And didn’t she look absolutely beautiful? Glowing skin and that gorgeous smile. She was always very underconfident about her looks. Beautiful and beyond talented Vic; we will never forget you. x
I can't believe she's gone. She was so much a part of my growing up and adult life. I watch the entire Dinnerladies series about once a month. I remember laughing like a drain with my mum, especially at 'The Ballad of Freda and Barry'. I grew into her humour once I got married and had children, I understood her so much better. I will miss her like a good friend. RIP Ms Wood, and thank you.
Ballard of Freda and Barry has to be the best ever song - the lyrics "Hit me on the bottom with a womans weekly" and "smear an avocado on my lower portions" have never been repeated!!! RIP
Thanks for posting! I had this show on VHS and used to watch it all the time. I probably hadn't heard this song for about 25 years, but could still remember almost all the lyrics!! She was so talented and is sorely missed!
Her passing was a great shock, and the more I see of her work the more I realise what a great talent we've lost. Never take those you live for granted because one day you may wake up to find they're no longer there.
So many people trying to incorporate comedy and music this year on Britain's Got Talent, and it just hits home so hard that Victoria Wood did it so much better than anyone else! Second to none, take it away Victoria!!
Victoria's grasp of language and the melody of words is titanic. Those with smaller vocabulary and less respect for definitions and the sound of words can never surpass her talent and painstaking writing.
Gutted. National treasure is a phrase too often given to those that don’t deserve it but we have certainly lost one today. Multi-talented, supremely funny and groundbreaking, Victoria paved the way for many to follow in her footsteps. She should be up there with Noel Coward in stature for whilst she may not have had the posh accent she was his equal in terms of ability, charm and repartee. Her body of work is unparalleled in it’s range and depth and she just seemed so damn kind too. She was as generous with her writing too, never would she try and hog the best line, she gave it to whoever could get the biggest laugh as that was the most important thing. I hope this sad day leads to more of her work being shown again so a new generation, who I fear sadly don’t know of her talents, can enjoy what we have for so many years. Sales of ‘Womans Weekly’ should go through the roof as all you ‘Freda & Barry’s have some fun and those of us sadly alone can raise an extra large cup of tea in honour of Miss Victoria Wood OBE CBE. “Life is not fair is it ? Some of us drink Champagne in the fast lane, and some of eat our sandwiches by the loose chipping on the A597.”
Absolute talent, there'll never be another Victoria Wood, you can't learn this stuff, it's a gift and she was certainly wrapped in gold, miss her so much x
ChaoticNarrative ... you may or may not be unaware but there's a wonderful Facebook page dedicated to the beautiful woman. It's title is Victoria Wood Quotations.
You'd only fart an then attemp to light them! Brings back memories of my childhood oddly enough.the last line is also so appropriate for me.like big hunky men and so do you dear! Oh yes! Pure comedy genius. RIP victoria wood.the real queen of comedy.
This is my favourite Victoria Wood song. So shocked & saddened at her passing. She was a great talent, the likes of which will never be seen again. RIP, & if there is a heaven you will be up there with the greats! What a concert that will be. One thing is for sure my friends one day we will all have a ticket to the show.
You'd only fart and then.... Attempt to light them 😂😂 Incredibly funny lady, so sad when I heard of her passing a couple of days ago. A true legend taken too early x
Not heard this for a few years but still brilliantly written and still just as funny. She certainly had the knack of writing quirky but funny songs. Sadly missed as there is no one similar to take her place.
Victoria Wood was so funny. She gave us insight into our ordinary lives and showed us how to laugh about it. That's why us lesser mortals could relate to her. Her humour will be in our hearts forever and so will Victoria.
The 12 people who have thumbed down must be unwashed, homosexual, Margaret Thatcher fans with poor oral hygiene that like to light their own farts. Except for those, everyone else knows this song is pure comic genius! Victoria was such a huge multi talented genuinely nice person it's still unbelievable that she is no longer around. At least we have these wonderful moments to remember her by. Victoria may be gone but she will never ever be forgotten.
Another typically great song, from one of the greatest losses to the world of comedy in decades. Sad, based on real life, with those huge and sudden injections of humour she was famous for. Rest in peace Vicky, you truly were one of the greats.
