  • Wooden Boulder 6th September 2013 as the tide comes up the Dwyryd. Sculpted by David Nash in July 1978 and pushed into the stream that autumn. In 2002 the boulder makes it into the Dwyryd disappearing in 2003, reappearing in 2008 and again in August 2013. How long will it be around this time?

I saw the full film of Wooden Boulder in Sheffield a few years ago and it has stayed with me like no other art exhibition or installation has. I would dearly love to see it again, but sadly it does not appear to be accessible online.

“It is not lost, it is wherever it is.” David Nash - 2008. A profound metaphor for life’s journey, embracing time; nature, change and transformation. Sublime.🙏

I saw the Nash exhibition in Cardiff in May 2019 and watched the full film about the wooden boulder along with some of his work, I was trying to see if the full film was online to show my daughter when I found this, I really hope it gets found again soon.

I visited the exhibition in Cardiff too, then somewhat unexpectedly ended up living a short walk from the Dwyfor estuary. I really hoped the storms of February 2020 would bring wooden boulder back where we could see it, but sadly that doesn't seem to have happened.

I've seen a much longer film tracking the boulder all the way from where it was placed to it's last sighting out in the estuary, mesmerising. I saw the film in a gallery in Abersoch. does anyone have link? or maybe it's only available to view there.

Fabulous. The boulder is now heavier and more sedate. Just like me, it has lost its youthful exuberance and is now graceful and mature. Others may choose a different analogy........

Hello Huw! I'm writing my undergrad dissertation on David Nash and I'm planning on going to visit Ash Dome and Wooden Boulder, I was wondering if you know if wooden boulder is still there or where it has moved to? I keep hitting dead ends, any help would be massively appreciated!

Amazing. Is that Bronturnor Farm? It belongs to my mothers uncle and aunt, Evan and Beryl Jones. Many childhood caravan holidays spent there.

It's on the mudbank opposite Bryn Mawr, the Porthmadog side of Plas Tan y Bwlch. It was at Bronturnor between the bridge and the river for 8 years until 2002.

Ive seen pictures online of it having to winched up from under the bridge where the waterfall feeds under the farm road into the river. lh4.ggpht.com/_yiiPzeRfNBQ/TJRKKCczPtI/AAAAAAAABzY/ACgLVhlHZSA/s800/080423_boulder_5.jpg
