I actually grew up watching 'A Very Minty Christmas', and liked it. Minty was actually my favorite pony growing up, and I hope that she appears in G4 in the future.

To be fair, G4 kind of has the same problem. Besides them having the same hair style. Especially with the majority of the mares on this show:
The mane and tail styles though are far more distinct as are the color pallates. In addition the far more expressive animation helps a lot as well.
Right? Like, that's just a thing with all generations of My Little Pony: Same body type, same or similar faces, different colors and cutie marks. G3 was just following tradition at the time.

Without the past generations, Friendship is Magic wouldn’t have even existed, even G3 helped, by inventing characters that are now in G4, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy are named after G3 ponies.

The G3 ponies must have some sort of hive mind. That is the only explanation I can think of for how interchangeable these "characters" are.
Maple Samurai "Interchangeable" really? How is the silly, clumsy, goofball with a Heart of gold and OCD Minty interchangeable with the shy, soft spoken, nature-loving Wysteria? How is the motherly and mature Rainbow Dash anything like the rebellious, fun-loving, childish Rarity?
I guess you haven't actually watched the show outside of brony-hate reviews.
*@Flame Fox* I've seen the special myself on Netflix, the characters aren't well defined and are very bland. They have around 2 distinguishable character traits per character at the most.
FuturisticEggThief I can see where you are coming from, and I guess they could have done better at making them more defined, but as is, they had personalities that you could tell SOMEWHAT tell apart, although it was more subtle than FIM, most of them were still good characters. Pinkie Pie is kind of like her G4 counterpart, except more down-to-Earth and less hyper, and could even be a bit snarky at times. Rainbow Dash (BEFORE Core-7) was wise and motherly and mature. Wysteria was a lot like the Fluttershy we have now, except her gig was plants as opposed to animals. (She also didn't have panic attacks as severe as Fluttershy's, either.) Minty was clumsy, a goofball, a ditz, and she had some OCD as seen in this movie. Also seen in this movie is that she tries to fix her mistakes before anyone sees them and is like Applejack in that she doesn't wanna ask for help first. She actually gets the MOST characterization in this movie. Rarity was rebellious, fun-loving and didn't like to follow rules, also not understanding her role of responsibility, which stirs up conflict in her movie, The Runaway Rainbow. So they're not ALL interchangeable. Could they have had more defining traits? Some of them, yes. But as is, some of them do!
I do agree though that the characters aren't that interchangeable. If say Rainbow Dash and Minty changed roles, the story would go in a different direction then it did.

The family part at the end made me smile. Even the worst of life can make things better in hindsight. I definitely believe parents and their kids should watch something together without any discomfort. When I have kids, I will be there for them and watch stuff I grew up with that I loved at every age I have been. I am unsure if anything will get better in animation networks after things like Breadwinners and Sanjay and Craig and Toddler Titans, but I know that I will have classics to show them that are filled with stories, intelligent humor, character development, and love and effort put into them. I will not show them stuff like the aforementioned atrocities until they have common sense and are able to tell right from wrong. I am debating if I will show them anime at a young age but if I do, I would definitely be there to make sure they understand that certain things are not okay (like throwing knives and cursing).
Also that legal document was hilarious. I had to do a double take after the review because of how bizarre it was. 😆
Of course you can show them anime. :) There are TONS of series meant for little kids (everyone, really) and they're awesome, too. Heck, Pokemon and Yugioh are good places. Cardcaptor Sakura, Polar Bear Cafe, Angelic Layer, the more innocent Miyazaki films like Totoro, Chi's Sweet Home, Lovely Muuuuuuco, etc. There are, literally, tons of anime that are safe for kids. I highly recommend early exposure. It'll make the otaku transition much easier when they get older. ;) If you're worried about cursing and throwing sharp objects, then don't start them on Naruto (unless it's the crappy dub) till they're around 7.

Yeah, Inuyasha is a 12+ series. It was one of the first series I ever saw on Adult Swim WAY back in the day. But I was in my early twenties at the time. If you're ever curious if a series is kid friendly, watch it yourself first to get an idea.

Being used to G4 they just don't seem like ponies. I really enjoy that in FIM they try to make them more like actual equines with hoof use and bipedalism kept to a minimum. I really miss that this has been toned down so much as I really enjoyed it in Season 1 like with Spike using Twilight as a steed or Twilight flipping pages with her nose.
I am hoping that they do a little more with them being horses like they did in "dog and pony show".
G3 (at least pre G3.5) had them physically resemble Ponies more while G4 has more ponylike behaviours

I vividly remember watching this movie and other gen 3 movies when I was little. It seems more terrifying now.