absolutely heartbroken. RIP to my hero. She tells the story of my childhood. This is the first time this happened to me where one of my idols has died and I don't know how to feel so sad about somebody I never met but felt I knew. Make them laugh in heaven Victoria xxxxxxxx
This song is sooooooooooooo funny from "I saw the spinach on your bottom denture" to you blew your nose and looked in your hanky and your idea of foreplay was to take your socks off
I liked big muscles, he was thin and lanky; I liked nice manners, he was far too cranky; He blew his nose and then looked in his hanky; Things would never have worked. The day I met him was a real heart-wrencher; I thought that love would be a big adventure; Then saw the spinach on his bottom denture; Things would never have worked. I wanted champagne and oysters, 'Cos that's the way I am; He gave me Vimto... tinned carrots… And spam. Life is tough and love's another hurdle. He always spoke about his one big dream girl! I didn't like that it was Mrs Murkel. Things would never have worked. I wanted love to come and knock our blocks off; But even Venus takes her card and clocks off; His idea of foreplay was to take his socks off; Things would never have worked. I wanted moonlight, roses, And all that silly tosh;
He wanted gerbils... A whippet… A wash. I wanted love poems, but he couldn't write them; My earlobes nibbled, but he wouldn't bite them; He’d only fart and then attempt to light them; Things would never have worked. We're not compatible, let's not get blue, dear; At least we see each other's point of view, dear; I like big hunky men, and so do you dear; Things would never have worked!
i always thought this was better than the ballad of barry and freda which was overlong but because it was about sex rather than personality got all the acclaim. overhyped as much as abfab.
You wanted gerbils; a whippet; a wash.
The casual burn is breathtaking...
And didn’t she look absolutely beautiful? Glowing skin and that gorgeous smile. She was always very underconfident about her looks. Beautiful and beyond talented Vic; we will never forget you. x
She was actually pregnant here, hence the long jacket and glowing skin ☺
I always thought she was beautiful too.
@@KittyWalfordtotally 😊
Agreed .... Never forget her , she was unique 😊
"You wanted gerbils, a whippet... a wash."
One of the greatest British comedians of all time. RIP.
+Sci Fi And Banter I agree 100%
Mrs Thatcher 😀😱
Amazing comic ,you only fart an attempt to light them.things would never have worked
I miss her so much. Absolutely hilarious, every time, and was never vulgar. Such a lovely and talented person.
Show anything by this genius to those who say women aren't funny. Victoria sits upon the peak of the Mt Olympus of comedy.
But unlike lots of funny people, kind. I don't think she was ever cruel.
' I like big hunky men ..... and so do you,dear.Things would never have worked." Her talent was simply matchless. Irreplaceable. RIP,funny,sweet lady.
She was the comedy voice of a whole generation. Unmatched she will remain.
Victoria Wood is a genius. Every time I listen to this it makes me laugh out loud.
I can't believe she's gone. She was so much a part of my growing up and adult life. I watch the entire Dinnerladies series about once a month. QueenofSnarks me too sister, me too 😢 xxx
She was a friend we never met, a source of memories that can never be blighted. A true inspiration
Only one word, incomparable!
Ballard of Freda and Barry has to be the best ever song - the lyrics "Hit me on the bottom with a womans weekly" and "smear an avocado on my lower portions" have never been repeated!!! RIP
So clever - the first time you listen you laugh because it's unexpected...then you laugh because you know it's coming! Genius. RIP
"Connie's been around, and her songs reflect that. There's one about Aberystwyth ----"
That’s where she excels. It’s the precision. There’s something so parochial about saying Aberystwyth is the extent of Connie’s exotic past!
Thanks for posting! I had this show on VHS and used to watch it all the time. I probably hadn't heard this song for about 25 years, but could still remember almost all the lyrics!! She was so talented and is sorely missed!
The funniest comedian ever - no contest. 😢
You had your pin-up girl
I couldn't match her
I didn't want to it was
Mrs Thatcher
Thays such a clever rhyme
Her passing was a great shock, and the more I see of her work the more I realise what a great talent we've lost. Never take those you live for granted because one day you may wake up to find they're no longer there.
An absolute genius woman😊.Much missed ❤😢
Crazy writer, pianist, comedian and a hottie.
We miss you 😢
She was a classic. Aways enjoyable , I’m going to sit with her when I go upstairs and have a glass of… 😊
Fantastic memories of days sadly gone by.

