Its the way how to brainwash society by television, to buy more and more gifts.
While most normal people don't care about expensive gifts but care more about making the relationship work and not make companies rich.
Some guy did Ted talk about American culture, that they spend so much money on stuff that they need 3 times bigger houses for the stuff..... why in reality do they don't need so much stuff... It's just a marketing strategy to brainwash society to buy more stuff.
