Performed from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport in southwestern France, it marks the start of this next-generation oversize airlifter’s flight test and certification campaign. A company with a sense of humour deserves to go to the heights.
It’s not the just the fact they painted it to look like the beluga whale but they officially adopted the nickname for the XL.
The previous gen was originally called the Supertransporter. (Likely a tribute to the Super Guppy, for which the concept of the Beluga planes came from)

The issue is that planes will generally be full in terms of size ie. They can't fit any more boxes in, before they hit a weight limit.
So, for example, hauling aircraft fuselages, physically they are quite large, they take up a lot of space, but in terms of weight, it is an empty circle made out of low weight material.
More engines = more drag
They also carry stuff that doesnt fill up 100% of the space

Its great to see the company bigwigs went.... "Yeah this is too good not to do". with the cockpit jutting forward like a chin its impossible not to see a dolphin, then add in the body, it could only be one paint scheme.
I hope they keep it up, although I doubt they will not be making TOO many examples of this variant. maybe 20 air-frames tops.
What Aerobus did is took a plane, and made it into a world traveling ( be it shorter hops) piece of public art. How can you not smile when you see it.
On second watch , the paint scheme really does add an elegance to the planes appearance. I feel like it blends in the cargo extension and the very forward cockpit ( almost like a chin) into one nice overall package.

I once saw one from onboard a passenger aircraft, one of the original ones. Flying from The Netherlands to Alicante it crossed underneath us in the vicinity of Toulouse, it wasn't very close but impressive nonetheless.
I come from Bremen/ germany, where airbus produces wings. I think, at daytime, about every 4hours, a beluga started. They ascend relatively slow, so they flew very low over the town.

There’s a red line or red area which indicates the turn angle limit for the tow bar which the tug driver must never exceed. NO TOW is this is out of bounds zone when the driver is pushing and turning the aircraft. Standard on most airliners.

Because it serves the purpose it is designed to carry oversized aircraft components which take up a lot of space but aren't that heavy it has a payload capacity of about 50 tons and weighs not much roughly 127 tons compared to the B747 it which has payload capacity of about 227 tons and weighs roughly 220 tons.
