Your bike actually sounds very like a crossplane at idle with that rattling/ticking sound. Very different to the sound from my Akras when ticking over. Love the sound when moving hard down the road, and the paint scheme is great too.
Technically both pre 2009 yamaha R1s featuring a flatplane crank and post 2009 R1s with the crossplane crank are both inline 4s. I know its 4 years old but Im a grouch lol
If you just start it up for a quick warm up and ride off without high revving, I don't see why neighbor can't tolerate 5 mins of noise.. Especially is said neighbor has noisy kids/baby that scream and cry all day/night long. However if you idle the thing for 20 mins each time then yes, you are a jackass and deserve a selipar in your face.

this gen of r1 07,08 got better top end then r1 cp but no bottom end grunt like cp . r1 got nice sexy design but i cant understand why during this period they got famous reputation of having faulty magnet coils . not to mention throttle by wire make em even less reliable ..

I have a 2007 too, to me is the best model of the R1, so much beatiful... 2008 got problems in engine and 2009+ looks like a 2 cylinder engine
2007 and 08 have identical engines. Little trouble with eithir of them. I have had two 08`s with zero problems.
i have an 07 and only major issue ive ever had is the starter motor

Yoshimura gives the best sound to any bike in my opinion, not sure of power compared to the comp but I'm sure it on point
Each has their own personal preference, I personally never had much affinity with their pipes or sound else they would be on my bike too.

I don't know what is the model name of the exhaust but the exhaust itself is already modified that's why it sounds the way it is.
Probably a stupid question but what exactly does it mean to "gut" an exhaust?
Remove all catalytic converters / butterfly valves within the exhaust pipe system such as headers/mid to make the flow fully unrestricted.

I cannot be certain but I think the headers were gutted and the mufflers were modified as well hence the different sound.
