From what I've seen, a Binding Vow is a pact made using cursed energy either with yourself or with others, but it involves the soul or cursed energy in some ways. Binding vows with others are done verbally (in most cases) and ones with oneself are just restrictions you put on yourself. Let's use Nanami's Overtime for example, it limits his use of cursed energy to around 80 to 90%, but in exchange, he can access 110 or 120% of his cursed energy if he goes into overtime. This pact isn't very extreme, so breaking it would just mean that he wouldn't get the buff he gets in overtime. More extreme pacts will involve things like the destruction of your soul (like the one Sukuna made with Yuji), or perhaps even the eradication of cursed energy. Binding Vows made with someone else always have bigger consequences and restrictions than ones made with yourself.
