Washington Section H (Bridge of the Gods to White Pass) is 148 miles.
August 6 - 11, 2021
A few days of rest at home left us feeling renewed and excited to get back on trail and into Washington. This section is a long one, and we were greeted with a lot of beauty and a lot of weather. The climb out of the gorge quickly reminded us that Oregon is pretty dang flat in comparison, and steep inclines and declines were our normal again. A couple of days through misty forest and persistent winds left us feeling cold and soggy, but a quick town stop in Trout Lake with some new hiker friends and yummy food remedied that situation.
We hit Adams wilderness and Goat Rocks wilderness the next few days, and wow was it incredible. I’m not sure what we did to deserve clear views while the rest of the area was wrecked by smoke from nearby fires, but we were grateful for it. Having completed these sections a couple years back, it was so fun getting to walk through again and reminisce about how far we have come.
That is an awesome section 👍
The trekking pole situation in episode 24 was hilarious 😂
Guys, your videos are just phenomenal. The photography, choice of music, and editing are tremendous. Thank you, it’s going to be a little sad to see this come to an end!
It will be more than a little sad. I hope they take us along on future weekend and longer hikes.
Hello, I just wanted to let you know I have watched the entire PCT hike. I would look forward to your adventures each evening. You don't know me but I feel like I know you! I looked forward to Rob's rare smile and Cassey's cheery good morning (except on the road section). I am originally from Seattle but worked on the East Coast for 20 years. I moved back to Washougal, WA and have done a lot of Gorge hikes. It is so good to be back in the mountains.
It has been a true delight to see your progress. Your videos are amazing. Thank you for putting in the time and effort even when I am sure you didn't feel like it. I will never do the entire PCT but I did it vicariously through you. Best, Mark
Have been following since the beginning. Think #25 is the best yet. Thanks
Absolutely B-E-A-utiful! Less snow there than when I went through the Goat Rocks.
Love your videos, and especially the music you put with it! Such beautiful scenery and it’s so calming.
Le voyage continu un plaisir de vous suivre merci.
I'm the one who was in the back of the pickup truck with you on the morning back up from Trout Lake to the trail. Have been enjoying your videos and didn't realize that was you. Thanks for sharing your hike!
I love all of your episodes but in this one your music is epic..perfect....
Each of your videos are great, and I always look forward to them. But this one, wow,.. just beautiful. Thanks!
I love that Casey says 'we've had a couple of days off in the vortex and we are going to take it easy' then marches full speed off camera. The elevation gain was extreme on this one but still smiles all round. Really love the vids and thank you for the night sky time-lapse again Rob, it didn't go unnoticed. Really appreciate a second one on this section. Views are spectacular, you are so fortunate to have such countryside just a car journey from home.❤😎
Yeah, 30 miles the first day, 29 the next made me wonder how many miles they did before if that's taking it easy ? I haven't watched these videos so I have no clue. Like the squiggly thing at the end showing where they went.
Thanks for the video! It's inspiring us to get outside
Another awesome video. It seems pretty evident you are both getting "finish fever". It will be a glad and sad day when you get to the terminus.... but maybe someday we will see our fearless duo on another trip..
Thx btw I don't know why but seeing your yoda profile picture just makes me happy xD
My wife and I really enjoyed your videos! We are older hikers, having met at Crater Lake National Park, the summer of 1977 - we are true soul mates as well as sole mates! May you always be in love and never let "creeping separatism" into your lives and keep a "shining barrier" against all outsiders (terms from book, A Severe Mercy).
We are so hooked on your updates. When you don't update for days on end, we worry. We also get bored not having anything exciting to watch. We have enjoyed the journey with you and can't wait to see you make the Canadian border. What will we do then? Maybe you can join us for some hikes in Montana De Oro in Los Osos CA if you want something way too easy.
Awesome 👏. Enjoying Mt Adams trails and looking forward to the Goat Rocks. Thank you and hope you have good weather. I grew up near White Pass so am familiar with the area. Fun remembering! Thank you 😊
Love the Minecraft music around 8:00, never heard it used like this before. sounds great.
