A friend of mine had a 10 year old Nissan Leaf with 40 mile range. Tesla offered him $50 trade-in for it. Yes, $50! Instead of that he gave it to his neighbor in exchange for mowing his lawn all summer. lol.
I'm just over here saving the Camaro for you Tyler ❤ I've always said it will be the worst low mile ZL1 1LE ever for someone to buy second hand. Only 3000 miles but all of those miles are at wide open throttle on a race track!

When I worked at a volume Toyota dealership in 1990, they hammered it into our heads to call the customers' monthly payment a "monthly investment." Even at 20, I knew cars, especially mass-produced Camrys, Corollas, and Tercels, were not investments. Now, the 89 Celica All-Trac Turbo 5spd that we took in on trade was a different story. I tried to buy that car, but the GM knew what it was and snatched it up.
I think the issue with the Wrangler for its depreciation, and Stellantis as a whole, is that their dealers simply don’t carry the versions or trims that people actually want. Thus, the new ones tend to sit on the lot while used ones in the trims people actually desire command a lot of money.
@@XX-166 I should we have 14 collector cars. It seems like Hoovies garage channel has just turned into more of just a weekly talk show about cars. Or April told him to spend less money on cars and more remodeling the house. Not my wife and not in my house. 🏠
The worst depreciation I ever saw was for a Jaguar XJ-8. The Jaguar dealer in Colorado Springs had two of them sitting next to each other. Same color...same options. One was new, and the other was 1 year old with 8,000 miles on it. The new one was $80,000. The year-old one was $48,000.
Tyler is absolutely correct Toyota is getting lazy with their quality of their vehicles they don't last as long as the older Generation stuff did they use way more plastic parts.the part quality isn't as good and they need to rethink about how they make their cars they made them good before from the start they need to keep creating the good quality stuff like they did when they were making them from the get-go good durable Quality Parts to keep that good reputation going.
GMYT, my 1998 Toyota Camry sold new for $17,400 with a worn-out Pontiac trade in. It now has 160,000 miles and the upholstery still looks new, the original paint is fine (could use a buff + wax) and has no leaks, rust or other issues. The timing belt, harmonic balancer and water pump were recently replaced and it still gets the sticker EPA est. 23 city/30 + highway MPG! With a tweak or two it continues to pass 2 year emission requirements. I'm glad it is an appliance that has taken my wife and I across country several times and acts as a daily when needed. We also have a pickup so mileage is divided between the 2. Electric cars are the future but will never satisfy people like yourselves who love high maintenance, noise and smoke!
I like that you show the thumb of the car after the picture goes away. I would like to think someone read my complaint about showing the picture for half a second and incorporated this as a compromise. Thanks for listening!
OK, you showed the Miata 30th anniversary Edition and went on to say the Miata holds 72%...not that one. normal mileage after 5 years the 30AE will be 80-85%. A super low miles 30AE just sold...1400 miles...for original sticker. shoot, low miles 30+ year old NA Miatas are going for 75% of original sticker. Miatas, properly maintained and not rusty, are one of the best values out there.
Camaro - maybe for the V6 cars. For the V8, absolutely not. The 6th gen Camaro came out in 2015 as a 2016 model. 9 model years later, a loaded up 2016 2SS manual with lower miles (not collector car low, but in the 20-40k range) is selling for low-mid 30's. That car stickered in the mid 40's. Hadly a 50% drop in 5 years. Actually, it took the majority of the drop in the first 3 years and have stayed pretty flat since. And we aren't even talking special cars like the SS 1LE, ZL1, ZL1 1LE, which also aren't dropping. Who cares about the V6 cars? I stupidly passed on buying a '16 that was as loaded as they came. Sunroof, dual mode exhaust, 2SS, manual, mag ride, low miles, everything. Honda dealer asking 32k in early 2018. Drove great and was in great shape. I could have bought that then and the car would be worth about what I paid for it now. I regret that decision. I also regret not buying a 996 as a daily in early 2015 when I bought my E92, as I could have drove it for 6 years like I did the E92 and sold it for a profit. At least my last 3 car purchases were financially smart...
