The dorsal fin helps them slip through the water more efficiently. ... Orca Live agrees that the fins help regulate a killer whale's body temperature: "Excess heat, generated as they swim along, is released into the surrounding water and air via the dorsal fin - much like a radiator!"
@@gzucc In adult males, the dorsal fin is tall and triangular reaching a height of up to 6 ft. In most females, the dorsal fin is slightly backward-curving and smaller - about 3 to 4 ft.
B A --- Lol!!! I happen to be an Animal Behaviour Specialist specialising in Orcas, dogs and birds..If there"s anyone who knows animals...it's Me!! Lol!! Especialy the 3 kinds I have mentioned above ! I know very well the rules and laws regarding these Beautiful Creatures!! And I also know that they LOVE human interactions, hence why they chose that specific spot on the beach to go scratch their bellies and also why they got that close to shore! The Northern Resident Orcas are not known for going that close to shore unlike the Patagonian and New Zealand Orcas...So this is a suuuper special and once in a lifetime moment for the people who witnessed this!!
+stephanie daigle you know they love human interaction, because you can talk to animals?? Are you sure you’re not just a Pokémon trainer? All it takes is one simple accident for these animals to seriously injure someone. Then all the work people have done to preserve their image will go out the window, just because “experts” like you want to be down with a group of wild animals.

Seriously this shows how smart these mammals are. They come here to have "spa day" .
They sure are smart.. They come up to the sides of boats to check out who is on the boat and what they are doing.. :) Thanks for watching.
Они учат своих малышей выбираться из мелководья:) Неимоверно высокоинтеллектуальные создания😍

maybe not a good idea to share the location?
beautiful video!
I subbed to you! This is an awesome video
Thank you so much... :)
OMG you all are so luck to have had that experience I on the other hand would've jumped right on in there and played with them they were so close to you :) please tell me where this was at so I can move there Orcas are my favorite ocean animal I'd give anything to study them and be around them all day such beautiful and smart animals thank you for sharing your incredible experience with all of us
You have to study marine biology first lol. It is illegal to swim with, feed, touch or otherwise harass cetaceans. Huge fines and jail time if you are found guilty. It is tempting to get closer and 'play with' them, but these are wild beings and it is better to be respectful and give them space.
wow awesome video and these guys are trying to make friends and there showing off
We are sure lucky to live here.. :)
Orca luffering their skin on the peppkes.
wait i love this so much 🥺🥺🥺
Thanks you so much! We are lucky to have them swim by here numerous times per year. :) Thanks for watching.

lol They show up every so often, but not on a regular schedule.. you are too funny.. and yes you can contact me through my email... There were some out in front of here this morning as well as 3 Humpback whales who were breaching throughout the day.. :) It is so nice to live here.

There is a pod that goes by here regularly now that has two with huge dorsal fins (5'-6')... seven in the group. Thanks for watching.. :)

niceprguy2 You Betcha!! 👍🏼
I never called Orcas killer whales! I’m glad you didn’t in your video title!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The dorsal fin on that male was Huge!! I probably would have had to run in for a quick touch .... or Not!! 😂
Way too cool! Lucky you! Congrats.! :-)
Thanks a lot.. Everyone loves Whales... ;)
Hoping to see some in early June at Deception pass or off of Whidbey Island.
you should see some.. :)
The bull is huge, look at the size of his dorsal fin , jeez . They all came in to scratch their bellies, and backs on the pebbles in the water. It's how they get rid of parasites
They just swam past Powell River again two weeks ago.. I managed to get some more footage.. Just have to edit it now. :)
@@niceprguy2 oh I wish I had the opportunity to see them in the wild like this . I won't pay to see them in an aquarium freak show . They all need to be free . On very rare occasions, we'll get a rogue humpback whale come into the bay here in NJ to feed. We had Beluga once , but it's very rare . I love Oracas their amazing animal's. I can't wait to see your new video
@@xoleenie12 Every once in a while we get to see them jumping out of the water.. :) ua-cam.com/video/oDU9XpzKD8s/v-deo.html

Where is this spot of land ??? Just incredible indeed !!! ❤️❤️❤️

what's the exact location. I will definitely visit Vancouver island since I live in Ontario.
It is not on Vancouver island and I promised the people of the island that I wouldn't disclose the exact location.. It is north of Powell River
Can you please tell me the location and the time of the year this took place? Absolutely beautiful and incredible video!
Thanks for watching.. Fisheries and Oceans Canada does not want the location revealed all I can tell you is that it is northof Powell River
Can you please tell me what time of the year this took place? My wife and I are wanting to visit the area and we want to be there when the weather is perfect for such an activity.

Are they like playing with the sand underwater because they keep coming over
They are rubbing themselves on the small pebbles on the bottom of th ocean.. Experts think it is like getting a massage.. :) and we all know massages are good.. :)

It is pretty cool.. I never get tired of seeing the Orca going by.. Thanks for watching!
Looks like they are teaching the cafes how to beach themselves
They are teaching the young ones how to rub themself's on the small round pebbles that make up the ocean bottom at this location. It must feel good to them. Thanks for watching. :)
This was pleasant.

What is the function of all of that dorsal fin?
The dorsal fin helps them slip through the water more efficiently. ... Orca Live agrees that the fins help regulate a killer whale's body temperature: "Excess heat, generated as they swim along, is released into the surrounding water and air via the dorsal fin - much like a radiator!"
@@niceprguy2 Thank you. What about the difference in size between adult male and female dorsal fins?
@@gzucc In adult males, the dorsal fin is tall and triangular reaching a height of up to 6 ft. In most females, the dorsal fin is slightly backward-curving and smaller - about 3 to 4 ft.
Just facinated with orcas. So intelligent
Maaaaan.lol.awesome awesome.
They are scratching themselves on the pebbles on the beach! I tootaly would have gone in to swim w rhem if I saw them that close!!
It would have been cool if the guys had some masks and fins.. I would have happily filmed them going in.. lol
stephanie daigle wild animals are not your friends. Respect them by keeping your distance and not exposing them to danger.
B A, I agree with you, some people just DON’T seem to understand the concept of “wild” anymore!
Wow!
It is pretty impressive when they swim past.. at least a few times a week
2015 na wala ka pang underwater camera?
it would have been nice to have one of those waterproof cameras for sure.. No one had one at that time though.
This a,rare treat for humsns...up close with a APEX creature, better than humans.
I think all animals are better thn humans. Thanks for watching...
So lucky! …………my dream!
We see Orcas here quite often along with Humpbacks, sealions, seals and dolphins