I’m glad to see you’re “slowing down” by only putting in 25-30 a day. 😂. I did this section to finish Washington last year. Such a great section!
Wow you had great weather for goat roaches and knifes edge! Beautiful!
I really enjoying your PCT trip. After you finish your hike will y’all do any other trails? You have taken me places where I want be able to go. Thanks again!
Really nice video.Enjoyed it very much.Thanks a lot.ATB:Søren
I just love your videos! So pretty!
What an amazing scenery! Thank you for the videos :)
Beautiful!
I got a late start watching your videos but you two did an excellent job! its holding me over until my attempt May of "22!
Oh my we just bought 5 Coal beanies for Xmas. Y’all are officially influencers now
Lol, I’m sure Coal is preparing our commission checks as we speak haha
I see your creek crossings have improved Cassie😋
I’m glad it looks like that, I’m not sure that that’s actually the case though 😅
Stunning part of Washington. Thanks for taking us along. What month were you all passing through there ?
August. At the end of each vid when the map comes up the elevation gain top right gives the dates.
I grew up in that area and I never tire of the Mount Adams wilderness. You were really treated to great views. Isn’t cispus pass spectacular? Goat rocks is just such a beautiful space between mt Adams and Rainier. Knifes edge scares me cuz of the strong gusts and I’m chicken of the heights but such stellar views if its clear Thanks for posting
Goat Rocks will always be one of my favorites of the trail. We have been very fortunate to have clear weather both times we have traversed it.
Really have enjoyed your journey- thank you for sharing! I am planning on hiking next year and went back to your first video to see if there was a starting date. Could not find one - do you mind sharing that information ? You guys have really grown on the trail. Enjoy the finish. Mark Burch
Hey there! Thanks for enjoying our journey with us! We started on 2 April.
Headed for the North Cascades: Bigfoot country!
Bridge of the Gods picture on Instagram was where I gave in to (spoiler alert temptation) WHERE ARE THEY really?
Great videos. It is a pleasure to see each update of your trip till the first day. I love it.
By the way, what do you use ( software / app) to show your path over the google earth maps ? I love that kind of animation and i wish to do the same when attempting the PCT in the years to come :)
Greetings from France
How are you liking the tent? It looks like you have a BA tiger wall. My wife and I enjoy your videos.
It’s controversial… it has been “okay” for me (Rob). I prefer full freestanding (the BA Tiger is partial due to the foot box needing staking). Cas loves it. The real reason we ended up with this model (Tiger Wall Platinum) was because of space and weight. It is a (tight) three person tent, which translates into a comfortable two person tent. We appreciated balance of size to weight on this model. We compared with the Nemo equivalent and the Hubba Bubba. This one just checked more boxes than the alternatives. It has help up great against rodents (not a single hole) however we did have a little zipper trouble. Sometimes zippers fail, that’s just how it goes, but we were able to get through with a nifty FixnZip.
@@HeadingSomewhere hey thanks for the thorough response. We are primarily hammock campers, but we want a new tent for some trips out west (Washington and California). Been debating on the Tigerwall or a Triplex. The Triplex concerns me because of headroom and condensation issues. Again, awesome videos and good luck with the rest of your hike.
Yeah, no problem. We spent a ton of time around others with the triplex. They had way more issues with wind and firm ground that they couldn’t stake in. Our semi-freestanding at least meant it wouldn’t collapse on us. It was also WAY easier for us to throw the tent up and jump inside from hordes of mosquitoes. Those with the others benefitted from less weight, but my preferences will probably keep me in freestanding/semi-freestanding for my hiking days.
Never hammock camped, was always jealous when I saw them. I always figured the airflow under them would be colder though. Also, lots of barren places on the PCT where there weren’t viable trees for it.
I'll be heading out on the pct in only 10 weeks. Still trying to decide on what shirt to wear. Casey's shirt looks like it might be what i'm looking for. Would you mind sharing the brand of the shirt? Might help me in one of my last dilemma's ;-)
It is a Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily. She really really liked it.
@@HeadingSomewhere great 👍, thanks so much!
