The PS2 sold 1 million units on its first weekend in Japan. Just to put that into perspective, the Nintendo Switch only sold 330,000 units in the same region in its first weekend.
That is insane! As it stands right now Switch beat the PS2 in overall Japanese sales, but didn't beat the initial million units of its 1st weekend...wow! The PS5 is sorta selling well,, not a failure by any means, but it definitely isn't like it used to be, I hope PlayStation can reclaim the Japanese hearts and minds like it did back in the PS1, PS2 and PS3 days, whether that means getting more Japanese developers or my dream, bringing a new handheld to market.
Do you know if the memery card was inside the box of the console or we must buy it separately? If I had seen this commercial on TV the same year it was filmed, I would have started crying because no matter what I did, my father would not buy it for me because he was stingy and to avoid paying money.
So for the Japanese launch of the PS2 one memory card was included with every console because the codes to play DVD playback were inside the memory card. In other words for the initial Japanese units you couldn't play DVD movies without also inserting a memory card. That was corrected by the time the PS2 launch in America and Europe, so no memory card was included and had to be purchased separately, the Japanese ps2 was also later updated to play DVD without needing a memory card.
That smile at 2:28 . There's just such a magical experience as a gamer getting a new console you really want. I was giddy as a kid when I went to pick up my PS5 at Best Buy(I was lucky to get one the first couple weeks it came out). Same thing when I got my PS2 as a kid and my GameCube. Gamecube was probably my favorite - getting it with Smash Bros Melee. Then Sunshine/Wind Waker/Mario Golf Toadstool Tour/Mario Party 5. Final Fantasy X was a literal game changer. The leap in graphical fidelity was incredible. Then GTA - San Andreas was an ultimate banger. Loved playing me the Tiger Woods Games as well and Madden back when Madden was good.

The Playstation 2 era was freaking amazing!
And now everyone just orders from Amazon and gets it in the mail. I remember waiting in line for like 14 hours for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, great times.
Shit, these days I pre-order a game and get it before release date. I remember staying up to midnight to get a few games.
I still have the special bag they gave me at gamestop for waiting for the game

Seeing those shiny and brand new boxes put into those bags... Must have been amazing to live that kind of experience.
Gotta admit japan was pretty organized when it came to the release of PlayStation 2 no one going crazy and all the workers keeping their cool and making sure people go in an orderly fashion props to them
Wow, the Japanese were really kind and cooperative.. not starting a riot and organized very well!

Definitely another era, different players, another way of playing. People were really passionate and each game was appreciated for its true value. The PS2 was my entire childhood.❤

Back then when everyone could get a console!
Kids these days will never experience the true excitement of the beginning gaming consoles coming out
The PS2 sold 1 million units on its first weekend in Japan.

There's something magical about those playstation boxes. Gets me excited every damn time.

I remember getting one with my own money back in 2000
Una generación donde éramos felices y no lo sabíamos 😢❤️
That's Japan,It makes you feel that an ordinary people can live with dignity。
