Ex. Soto, Snell). Any mid level player where he needs to put work and it's almost a guarantee that player gets screwed.
At this point I think Alonso/Boras should look to see if the Mets would give him 1 year at 32million. No referrals. That would set the record for 1B AAV and let’s Alonso hit the market next year with no QO offer attached.
The Jays should go get both Santander and Alonso and go for it in 2025 before Vladdy and Bo go FA next year. These two can add a total of 80 or so hrs. And they can be had for relatively short term deals.
Plain and simple Owners are tired of Boras. The reality is that Boras did absolutely nothing for Soto. Soto would have gotten tons of money without Boras and that’s a fact. It's a clear case of market demand. No team is willing to pay Pete Alonso what he and Boras wants. Pete can be back with the Mets tomorrow if he lowers his expectations. It's a clear case of market demand. No team is willing to pay Pete Alonso what he and Boras wants. Pete can be back with the Mets tomorrow if he lowers his expectations. You can blame Boras but Pete has not received a single offer. Why in the world would David Sterns up his offer, for what ever it is, if no other offer is on the table?
