    Haddar, this video is amazing, thank you A LOT! I've been working on the "th+r" thing for several days and right after watching your video I can already feel it's the sounding better... Hopefully in a few days I'll be able to pronunce it correctly. Your video definitely helps!

    This is absolute gold. Even 3 decades of living in US, struggle with this. My phone number has 3 in it. But tell that on phone to someone, they never get it.

    It was mind blowing. Never knew pronouncing THR is so comfortable! I first realized it was pretty similar to "thr" in "thirty" and it same as tr and dr! Suddenly, I was able to pronounce any "thr" words! Great video :)

    Hello! I’m Ian, and I’m from the USA. The “R” in 🇺🇸 American English is always pronounced in the back of your throat, with he sides of the tongue braced against the inner upper teeth and the top of your tongue curled up, but not touching anything. But when there’s a “thr” combination, the “r” sound is pronounced differently. The tongue is in the front of the mouth, the back parts of your tongue rise up to make a combination similar to a slide 🛝.

    I have just had the realisation that I have been doing my Hungarian rolling R after the th sound. I have never noticed it before. So thank you for this great video! My pronunciation is fairly good, but here, you can always learn something new (about yourself). :)

    As far as I know using the alveolar tap [ɾ] is while pronouncing "THR" is correct and considered allophonic. Some native speakers do it, some don't.

    • @hadar.shemesh
      @hadar.shemesh  7 років тому

      True. Some native speakers do it- that's a good point!
      However, many of the things that non native speakers struggle with are no big deal and don't affect clarity so much. This is one of them. But, if it makes the speaker too aware and self-conscious of their pronunciation, then this is something that should be addressed especially since it's possible to work on. Also, I always say that there are things that native speakers can get away with that when non-native speakers do them it enhances their accent. +Rafał B

    Hi Hadar. Thanks for the tips. I get it right when I go slowly with it, but as soon as I speed it up a little, I feel and hear myself touching the roof of the mouth just as you mentioned. So I know it sounds kind of weird thing. By the way, I'm from Afghanistan which means we have a deep r sound. So, is there any other way to get it right when going a little fast with it. Thanks a lot.

    In the words three and thrill I don't round my lips because of the sounds that are pronounced with spreading lips. The rolling R sound is physically impossible for me to pronounce.

    I'm so afraid of the "Th" sound after the "R" sound.. For example,
    More than: (I love english more than spanish),
    For the: ( I'm looking for the vacuum cleaner),
    Are there: ( How many countries are there in the world) and so on.
    Please make a video and explain to me what is the best way to make the R + Th sound.. 👍👌

      Try to say "over there"...my nightmare...not sticking out the tongue for "th" but touching the upper teeth is helpful (just make sure to give some air flow for the the sound so it doesnt sound like a "d"...also practising slowly, repeating over and over until your muscles get used to it

    But we wanted u to pronounce it repeatedly we know the mechanism of the word, I was expecting u to say it again and again to catch the sound of it, unfortunately, I have to check someone else, I like what u taught us but still missing the pronunciation, we want to hear the sound again and again and show us ur tongue and treat us like disable people if u don't mind.
