Jared Leto's got a great voice... No doubt about that! He can emote, soar and grit it up with the best of them.
In this video, I begin a new series that pairs amazing vocal performances with top notch recording and production. The sounds we have grown to love from our favorite vocalists are always a perfect blend of the art of singing and the meticulous sound crafting that happens during the recording and mixing process.
As I study and demonstrate the use of effects and mixing techniques, I also show how the song and vocal performance are built to sweep us off our feet and create amazing musical memories.
Let Jared Leto and Thirty Seconds To Mars inspire you in your own singing and recording aspirations by learning how they get their sound!
I know 30 Seconds To Mars is very successful, but I honestly think that Jared Leto is underrated as far as how good of a singer he is. His highs are so natural! Thanks for this breakdown, Chris!
Jared Leto has very distinctive voice. One note from him and you automatically know its him. Great job!
I've been waiting for this one. Jared's voice is so unique.
True. But I can't wait to see people commenting "It's Morbin Time".
Chris Liepe: It's mixin' time!
It's Liepin' time!
YOU sound great singing this, Chris.
Thanks!!
Old 30 Seconds to Mars has some great songs, can’t help but feel his voice is wasted with such little music and the kind of music they’re putting out now. The Kill has some of the best singing I’ve heard.
Your content is criminally underrated it is not even funny
:)
This album has the best male vocal work ive heard in my entire life. Thank you for this
I’ve always loved the vocals that the guys from Emery pull off. From Devin’s high, belt tone to Tobey’s thicker, smoother sounds, to their haunting and aggressive screaming. Would love to know more about how to achieve that versatility.
please publicate that cover on yt!!!! i just fell in love with that
Omg let’s fkn go. Jared during this era of Thirty Seconds to Mars is unrivalled.
It's pretty astounding how similar you sound/can sound to Jared 🤘
Dude this is an incredible breakdown. The transparency and explanation behind your interpretation is fantastic.
Much appreciated!
Bro yours and Jared's mixed tone is so similar I had a hard time figuring out when it was you singing vs him 😂 also I had no idea Jared Leto was a singer! He should stick to this cuz he's way better at singing than he is at acting 👀
Would love to see one on marilyn manson
Absolutely same!
Another great video Chris, thanks!! I love it when you talk about both the singing itself and the production tricks. Keep up the great work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
wow, this works really great with your voice
The ‘in defence of our dreams’ harmony always makes the hairs on my neck stand up. Jared is so underrated- I have always though he had a gorgeous tone and distinctive voice. Nice video :)
I like this series! I hope you do one with Taka from One Ok Rock!
I finally understand why you are so into always starting with head voice. The full mixed voice sounds like chest, but feels like falsetto. Head voice develops from a strengthened falsetto, not chest voice.
jared's voice and his vocalizations changed drastically after 2007 . dont know the reason. but if u wanna hear the best version of jareds voice u have to only look into the 2005 album...
Great video bringing out how Jared Leto gets his distinct sound vocally and the audio settings too. Great insight and Introspection on how you can place in your own voice.
Can you do another one focusin' on his yelling and screaming, like on "This is War" or "From Yesterday"?
Great idea! We'll see how this one does... I'll prolly try to diversify the artists here out of the gate... but I do cover some of his yelling and screaming in my "How To Sing Like Jared Leto" video I did last year. You can find that in my "in the style of" playlist :)
@@chrisliepe oh, I think I lost that one. I will surely check it, thank you 🙏
So helpful and professional as ever! 🙏 thanks for what you’re doing, Chris!
Wow! Great tips on how to do harmonies... I'm going to try it soon!
This guy is the best on youtube hands down!
Great job Chris!
Yess! Been looking forward to this since the community poll 😃
You did great Chris.
Wow Chris, amazing dude!
Thank you very much for your videos! Everything is as clear as possible) Excellent presentation of the material)
Great video man! Jared is hands down my favorite vocalist.
Love this!!!! Thank you Chris!
