Nice to meet you briefly at Sourdough Gap past Chinook Pass (red hoodie 16:15). Going through my hiking notes, found your channel which I scribbled that day. I enjoyed watching your video. Congrats on the PCT! I hope you enjoyed my home state of Washington. I agree the Goat Rocks is a special place. Mount Rainier too! I spent my summer bagging 71 peaks in this area and it still amazes me. Dayhike (PCT18)

Epic views & brilliant capture of them. Now we have more suspense in the coming videos. Did Noro virus strike? Did sparkle lizard make it to the terminus before the fire closure??…what will happen!?? 😮 !!!

I predict Sparkle Lizard summons a Giant Eagle.

@@LordQuiche And a giant windmill swats the eagle from the sky killing it but Lord Quiche is catapulted toward the boarder. His rate of descent is slowed by the updrafts caused by the fire and he lands safely at the northern terminus with passport and visa in hand. Another great episode! Unfortunately with all of the flailing of arms and legs the Lord was unable to capture the event on video.

Konnichiwa Lord Quiche! We hadn't heard your Konnichiwa Earthlings greeting for some time. By now you must be safely finished and returned home, comfortably ensconced in a local pub inspecting the suds on an Old Speckled Hen or some such delightful beverage. Knowing your video episodes will soon end is sad to contemplate. It's been fascinating seeing the PCT through your eyes as well as watching your video skills develope. Mind you, your videos have always been great, but there was a noticeable change after you left the northern Sierra and entered the Cascades -- around Quincy, I think. In any case, I await the final episodes.
As always, thank you for taking us with you!

    • @LordQuiche
      @LordQuiche  2 роки тому +2

Thank you. What changed do you think? I certainly got more comfortable talking to the camera. I found that very difficult in the beginning. It’s going to be fun watching them back

      @@LordQuiche
Hi Owen. Sorry for the late reply. What changed? I think it's a variety of factors. I'll ramble a bit:
      1. In the first few hundred miles you are probably just finding your trail legs and your mind is becoming accustomed to the hike. You are learning how to talk to the camera AND getting accustomed to just about everything else as well. Under those circumstances combined with the challenges of the desert and basic survival logistics, fine-tuning your video skills is probably low on your sub-conscious priority list.
      2. Then comes the High Sierra, jetting up in short order to 10,000+ feet elevation for long periods of time, summiting Whitney and in short order conquering Forester and Kearsarge (twice) -- which three points are your most severe elevation challenges during the trek. Unlike the desert, water is plentiful and temperatures are cooler, but resupply is a nightmare (how many miles off trail is Onion Valley followed by 40+ miles of hitching ... ???), and given these issues, you're probably more concerned that your camera/phone/etc. are sufficiently charged. You probably don't want to "waste" power experimenting with new video settings. What's more, you're more often than not above treeline traversing monochromatic snow fields and surrounded by High Sierra "moonscapes," and, as I recall, you got sick in Yosemite ... so ... not the best overall environment to stimulate your inner video Picasso. And after all, there was a good reason Ansel Adams shot his greatest High Sierra photography in black and white.
      3. Then comes the Northern Sierra with generally lower elevations. You had finally shaken your chest congestion. I think it's in this section that you finally start to lose a lot of distractions of the previously more severe trail life. If nothing else, there's simply more oxygen in the air, and you are completely acclamitized. There are no more hypoxic high points on the trail. You can begin to think about "luxuries" like tweeking camera settings. What's more, you begin to be surrounded by a much more dynamic and varied environment, and this probably encourages one to try new settings and techniques. When you have more to play with, you are bound to experiment more.
      *****
So that's my take, but let's not lose sight of the most important thing. For me the effort you expended simply to hike the trail is mind boggling. The additional investment of time, skill and effort needed to film the trek is incomprehensible. You've done a phenomenal job all the way from Campo! It's always been a pleasure and a priviledge to watch.
Many, many thanks for taking us along!

If the Northern Terminus is closed then why not divert to the Olympic Peninsula and hike the last part of the PNNST? I have been suggesting that to all through hikers on the PCT who have been denied parts of Oregon and then The Northern Terminus. If you can't get to Canada anyhow, try something different and you'll get just as close to the border even.
    copypasta:
The Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail (PNNST) travels 1,200 miles through Montana, Idaho, and Washington, from near the Continental Divide in Glacier National Park to the Pacific Ocean on Washington's Olympic Peninsula. About 130 miles of the trail passes through Olympic National Park including 38 miles on Olympic's Wilderness Coast, the longest stretch of wilderness coast in the contiguous 48 states.

You did and they did. :-)
The Olympic Peninsula is pretty freakin glorious, IMO.
I have barely been up past Long Beach and am looking forward to doing a trail tour of the peninsula next year or 2024. It's definitely on the list, it's just that the list is pretty BIG even if I don't leave the PNW. :-)

@@russellzauner If you planning the ever popular Hoh River, I suggest camping at Kalaloch Beach and getting into park as early as possible in the morning. Or skip the Hoh and head up Quinault trails, especially east fork to Enchanted Valley. If you want to avoid crowds, go around to east side of ONP and go up Dosewallips area.
