This channel is so underrated, Mikey you got some of the best down to earth real fishing content. It’s not like a bunch of other vids you see now where guys are just trying to pump their sponsors and their vids are more like watching lure commercials instead of real fishing. Keep up the great work bro 🤙🏼.

Pitching big jigs into the thick stuff is probably my favorite way to fish. It's how I caught my PB several years ago - 13 lbs 10 oz on a 3/4 oz flipping jig. I've been searching for her big sister ever since!

@@mikeybalzz It was amazing! I almost didn't even get the fish because I'd been trolling along and pitching to open spots in the acres and acres of hydrilla mats and not really getting anything. I was kinda zoned out when she said "SLORP!" and inhaled that jig. Damn near ripped the rod right out of my hands. It was one of those deals where I thought it was a good fish, but she was digging into the slop so it felt like a load of bricks. I was thinking, "Okay, this might be a 4 or 5." Nope. She was way bigger than that, lol. I didn't even realize I had dragged her free of the hydrilla. I thought she was still lodged in there. My wrists hurt for days afterward. Fun times!

Wise man told me one day; when you meet, greet, or just speak to anyone, speak to them like you known that person all your life! It's so genuine and refreshing, you'll never have problems making friends! Boy was he correct and that's what makes your video so great 👍 You're genuine and you speak to people like everyone is your best bud! I appreciate your advice and sometimes not necessarily learning anything new, but more reconfirmed that I'm doing it correctly. Confidence is so underrated! That's what your channel really helps me! So thanks, Friend!

Great advice to match the hatch with this technique, as well as if they keep missing to downsize the bait. Was given advice once if flipping into bull rush or reeds; always look at the plant. Often, the plant will shake when a fish strikes the bait, because the bite isn't always felt.

    Good info.
Here in ohio we have some lakes that are really grassy and some lakes that are devoid of grass.
    I fish both .
The pendulum of the bait cannot be underestimated.
Back in the early 90's I had those flying lures that I used wading creeks for smallmouth.
Usually in the bend of a creek on the outside of the bend would be a pretty deep hole but Usually also a downed tree, so casting on the outside of the structure the baits would land then progress forward into the cover , and bam !!
I was always amazed at the size of the smallies that would be miles up stream from the larger river.
Now I mostly fish from a kayak, it's almost unfair how stealthy I can be , can't cover huge expanses of water but I can target zones in ways that I can't while fishing in my boat

Just pulled off the lake because of a thunder storm. My 4 rigs were a frog. 3/8 Texas rig. Heavy punch rig. And a heavy cover swim jig for fishing the lanes. Got bit on um all. Had a 5th rod with a hybrid hunter but it was too thick.

I run 7.0’s and 8.0’s on my grass set up. Twin rods,2 speeds and my hook up ratio on the 8.0 is way higher than the 7.0. Especially with a jig,the 8.0 is the ticket.

Right now my grass set up for tomorrow is a 7’6”H Lykan/8.0 Hamarr, its got a 3/4 on now but it goes from 3/8-1,1/4. 7’5”H Anura/8.0 Hamarr S+,its got a 3/4 Hack Attack Jig on now but its for 3/8-3/4 and a 7’H Myakka/7.0 Hamarr and its got a Spro Bronzeye on now and its for frogs and 4.75-5.75 Rage Swimmers through the grass and on edges. Ive got a 7’9”H Siren/7.0 Nimbus combo for 1/4-3/4 but its keeping a texas rigged 3/8 Magnum Zoom Trick Worm just for flipping to that sparse cover you talk about. A little group of pads with open grass around them is a guaranteed fish on the worm.

Do you experiment with the way you work the bait under the mat over the course of the day? For example, do you find that some days they prefer it being suspended under the mat and others they prefer pumping and dropping the bait?
I just started punching this summer, pretty sure I've watched every video you've put out on the subject by now 😆 I completely understand the hype, I haven't been able to put the punching rod down since I got it! These are some of the best fishing vids on UA-cam!

    • @mikeybalzz
      @mikeybalzz  2 роки тому +1

Yes 100% I always start with the power flipping trying to get them to bite on the drop but if that doesn’t work I’ll play around with various sorts of dangling and pumping sometimes it’s not even about suspending the bait right under the mat but may be like a foot down or so depending on the depth that you’re in they can get really weird but if you figure it out and dial it in you can get bites right behind people

Hand unload the Lil jon.gas motor test run. And I take waves over the front ,and the back on lake kill you okechobee. After getting waked out by all the bigger boats. Who race me to Reed patches. I got flipping And pitchin up the Kissimmee river . I bail out4 gallons w a zip lock due to no bilge pump.and flip My rod off the nose of the boat. I drop anchor
And pull off my mustang inflation vest.rdy to jump in. And it's gators all over me.... so I put my finder on , tie on a hvy booyah 3/4 lipless and try to hook my rod. And couldn't get it... dang... so I lift anchor roll forward. And it goes sloping to 14 ft from 5... I couldn't get it up the slope.. I tried for a 20 mins.so.off to pitching shade ,and open grass floating mats.i hooked up 4 fish lost all of em. 2 on senco ball ups.1 on mag ned, and 1 on. CHatterbait. Epic fail. But I stayed with it. Didn't spin out, and left before the storm, or boatramp jam up that I always get stuck in.Thx for all the tips MBRF! I just need a 20 ft Boat to deal w the lake and waves. I found the ballz to go there. But lost eqipment trying for the mega bag! Till next time....