Loved watching this! Thanks so much for the tutorial.
This is Great . Thanks Chris.
Would love to see more content like this.
Klasse, Chris. Beste Grüße aus Thuringa Germany 👋
this is so incredibly helpful! thank you!
Incredible as always. Thank you.
Chris I know I’ve asked this before but I’d love it so much if you’d cover John. Cooper from Skillet! He’s an amazing, but underrated, singer!! Great range, grit, screams, tone, production. And him and Jen sing some cool duets in their catalogue.
Yes please!
He used to be a decent vocalist. Now he sounds like he smokes 10 packs a day.
@@lisalegato0109 saw them live at nova rock and I was confused because live sounded not good at all ^^
I was just searching yesterday how to get this vocal sound and then it popped up. Great timing!
This was awesome! Thanks Chris!
Love this type of Content Chris!
Aweome Chris! Sounds so similar. I want to get the voice so i could do a cover. Thanks!
Incredibly valuable video Chris! Both for your performance and the production tips! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Omg. I felt so many emotions. You gave me tears in my eyes Chris😅
morbin' that sound
love this lesson!
Jared voice is absolutly unique❤
Dear Chris, thanks a lot for such an incredible video! I‘be been looking for such vocal production tutorials on UA-cam for a long time, but mostly they were too basic without the particular guides and examples.
Great work! It helps me to move forward.
Thanks a lot for it!
P.S. please do Nothing But Thieves vocal production video next
You nailed it
Great job! really helpful Chris
Thank you for this lesson! The coolest unpacking ever! 🤘💥🤘
Nailed it
When Chris drops some knowledge it's a great day 👍👍
This was awesome.
Awesome, thanks for this Chris. Would love some more 30 STM stuff.
More to come!
@@chrisliepe Exciting. Thanks for all you do.
@@chrisliepe Yes super exciting! Hope its their older stuff too!
This is awesome. Something I've been waiting for. I really appreciate your analysis and work. I'd also like to see analysis of James Bay vocal, especially Hold Back The River
This is brilliant. And I really needed this.
Did you just wanna come over to my house. 🙄
Checking out your Friday videos becomes sort of a ritual :) Thanks again!
hehe.. that's nice to hear :) !!
That was awesome to watch man! It’s funny I know the guy that mixed that record and I think I get more out of your videos and I did when he told me about it 😂
Chris telling us why he is the GOAT
Never got into 30stm but i can see the appeal. Very unique sound all around. Any chance you could take a look at the song "hey man nice shot" from the band Filter? He does these really crazy screams in the chorus that remind me of maynard from tool. Keep up the great work chris
You are such a G for doing this tutorial bro! I love how I can UA-cam how to sound like Jared Leto in Logic and poof, here it is 😎
Haha... THANK YOU for watching! And thank you google!
Great video!
You nailed it.
Can you please tell us a little bit about your gear?
Did you record with the lewitt 540 S or is it the 440 Pure?
And what about your audiointerface?
Good.
Thank you. I have been changing the tempo by detecting it with alt, cmd + T and then SMPTE locking everything (just in case) and then changing the project tempo. I didn't know about Smart tempo other than changing it in the control bar when you drag an audio file into the project.
You're welcome!
Great job on this. Your style and Jared’s are very similar.
mindblowing😉
Any chance you do a video about Tony Kakko from Sonata Arctica, btw? A video about "Don't say a word" or "shamandalie" would be great I think :)
Great video and lesson Chris!! Please do one for “From Yesterday” by Thirty Seconds to Mars. Always wanted to understand more about his approach in this song and also the vocal production
Check out my "How to Sing Like Jared Leto" video... I cover part of that song in that video ! :)
Would love to get a voice analysis of Mathew tuck, Bullet For My Valentine. Your Betrayal but just about any song he does any screams works. Love your work Chris Liepe
Matt Donnelly from Don Broco sounds similar to Jared Voice sometimes.
