Yep. That’s why I went with the “12volt solutions” aftermarket remote start! All plug and play, installed myself. And it uses the OEM key fob. I’ve had it now for 6 months and it’s been great.
If you still have this truck, you should get the cool start aftermarket remote programmed for it. It has four buttons, lock and unlock, a trunk button( which you won't need since you have a pick up) and a key button for the remote start. My 1988 C1500 has it and when you press the remote start button it'll start up, you can unlock or lock it while it's running and the engine won't shut off on you. You can also put the key in the ignition while the engine is running, turn the ignition to the on position, press your foot on the brake, put it into gear and your good to go.
My 2011 did not come with a remote start. I went with the Start X aftermarket. just installed today. I don't seem to have those problems. we'll see how well it functions over time. I wonder if there's a way you can disable the factory remote and install an aftermarket one. I wonder if anyone out there has learned how modify their stock wiring to correct the problems from the factory.
Slow press the lock button three times, it starts no problem. Press the unlock button and you have entry. Works everything on my 2016 Tundra. Not sure if I have aftermarket as I bought it preowned though. 🤷🏽♂️
Can you remote start and then open the door and the vehicle is still started? That's the issue he is referring too. Same issue I have. I want to remote start in winter and then walk out to my cat and unlock it and drive off but I can6because when i open the door it shuts the engine off.
@@CJ-mz3ib I can! Is the method for remote start the same process you have to perform? Three lock presses to start? Like I said--not sure if mine is an aftermarket install as it wasn't listed as a feature with my vehicle when I purchased it used from the dealer.
Also does not automatically adjust climate control to ambient temp only last settings. Every other manufacturer will turn on AC when hot outside, or heat when cold. The remote range seems to be limited also
I dont like the fact you have to press the lock button three times, I wonder how long will that remote last with all that button pushing? Im in the market for a remote start for mine, I want plug and play but good range and a separate remote with its own start button. Any suggestions?
Just bought a 2020 and didn’t know about this ridiculous feature. Something else that’s stupid is the mirror folding feature button doesn’t glow in the dark like the 5 other buttons that are literally an inch away. Makes it hard in the dark.
It actually saves your starter. It keeps knot heads like me from getting in and grinding on a starter on a truck thats already started... its that simple.
I use this feature every single day on my GMC and never had an issue. I absolutely agree with you about the Tundra. I think it’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen and it pretty much makes me not want to use it considering the wear and tear on the motor and other factors.
Up here in Alaska it's needed in this minus below weather. The problem that I'm having now is my Toyota Starts with the remote start, but when the truck is off. Once I crank it it stays cranking continuously with no start. When, I remote start the truck starts up.
my remote start on 2018 z71...OK can use phone (no direct line of sight or distance required)...mine is set up with fingerprint to start. ...settings in truck for remote i can have AC on, heatseats on or off, auto defrost on/off. and open the door while truck stays running. Also this feature is through Onstar and is included for years at zero monthly cost...thinking 6yrs maybe more
He doesn't get it. Ford can get stolen but it'll die sooner. Stolen Toyota will last longer for the thieves. I actually like this feature, that it shuts off. Omg, a few seconds of restarting ain't gonna matter.
You know, I just purchased a left over 2020 Limited, and on my way out of the dealership I started the Tundra remotely walked up to it to open the door the way I used to in my old Ram. Door would not open, so I clicked unlock on the remote, the truck died. What the crap! Never seen a rmote start work like this. come on Toyota. My Ram didn't act lick that, my wife's Jeep doesn't do that. Toyota PLEASE HELP!!!
Stupid by Toyota. I have 2017 Honda Ridgeline with factory remote start. As long I have my KEYFOB the car won’t shut off. Just get in and turn on key or press push start button one the car ready to drive.
It's really bad. I just ordered a Start X from Amazon. It's $200 and as far as I can tell, you don't have to hold on the 3rd button press for as long to start it. Plus it doesn't shut off like you showed here. I have been watching a lot of 2022 Tundra reviews and I am really getting soured on Toyota in general. They now want to charge you $8/month to keep the key fob working for just unlocking. That mad me flaming mad 😡 I also am super disappointed in the crazy crap they have done with the Tundra. I would never buy this new model. They should have just offered a different drive for better mpg maybe updated the tech stuff as an option. Now it is basically a hot mess and just about every review is calling them out for it. Total BS by Toyota.
This is why I bought a 13 this year instead of a newer one. Not as many issues. Also because of all the SAIS issues and ignorant owners there are people not wanting to replace the SAIS because of Toyotas $2400 quote and because of that have had a truck in limp mode they don’t want. That helped me buy a 13 for well, $13,000, and Hewitt Industries helped me fix it for $350. After tax less than $15000 on my 2nd gen.
Ford has a better remote start system. It doesn’t shut off when you open the door and it doesn’t let you switch gears unless you press the brake and press the start stop button.
I think it's stupid. I used to remote start my suv in the winter and then go out, unlock the door get in and turn the key before I could put it in gear and the windows were defrosted, my seat was warm and the heater was on. Now I cant do that because the damn truck turns off as soon as I unlock the door. WTH!!!!! I had no idea my truck even had the remote start because there is no button on the fob like the Chevy or GMC has. This is such a waste in my opinion. I do love my truck though!!
Absolutely right, I wish you posted this three months ago before I spent $800 for the “long distance remote” accessory . Actually as much as I love my 2019 Tundra, there is much to be desired as far as technology goes.
It does the exact same thing. The instruction manual explains that if you use the remote start, and you open the door, the engine shuts off. 2019 Camry. This is for all Toyotas.
@@JJFLD, I got the Remote start installed today. My old 2006 Chevrolet Impala and 2011 Chevrolet Traverse both have Remote starts, and the engine does not shut off when the door is opened. All you do in those cars is to unlock the door, put the key in the ignition and move it to the run position and then drive off. It’s a bad Toyota design.
my truck came with factory remote start...it only works if the temp is below 50 degrees and only runs for 10 min but i can open the doors in that 10 min period and the engine stays on...and you can only do a remote start 2 times for 10 min each then you have to manually start it up
Yep. That’s why I went with the “12volt solutions” aftermarket remote start! All plug and play, installed myself. And it uses the OEM key fob. I’ve had it now for 6 months and it’s been great.
I love the start part but that's it
Can you do that even if you have a remote start from the factory?
pay that much for truck, lacks so much technology....same truck since 2007, ridiculous
Have had my 12v solutions G key starter on my 2015 CM Tundra Has work flawlessly for a year now.
how's the 12volt since your install? did you get the smart app? looks like a fairly easy and simple install.
Thanks for the shout out. I agree, the factory Toyota remote start is awful. It makes no sense.
Nope none the only good part is the safety of your car not getting stolen. Other than that garbage

