    Love my MK2i and my son and I being able to monitor each other's pressures but the MK3 has now become the new object of desire - subwave sonar-based diver messaging, how cool is that 😃 and now adding depth metrics to what you can monitor on your buddies

    what a beast. would like to get one and shift my mk2i to backup for it. actually what Garmin ought to do is after each dive, send sufficient info to the dive app such that if the primary computer crashes, one could shift to a backup garmin and just grab the surface interval, etc, info from the app so that the backup could be used fully without having to have used it on the previous dives. if you talk with them, please suggest that. thanks for all your videos, love them.

    James! Thanks for the share. I love your clear cut reviews and topical videos.
    It just so happens that I’ve had a run in with my legendary Suunto integrated Cobra who’s depth sensor passed on unexpectedly on my last diving weekend (3-4 weeks back).
    During those 4 open water recreational dives it misteriously registered my dives at depths ranging from 51-71m. Thankfully my old D4 (Suunto) wrist dive computer, that I still wear as a backup, gave me accurate readings between 12-17m.
    Just imagine the numbing sensation I experienced knowing I’m around 12m deep and my mind cognitively registering the impossible depth reading on my Cobra of around 51m during the initial stages of my first dive of the series!
    Talk about cognitive dissonance…
    Well in reality, my mind raced to calculate various risks, as I was diving on 32% Nitrox!
    Guess what? The Suunto agent could not repair, but offered me an upgrade option to a Cobra Black unit? When I enquired about the warranty on the potential upgrade option, the agent informed me that the depth sensor only comes with a 3 month warranty. Which if needed to be repaired would have to be shipped to Sweden (I’m down south in South Africa).
    Makes me smile that up until today you will find the following slogan on their main website:
    “We don’t believe in luck, we believe that for over 80 years we have created products that will never let you down.”
    Any event, this review of yours has me seriously considering switching brand, so thanks a million. 🙏🏻

      Yeah, I've seen plenty of computers displaying 60M+ depths while sat on my desk in the office. And disassembling the computer to replace a pressure sensor cost more time and effort than upselling to a new computer

    • @ScubaDiverMagazine
      @ScubaDiverMagazine  10 місяців тому +3

      Smart-Watches are undoubtably rising in popularity. Shearwater has a strong following in the diving community but, they need to do a lot of work, or pair up with another brand, to make something with all of the surface features.
      I was always surprised that Suunto Dive tech was always isolated from their hiking & sports watches and didn't share some of their surface features.

      Shearwater no doubt is anchored itself in diving world, and i love mine.

    I’m really impressed with the updates. Two of the things that I think the MK2i was missing, the 200m depth rating and the AMOLED screen. The flashlight is a great touch too, I use that so much on my Tactix 7pro. It also looks like the Mk3i is based on the lastest AMOLED Tactix with the night vision, Applied Ballistics (at extra cost). The cost however is massive, just over £2000 for the titanium strap and transmitter package.

    • @MrNeobuxer
      @MrNeobuxer 10 місяців тому

      AMOLED is fantastic, but why would you need 200m rating for?

    • @MarkN67
      @MarkN67 10 місяців тому +2

      @@MrNeobuxerthe standard for dive instruments is 200m for ISO 6425 or DIN8306. Also, I have an advanced Trimix certification meaning that I can dive to 100m on open circuit, if I do so, I need to trust my kit and not be worrying about anything failing.

    • @MrNeobuxer
      @MrNeobuxer 10 місяців тому +2

      @@MarkN67 ISO 6425 starts at 100m or more and just because something is rated to 200m doesn't mean it's neccesarily ISO 6425 certified. I am also advtrimix certified, which makes me want to ask if you would actually use Garmin for a 100m dive? and do you think Garmin is actually targeting the 0.001% of divers like us? :D

    • @MarkN67
      @MarkN67 10 місяців тому +1

      @@MrNeobuxer I used the MK2i on a 75m dive as a back up to my Perdix and it was fine. I didn’t like the screen on the MK2i and sold it to buy a Teric, which has an AMOLED display. I’m really happy with my Shearwater computers as they are made as dive computers. The Garmin is a great product, I would be very interested in the MK3i as I already use a Garmin Tactix 7 and just taking one watch on a dive holiday appeals to me.
      Are they made for tec’ divers? Maybe not, but I’d like one. The depth rating is nice to have and provides peace of mind, I wouldn’t buy a dive watch without being rated to at least 200m.
      Personally I think Garmin have listened to the dive community and developed this Descent into a very good piece of kit that will happily stand up against the likes of Shearwater etc.

    I love my Mk2. And i was sold when I saw how much the Apple Ultra was. It is expensive but it's replacing my old apple watch at the same time so when you consider a good dive comp + a smart watch, you end up at around the same price. I love the battery life of it and that I can just charge it. No need to open the watch the change the battery and risk a leak. I use it for hiking, running and swimming. when you look at the price - you're basically getting an Epix Pro Sapphire (which are, depending on model, $1000- although on sale at the moment), plus a dive computer. so, it's really appropriately priced. #ASKMARK Hi Mark, I'm a Garmin fan and wearing Garmin Fenix in different versions for last 3 years as a multisport watch every day. However, I was waiting for Garmin Descent 3 for a long time as I believe it is an ultimate multisport+dive watch, and of course I'm now considering buying it but there is a dilemma. And dilemma is - is it better to have a separate multisport watch for every day activities (crossfit, swimming, running, skiing) and separate dive computer which in total costs as much as MK3i or simply buying mk3i. Is there any chance that every day use of sportwatch can influence work or accuracy of dive computer feature, mainly due to the fact that hitting sport watch during sport is quite usual. What's your opinion on this?

    I have the Mk1..as a running watch it is great. The watch's face visibility in daylight is awful. I dont know the watch's display type on the Mk3i. If it is the same as the Mk1 I would NOT BUY the Mk3i. The graphics in GARMIN watch advertisements do NOT represent the pixel display luminescence of the actual watch - in my case the Mk1. I really felt robbed when my watch came I could not read the time in strong sunlight. In other words GARMIN does a nice job advertising but the actual watch no where comes close to the 3D dept of color and contrast in company advertisements. Dont believe what you see on the GARMIN website. The display luminescence is one of the critical aspects of any dive sports activity watch - we know that since smartphones give us such great HD screen displays..