As Nisan dumps their CVTs on models they will gain market share. They still have NA V6 & V8s…..The Armada is a hidden gem for a SUV value that you will driving for 20 years-no over the top tech except direct injection. They have no air suspension -no issues and they drive very smooth. My next car will be a 4yo Armada for my family. Only downside is shitty gas mileage.
I wonder how much road salt depreciates cars. Once it's been on the road for 5 winters they can start to show especially where a new batch is put down at the minimum once a week. Other times every couple of days. I have seen the engine compartment of an F 150 that looked like it had been on fire.
I'm sure in a few more years, the Ford Maverick will be on the list of least depreciating vehicles after five years. Their resale value right now is very strong. It's a compact truck that's just the right size for most households, it's affordable and there's virtually no competition for it unless you count the Hyundai Santa Cruz. The sales don't even compare on that one. But for right now, it's only been on the market for three years. In two more years, I bet it'll still have strong resale value, especially if there's still gonna be no competition for it.
If you go to a Jeep dealership, 90% of the Wranglers on the lot are 4xe. The 4xe is just not worth its premium price as it doesn’t have enough electric range and doesn’t improve the fuel economy enough in hybrid mode. Plus, potential future reliability issues and greater depreciation, few Jeep buyers are buying the 4xe. If the 4xe was offered at a discount such that it was the same price as a gas Jeep, it might be interesting, but I still think most Jeep buyers would avoid it.
If you are an automobile manufacturer and the Government is pushing you to make cars with outlandish fuel economy standards and electric cars because they want its citizens driving electric cars and not gasoline cars...do you really need to be concerned with longevity and reliability what most of today's production will be gone in the next 10 years?
The Good news for average folks is the used EV Market prices should be coming down to be competitive, especially against new cars across the board. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
Hoodie overstating the coolant issues with the 200 series. Heavy neglect is the only thing killing these there are plenty of very high milage ones still on the road as this truck has been out since 2008
Soon to be on the best list, Ford Maverick. Currently seeing what few used are for sale over original MSRP. Crazy that dealers are linking to the original window sticker and asking over when they have 20k+ miles
My Tesla Model X Performance depreciated far more than 50% over 5 years... it snickered for over $150k, now it's worth about 40k. so it's worth less than 1/3 of what it cost new.
@@Neojhun my performance with FSD in 2018 had a sticker of $171k. The only option its missing is the center console for the middle row of the 6 passenger.
Are the 200 Series Landcruisers Diesel in the US? In Australia it is a twin turbo 4.5L V8 Diesel, even used still very expensive and also has the same reputation for reliability here. Older ones over here regularly change hands with 200 - 300K plus kilometres on them.
The Leaf had no Battery management which is why their batteries died. Newer EVs have much better battery management and battery chemistry and are lasting far longer … see recent article on EV battery life that pointed to expected 20 year lifespan and the battery lasting longer than the actual car will.
I got a 2021 Chevy Spark and honestly was surprised how little they depreciated in an absolute value amount. Though, there is only so much a $16,000 car can depreciate. Sold mine a year ago because F#$& GENERAL MOTORS. $500 a month insurance because GM couldn't keep its data in its pants.
The Nissan Leaf has terrible battery management and is really a throwback kind of EV. Virtually all other EVs out there have much better battery management and will last hundreds of thousands of miles. My Model 3 2018 just passed 100k miles and recently tested at 93% battery.

I think you messed up again lol. While you were talking about percentage of residual value it showed the same percentage as depreciation in the text inserts. 😅
Put a $7500 tax credit on the MSRP of a Camry and it would have 19.4% "depreciation" walking out the door. It's why BMW EVs hold value a lot more - a lot of the drivers do not qualify for the tax credit when purchasing and they don't suck the way MB does.