Yeah the folding mirror button not lighting up is stupid
I agree interior lighting for accessories is pretty bad across the brand

That sucks does the Canada version remedy that
@@TheBoardWoodworker That, I do not know.
I agree 100%. my neighbor has a crv, same problem.
Easy solution. Don't use the remote start. The rest of us will happily continue to do so.

J Fike the service might outlast the truck
I think they do that because of thieves stealing your car. My dad’s truck do the same thing and he doesn’t mind.

totally agree, Toyota F up'd on this remote start & vehicle access, hardly use it because of the excessive wear & tear on the components,
I have never used my tundra remot start it ..I just found out jajaja

Toyota for fan boy's only... Like Atari 2600 then claim reliability... Cause it don't have near technology
But its a viable claim regardless of technology

Completely agree but there reliability is where they shine
Like no front parking sensors only on the front sides. And no heated steering wheel.

It is just a 3 2 level with 35 inch tires.nothing fancy
Yes, it's absolutely stupid. There should be an update with the technology they have today. Simply lame as f!!
This has to be the most absurd part about the OEM Remote Start. I however wonder if the Canadian Toyota Remote Start Plus system does this though.
That's a good question I will try to.find out for you

Use aftermarket start X it won't do that
Can’t start with the key and take the fob off and lock the doors.
You can but it wont let you lock the doors if the seat doesn't register a person in it

is about safety I guess .
I think so also. The good out way the bad but still annoying
So disappointed. My F150 remote start was awesome.
Ford probably has one of the best
Are you serious? This is not worth the rant.
Yeah it is 😂
Toyota is a cult like following....go to Chevy dealer. are you the friend that engine blew?
also some of the aftermarket remote for Toyota....shuts off when door is opened...wife has one on Camry
Toyota remote start sucks. After market are a lit better and cheeper
I am not the one with a blown engine.
It is indeed stupid
