I never realized how badass Scorch as a Callsign sounds. Also I know I’m still watching but damn 10 sorties and you are already on the second on the Kill list. You are good. It’s pretty interesting to see this is what Chris Roberts made along with other games before Star Citizen.
Thanks. I was kind of sloppy in this playthrough, but managed to improve the score in the DOS version. Partially thanks to the slowdowns, when alot of stuff was on the screen during the hectic moments.
@@Scorch0017 , mine was actually Bunny. People laughed at such a cute and girly call sign, as well as the cute Japanese anime/manga type decal that came with it, but they learned to not laugh at it when it got over 1,000 kills, including big space craft, and even space stations, as well, and that also includes the expansions to this game. Basically, THIS Bunny made the one from Monty Python and the Holy Grail look nice in comparison. Whenever I saw a red dot on the map, then I would be after it like Wyatt Earp was after a red sash wearing criminal. I had so much metal on my uniform that I could literally melt it all and make a reasonably sized satellite dish.
19:26 Debriefing at 00h17: "Scorch, I want to see you in my office in a couple of hours." Colonel Halcyon's office at 16h50: "Scorch, I said a couple of hours, not 16 hours!" 😅
Debriefing at 00h17: "I want to see you in my office later, Scorch. I don't specify in how many hours anymore since you obviously don't know how to read a clock. Dismissed." 😁
This game left such a strong impression on me back in the day. It felt so epic and cinematic compared to its contemporaries. Makes me want to go back and play through Privateer.
There's a bit of dialogue that's been skipped at 21:02 in the video. The dialogue should read, "I want you in a Scimitar-class medium fighter with Blue Devil Squadron". This dialogue applies to all versions of this game.
It's clickable in the Windows re-release of the game, which I palyed here, and in the Secret Missions 2, if we talking about DOS version.

"Scorch" ...Very interesting callsign. Wouldn't be from RING RAIDERS, would it? They *did* have some good ones for the villains (Wraith, Blackjack, Mako, Siren, Cutthroat, Six-Gun). P.S. When I was playing this game years ago, I didn't have a list of callsigns/pilot names from TOP GUN. So I used a bunch of names taken from THE WARRIORS (Ajax, Cochise, Fox, Cowboy, Rembrandt, Swan, Vermin, Bopper, Moonrunner, Orphan, Punk, and the like).
That's the character from Republic Commando. I start playing multiplayer games around that time and chose "Scorch" as a username, because it was short, memorable, but at the same time not overused by the online crowd.
The music of this is pretty good. Where can I get this version of the game? I came from the SNES version and could never get into the audio for the original. This sounds really great, cozy even. Is it available anywhere?
Hey Scorch, hope you're doing well. c: I downloaded that zip with the already patched wcdx version of the game. It works great! Very playable and smooth, but there's only one problem (if you can call it that lol) but I seem to be invulnerable at all times? I haven't taken a scratch throughout most of the game. I thought I was just really good but turns out I just can't die lol. Is there a way to fix that? Not sure why that's on by default.
@@Spr1ggan87 because this is not version for DOS. In 1996 Origin released the Kilrathi Saga anthology, consisted of the first three games, which were updated to run under Windows 95 and DirectX. To run them on modern OS you need WCDX patch for WC1&2 and dgVoodoo 2 with wc3_ksaga_patch_ v1.2 for WC3.
@@Scorch0017 No issues installing the Kilrathi Saga version of WC1? I was about to do it but in the readme it says that it can brick modern PCs but getting them stuck in an endless loop of trying to install DX2.
@@Spr1ggan87 I had no problems with WC3 setup. As for the first two games, you don't need to install them to run through WCDX patch, just copy WC1 and WC2 folders directly from the CD image. You should consult with the WCDX readme section on github.
2:46, on the SNES/NSFC versions of the game, the ranks and last names are not mentioned on the Kill Board, rather, it's just the call signs of the pilots. Moreover, it's not implied in that version of the game that you're Blair, but, rather, you're just a generic pilot. Honestly, I prefer those changes in the SNES/NSFC versions of the game as opposed to the way that things are done on the Windows and MS-DOS versions of the game.

How'd you get that to run THIS smoothly ?