IT'S MORBIN TIME
Hey Chris, where did you go to access or purchase the actual backing tracks/stems for Thirty Seconds To Mars? Or even where to get them for other bands songs?
Love this content, can we get a Seether "pride" deconstruction? Shawn's vocal is a masterclass of aggression and strenth in that song!
It’s Morbin time
You nailed it man, crazy!
Would love to see a reaction and a breakdown from Paolo Nutini Iron Sky (Abbey Road). I've never heard of anything like that, that's why I'd be so interested in your explanation! 😌
Lynn Gunn from PVRIS!
Great learning videos from you sir. Keep it up! You should also check Franky Perez; amazing vocalist too 🤘🏻
How to sing like Jared Leto: step one: have talent. Got it
🔥🔥🤟
Would have much preferred something off of their first, maybe second album, but his voice is phenomenal either way
I have a voice live play, that gives a multitude of effects while singing live. Does your program allow for that? I hope it does. Or can that patch somehow be loaded into my TC Helicon Voice-live play 3?
You are absolutely amazing Bro. I love everything I have seen from you. Would you please critique ‘Black Sabbath’z Sabotage album’ with “Ozzy Osbourne???” I am interested to see what you think of his high notez on this album. Maybe if you would compare some of this to Ozzy’z other Black Sabbath music or his music as a Solo Artist (your choice.) Even the song ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’ (from the ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’ album) although a little pitchy at pointz towardz the end of the song is sung in a high range. Of course back in those dayz they basically just recorded live. I love the dramatic feeling of Ozzy’z voice. It’z Theatrical with feeling. Love or hate it… all Artistz have fanz for a reason. It movez them & takez them to a place that they enjoy the feeling & the ride getting there. I have been a huge fan of Ozzy for yearz. People love for me to sing Ozzy’z music. I am so glad I found you. I am a HUGE FAN of yourz. Thank you so much for everything. You ROCK!!!
🤘😎🤘
but damn is that an invincta because the watch MM is nuts haha.
Amazing vid as always. Any Brandon Boyd or Cedric Bixler Zavala coming up?
Quite possibly! Great ideas!
@@chrisliepe Cedric has such a high register, it would be amazing to see what you do with it
It’s morbin time
Chris, need your advice
Rode NT1000 or SE 2200?
I dont have a lot of money for super expensive microphone. Need mic ror male vocal. Alternative and sometimes pop genre. 🙏🙏🙏
God you help me so much
Steve Cobucci of Wolves at the Gate
Great video! Thanks!
Jared Leto's voice is so beautiful.
I love the small vibrattos of this song.
I think he uses diaphragm and head - chest voice What do you think?
And I think he compresses the voice in the throat. Am I right?
Thanks and regards.
I totally agree!
@@chrisliepe Thanks, mate!
🔥
Is that a Lewitt LCT 440 Pure that you're using?
Holy Shit!
I was listening to 30STM - Battle Of One
literally today driving my wife to work thinking that song would be PERFECT for you to disect! It has everything in it that he can do!
Do you have that track?
I'd love your opinion on the entire song if you could do it!
btw, god damn you can sing!
I don't have the stems for that one. But I can look! Glad you enjoyed the breakdown!
@@chrisliepe Your breakdowns are amazing as always.
Thank you for looking! It's not a popular track as it's one of their harder songs, if not the hardest song. But his vocal performance is full ranged in it.
Step Two: Embody Sisyphus pushing that goddamn rock up that goddamn hill for the 7,000th time. "Desperation" is a great adjective you used for the way he embellishes his phrasing.
Hello! New on here! Isn't it the same distinctive sound of Bono from U2?
Very much so! But with a bit more oomph !! I've always thought that Jared is eerily similar to Bono!
Crobot - low life , pleasee
john feldmann produced all my favorite bands
Step One: Be one hell of a tenor.

I think everyone secretly wants you to dissect an Eminem song 🤭 ✔️😁👌🤞
