Good deal man, I'm doing a lot of other stuff to the bike in the coming weeks, I will probably post a vid on replacing the dry rotted fork boots. Technically they're for a mid 80s honda ATC 250, but I'm going to find out if they work. They look right anyways.
I’ve got a 1987 xl250 I’m starting to restore and get running. Right now I am cleaning the rust out of the fuel tank to red kote. Starting to take out carbs. I was wondering if if it was easier to take out the air box. Thanks for the tips!
I’ve got a 1985 xl350r, got a small issue on the restore, everything runs perfectly but if you blip the throttle fast to wide open the engine bogs down and sometimes dies, only if it’s blipped to wide open, not half or 3/4. Cleaned main jets very well and looked over anything else I could think of, any idea?? Thank you in advance!
Thats actually 100% normal since there's no accelerator pump. If you roll into it a a little slower than quick snaps, the vacuum is enough to keep fuel coming into the cylinder.
Im 51 just picked up same bike but a 97 for 8 hundred bucks, hard to believe but runs looks good but not as good as that. Awesome content and technical advice Bro... I'm from Gulf Coast lil late to the comments lol, but I just subd. Hate ta think how many feet of rope I pissed up old as I am but this lil bike might being back some memories and give me some new ones
Hello, I have an Honda xl250r 1987 but just recently the drive chain pulled off the chain slider mounted on the prolink swinging arm in front of the primary drive sprocket, however I don't know how this slider looks and could do with an image or video of this area so I can find a replacement part on Ebay, can you help please? Karl
Mine has a little flat spot at about 25% acceleration. I just Rev past that point but it's a little annoying at times at cruising speeds. Any advice I would greatly appreciate. TIA ✌😊
Secondary carburetor opens up around that throttle. They have no accelerator pump, so one of two things is happening - either you have some minor blockage in the secondary carb jet, or the secondary carburetor is opening too early. If that linkage to #2 hasnt been bent or adjusted, its just dirt in the second carb.
Hello...I'm trying to get my 86 XL 250R running again, the carburetors broke apart from each other, so that's a bit of an issue, but the biggest problem now is the small piece of hose between the two carbs to send the gas to the 2nd carb, it seems like it is a special part. I think it has a metal inner piece, is this correct? Does it have to be a specific part or can I just use some hose line? Anything would help at this point. Thx
Hi there. We recently picked up a 1986 xl250r. We are having a really rough time finding parts. Could you give us a few names of where you find parts? Thank you so much.
Yes I believe that is what I have on mine, the Clymer repair manual shows them as stock for sea level to 1500ft, something like that. My rebuild kits did not come with additional jets. AFAIK the "slow" jets are that tube stack with the tiny holes in them that the metering rod slides in and out of. I just cleaned up the OE tubes because the ones that came in the kits had burrs around the holes and I was like NOPE.
I'm rebuilding a 1987 xl 600 ... Does anybody know what rear fender is on that bike ? Piecing a rear fender together ( plastic, lights, license plate holder) has been DIFFICULT difficult to find! I've heard an aftermarket xr600 fender will work and it looks similar to this man's bike
Loosen up the cable holds on the carbutor and work em out. You'll probably have to open the throttle by hand at the carburetor to give yourself some slack.
Thanks for posting, just got an 87 xl250r that's been sitting for at least 10 years,
Thanks! I bought mine new when I was 15 yrs old.
Thank you for the tips. Keep the xl250r videos coming. I am starting to restore mine in the next few weeks

Great tips, and especially on sourcing that air cut diaphragm.

Nice bike, I just picked up an 86 XL250R and am beginning to fix it up.

You've only got to unbolt it and push it back about 1/2" or so, that should give you enough room.

Anymore than 25% throttle and it boggs down like its not getting enough fuel, its an 85 xl 250r. Any clues?
Secondary carb is clogged. 25-30% is where the secondary carb begins to open.

Its a plastic elbow with like a 15° bend in it and o-rings on both ends. Not sure what you can do there other than cross your fingers and search ebay.
14:15 I want to know where the idle adjustment screw on a 86 honda 600 xl with dual carbs?

anyone know where i can get the service manual/info and torque specs needed to do the top end of one of these?
Clymer used to print them. Maybe they still do.
25-29 ft/lbs on cylinder head bolts and studs
