    Have you thought about finding old issues of Vogue or similar magazines and recreating the looks featured? Might be a fun series

    Your make-up looks 100% genuine vintage, which I find impressive. Usually when people attempt this look it still looks too modern somehow.
    Love the hair too :)

      She used a hot curler. This was not an authentic flip. Coul have used a roller wet sets

    My aunt did this style in the late sixties and she rolled her hair on orange juice cans...yes, orange juice cans! Then she would tease the daylights out of it to get as high as she could! I miss those days!

    You can also lift it with a rat tail comb. I’m 76 and wore the flip a lot! But my hair was middle of the neck length. It’s been long since I married at 18.

    Came your vid. Awww..... Reminds of one my first earliest memories! I remember seeing my then way younger aunt at my grandmas' house brushing her hair like that at her vanity table in the morning while getting ready for work.

    Cute hair flip! I love how this looked on you! One thing though - with 60s hair flips, height is everything! And I feel this was a little too flat at the crown. My mom and my aunt lived through this era. They told me they used to roll up a sock to place underneath their backcombing on top of their heads. Lol

    Thank you for this. I'm holding a 60s party in December and will do this to my hair, but turning the ends under instead of out, like Cilla Black used to have hers. :)

    During the 1990’s, the ‘60’s flip was such a popular style back then. I love the flip style, because you can do it with your hair down, half updo and ponytail. It’s a classic style that never goes out of style.

    Actually, in west Texas in the sixties, we had the flip, and the Bubble was full and curled under at the ends. We called it Page Boy too, if it was curled under on the ends.

      Use a roller wet sets and curling patters for flip hair. This will not give you the desired closest authentic look

  • @laurah6845
    @laurah6845 5 років тому +4

    To get a bubble flip with a little more height (without adding any height attachment on the crown), what you really need to do is an old fashioned wash and set with hair curlers/dippity-do styling gel, and then dry hair in a hair bonnet dryer before you do the back teasing and comb out. Electric curlers will work, too, but the wash and set is the gold standard for this hairstyle. A curling iron is not as effective for bubble flips because it won't hold the curl shape for this hairstyle as well as curlers will. You can still get curlers and hair bonnet dryers at beauty supply stores. There's also hair bonnet attachments you can use over a handheld hair dryer nozzle.

    • @versatyle253
      @versatyle253 5 років тому +1

      Yeah, but this seems to be more for the at-home DIY'er than someone who can afford to own that equipment, or someone who actually wants this hairstyle for a day.
      You are absolutely right about what you said, but that's not feasible for the average person who isn't made of money.

      @Kay2be2mr 7 років тому +1

      Anna Hutchinson still not quite as big and stiff as Laura Petrie. I have yet to see someone achieve that look exactly. Everytime I watch the Dick Van Dyke show all I can wonder is how much hair spray did they use on her hair everyday? They must have gone through a can every episode.

    Very cute! I always wondered what this do was called. When I cut my hair short, it tends to flip up naturally, so I end up basically doing this hairstyle until it's more grown out. I always wanted to try a more authentic '60s look when it is that short, so thanks for the pin tips!

    my hair does this naturally ever since i cut it short, i hated it and was trying everyday to get it to be straight or flip under. makes me feel a little better people used to do this on purpose, because no matter what i do it won’t stop flipping out!
