    Thanks for this. I'm doing that crossing in May so it's good to see that train + ferry (starting London) is defo the smarter choice than flying.

      ...well....this ferry (Color Fantasy) and it's sister ship Color Magic are the two largest ferries in the world. The Oslo - Kiel route has existed for "only" 60 years.....!!!! It is a ferry going every day ....year around....

      Yep, the biggest ferries/ car ferries / cruise ferries in the world, when we compare sise and weight. The biggest when it comes to number of passengers is the biggest Staten Island ferry. Color Fantasy has been the longest ferry in the world, longer than anny other has been the longest. Color fantasy is a few tonns heavyer but the dimentions are the same.

    A superb video! Color Fantasy seems to be constructed along the lines of Silja Serenade and Symphony, also built in Finland but a decade earlier and still on the line Stockholm-Helsinki.

    As the story was told to me, these ferries with their atriums and inside promenades, were inspiration to RCI to build bigger on the larger ships the Royal Promenade and the aft facing dining rooms. All that open interior space within the ferry worked very well on the later RCI ships. All the way towards the Oasis Class ships and the Wonder too.

      yep silja symphonys anf serenades designer Harri Kulovaara was hired by RCI to design voyager class and later oasid class.

    The sister ship Color Magic is slightly bigger and the largest ferry in the world in terms of gross tonnage at 75,156 gross tonnage. This one is slightly less at 74,027 gross tonnage. They are both 223.70 meters long

    The ferry terminal at Kiel couldn't be nearer to the centre. Different from many places where if you insist on not taking a car, you have to take all sorts of complicated routes involving buses and a great deal of walking

    Very happy to see that you are once again active on UA-cam. Last september I traveled from Patras to Venice with ANEK Lines. Not good neither bad experience. I'm very interested how a movieclip of yours would look like. There are a lot of videos on this theme, but never from people who travel on foot or, in my case, by train.

    Negative side first; Oslo is NOT on the Baltic.... Otherwise, nice video, if somewhat more superficial than others on UA-cam.

    • @Dan-fo9dk
      @Dan-fo9dk Рік тому +1

      ....and where in the video was Oslo claimed to be "on the Baltic". ????
      At 2:40 it says "...head to the Baltic" when departing out of Kiel .....which happens to be located at the Baltic Sea....

    • @erikga46
      @erikga46 Рік тому

      @@Dan-fo9dk Wow, finally somebody even more pedantic than myself... Technically you are correct; for a very brief period of time, the route crosses the EXTREME southwestern arm of the Baltic, before entering the Danish Straits, the Kattegat, the Skagerrak and the the Oslo Fjord. The statement “head to the Baltic” without further qualification, implies to the uninitiated. that this is a Baltic route, and by implication, that Oslo is on the Baltic Sea. Whilst you are technically correct, when exiting the Kierförde, the route crosses the Baltic for an hour or two.
      However, in common usage(correct or not), most reasonable people will consider the Baltic to be the body of water EAST of a line due south of the southernmost point of Sweden and that the Color Fantasy, when exiting the Kielerförde, de facto enters the Danish Straits.

    • @Dan-fo9dk
      @Dan-fo9dk Рік тому

      @@erikga46 Sometimes can YT be a bit entertaining and show up different sorts of weird shit ....and you contribute to that impression. One can ask if you always go around correcting people for things they haven't said or done...???? Not only do you completely miss the target you're shooting at ....there are no target to shoot at.... Then when you haven't anything to justify your own actions you simply resort to the trade of a drama queen by stirring up some fog and blaming the messenger. So thank you for your pathetic little performance. No I'm not into being pedantic.....rather just being more knowledgeable and pay a bit more attention to what is said instead of cooking up weird conclusions as you do.
      There is nothing "technically" to that the body of water in matter is the Baltic Sea
      Kiel is located at the Baltic Sea ....period.... I can inform you that the Color Line ferry use the "very brief" moment of 3 hours to cross that area.
      .....and just in order to help you I have found another city which you can add to your list of "not at the Baltic"....and that is Tokyo ....what about that....

    • @erikga46
      @erikga46 Рік тому

      @@Dan-fo9dk I do not know how to reply to this rambling, incoherent and foul-mouthed reply. I must have touched a nerve. “Weird shit” “justify my own actions” What are you talking about?? I gracefully conceded that you were right, after exiting the Kierförde, the route does indeed cross an arm of the Baltic.
      However, my contention was, and is, - that the unqualified statement “head to the Baltic” is prone to mislead some people that this is purely a Baltic route.
      Oslo is my home town and I can tell you that a whole bunch of people in the world do not where Oslo is situated. So I simply wanted to correct what could lead some people to misunderstand the location of the city I live in. And you call that “weird shit” Aren’t you overreacting just a little bit..?..
      Most people will contend that “the Baltic” will refer to the main area of that body of water which is between Sweden and the Baltic countries. I am sure you do agree that the route is nowhere near that body of water.
      Furthermore, I tried to be polite and use civilised language in my opinion of the video. That effort was obviously totally lost on you.