The absolute best in entertainment. Who also could fit Swarfega into a song.
Absaloutly devastated to hear Victoria Wood had died. I'll miss her so much!
RIP
Wonderful the one and only
I love the twist at the end of this: "I like big, hunky men, and so do you, dear". Still miss Victoria, she was one of a kind.
You gave me Vimto, Tinned Carrots. and Spam 🤣
3 staples of northern life! 😆

She was such a clever comedian - she could be SOOO smutty, yet it never sounded as bad as others! 😂😂😂😢
Not heard this for a few years but still brilliantly written and still just as funny. She certainly had the knack of writing quirky but funny songs. Sadly missed as there is no one similar to take her place.

My favourite Victoria Wood song.
Victoria Wood was so talented and entertaining. What a shame she left so young RIP lovely lady
Victoria Wood was so funny. She gave us insight into our ordinary lives and showed us how to laugh about it. That's why us lesser mortals could relate to her. Her humour will be in our hearts forever and so will Victoria.
Devastated to hear this- a genius taken far to soon...you'll be sadly missed.RIP & thanks Victoria x

12 people? They are obviously a dozen eclairs.
Priceless - she was the best : )

The "you'd only fart and tempt to light them" part was SO funny
absolutely heartbroken. RIP to my hero. She tells the story of my childhood. This is the first time this happened to me where one of my idols has died and I don't know how to feel so sad about somebody I never met but felt I knew. Make them laugh in heaven Victoria xxxxxxxx

Yes. I second that. We want an encore. Can you here us clapping and chanting your name from where you are?
We can't see angels anymore. They are all rolling about laughing at your jokes. Their stomachs ache too much!

Very funny. I do one of her impressions on my channel.
This song is sooooooooooooo funny from "I saw the spinach on your bottom denture" to you blew your nose and looked in your hanky and your idea of foreplay was to take your socks off
I liked big muscles, he was thin and lanky;
I liked nice manners, he was far too cranky;
He blew his nose and then looked in his hanky;
Things would never have worked.
The day I met him was a real heart-wrencher;
I thought that love would be a big adventure;
Then saw the spinach on his bottom denture;
Things would never have worked.
I wanted champagne and oysters,
'Cos that's the way I am;
He gave me Vimto... tinned carrots…
And spam.
Life is tough and love's another hurdle.
He always spoke about his one big dream girl!
I didn't like that it was Mrs Murkel.
Things would never have worked.
I wanted love to come and knock our blocks off;
But even Venus takes her card and clocks off;
His idea of foreplay was to take his socks off;
Things would never have worked.
I wanted moonlight, roses,
And all that silly tosh;
He wanted gerbils... A whippet…
A wash.
I wanted love poems, but he couldn't write them;
My earlobes nibbled, but he wouldn't bite them;
He’d only fart and then attempt to light them;
Things would never have worked.
We're not compatible, let's not get blue, dear;
At least we see each other's point of view, dear;
I like big hunky men, and so do you dear;
Things would never have worked!
This is the German version, I assume, from hearing the name Mrs Murkel. I like it.
Thank you very much for typing the words onto UA-cam. Now I can sign along!
R.I.P. Victoria, thanks for the laughs. Too soon. Far too soon.
Effing brilliant 😂
I looked hard for a funny female and eventually found one; one that i've known since my childhood and has made me laugh ever since.

OH A DOO LIKE TE BE BESIDE THE SEASIIIDE
You’d only fart and then attempt to light them lol.
she's so funny
