We get the same thing with the river at my uni, jumping in (usually after staggering back from the uni bar at two in the morning) is an expellable offence
there was a lake near the student housing at my university called lake sif, short for lake syphilis, because if you jumped into it you would definitely catch duck syphilis and die. I'm pretty sure that isn't medically possible but it did help deter people from jumping in the incredibly gross lake hahaha
and you *know* there was ONE person who definitely ruined it for everyone else at some point. Like the people who decided lLITERAL COUCH SURFING down the campus river was a good idea. Yeeeaaaaah....that didn't go down well
my first year consisted of me crying about the most stupid things, never getting sleep because of the drug dealers in the next room and wondering how many people believed my first pathological lying roommate when she said I was a stripper then watching her be removed for drug dealing in our room!
I mean, at my university there are tons of geese, so maybe it's not a myth. The official university shop even sells goose plushies, and they made a website that tracks the geese so you can try and avoid them if you so wish.
the fact me and phil lived in the same student halls is incredible. i literally chose the uni of york because of phil talking about the geese. currently doing a postgrad… so thanks phil lol also, evil eye still does have the beds upstairs
I graduated a few years ago and once literally had to change my entire route to my lecture because there was a goose on the middle of the bridge I wanted to cross (the little one by the new building with the plant wall)
york resident here - it's always so funny watching videos from you about york, everytime me and my friends go for drinks we walk past a CERTAIN stationary store and say "amazingphil worked there". 'the gallery' is a kuda now, and evil eye still has beds upstairs lol
i'm (hopefully) finishing uni in 2 months, and it was the worst 4 years of my life so far, absolute existential horror. i've been severely depressed throughout the whole thing, didn't go out, didn't join clubs, didn't socialize. but this is also ok - not everyone's uni years are fun and memorable, so if you are in a similar situation as me, please don't feel like you're alone at this, you still have a lot of time ahead of you and brighter days are coming. loved the video btw
I am really sorry :( No, uni years are only one part of your life (and yours were very Covid heavy). It will be so much different later! I do not know anybody who would complain about that :) Fingers crossed :)
great video!! i just wanna say when phil said "who tells someone else about their sexuality five minutes after meeting?" i thought it was really interesting because i'm currently in school in scotland and when i meet another queer person, if they ask about my orientations i will gladly just tell them even if we've practically just met because i feel safe knowing they'll be cool about it. i think that's an interesting difference between generations of young queers :)
same here, and I'm 24. I just automatically assume that people my age (18-30) aren't homophobic and so far I haven't made any experiences to the contrary
The difference is palpable! Imagine the fear and shame you'd feel being asked that in the past when people used the word gay to say something is bad, and now, for the most part, that fear and shame has turned to pride and joy. This is all thanks to queer activists. This is why we need LGBTQ pride!
I feel like the change happened pretty recently too, when I started high school same-sex marriage wasn't even legal in my country. I'm graduating this year and whilst yeah politicians still suck especially towards trans people, being LGBT has been way more normalised and accepted.

I'm now happier than I've ever been and more confident in myself and the path I'm taking than I've ever been. it's okay to take time to sort yourself out. you deserve it, and whatever you end up doing, you'll be much more prepared for it. Hey Phil! I’m currently binging your videos from the last 2 years because I’ve not been keeping up and I remember why you were my comfort person! You still are! Love Steve the pigeon btw! You’re a gem for caring for him! Thankyou for still being around and being you! I hope you’re well and happy! ❤️

i’ve been watching phil’s videos for like 10 years and i so appreciate the fact that it’s so similar to the content i originally subscribed for. i love how phil has continued to be himself for so long. and the firework effect never gets old.

This is my first year at uni. It's terrifying and i'm honestly such a mess, scared of the new things and people, adult stuff, future and everything in general. This video cheered me up a bit, it was kinda comforting to listen to someone who have already lived through that all 💖 Like, maybe i'll survive somehow, too..? 😂 Edit: Wow, thanks everyone for sharing your experience and over all just the kind words, I really appreciate it 💖 You guys are awesome!
:) You will :) Nearly everybody feels like that, just they do not talk about it. Enjoy yourself. I took it too seriously and it was not good. Finished it, got the best out of uni but did not have as much fun as I should have. Good friends from uni are the best and you can share your professional life with them too ( and you can help each other too).
Honestly my first semester at uni was a complete mess and made me question if I'd made the right decision by going to uni. I graduate in a month and a half and I really don't want it to end. Tldr, it might take a bit of time but I'm sure you'll love it 😊
My first year in college was a mess. My first semester in particular! I totally failed the whole semester (literally failed my classes) because my mental health was a mess and I was terrified of the future and being an adult. Trust me you’ll be fine :) I’ve figured out how to make it to 27 with two college degrees. Im getting married this year and I still don’t feel like an adult! Don’t let adulthood scare you. We’re all just figuring it out as we go
I also failed my first semester bc of poor mental health (2020 being my final year in hs killed me ugh) but I've now returned after half a year off and I'm so much better for it. Tbh for me it was a blessing bc this year the teachers I disliked were oddly replaced by brilliant ones (like a miracle) and my cohort is way better too. Aside from it being odd that my initial friends are now in the year above, everything is heaps better bc I restarted my course with way more knowledge of what's required and also with some experience of being an adult. I've basically learnt that things will usually turn out for the best and so much good has come from what was so scary and horrible at the time (failing the first semester)
I have graduated and now work as the President of my unis SU and I still cannot talk about unis or student life without the whole part about college in John Mulany's 'Kid Gorgeous' playing in my head "What did I get for my money? A weird cinderblock room with a reservoir dogs poster on it. And the first real heartbreak of my life. And probably HPV. And then we called it a day"
Before I even clicked I knew Willow disco would get a mention. I grew up in York and it closed when I was 20/21 so I think I was part of the last generation to enjoy the magic ✨🪩 I miss it 😭
I loved this tour!! I'm my country there are no campuses like this so it was so interesting and nice to explore York. And also hey!! I've been watching your videos since I was like, 13, and now I'm 22 and I'm still around!! I hope you take us back to York soon :D
so surreal to see phil, someone i've been following for years, talk about the university i am currently almost finished with. i had no idea that's where he graduated from when i'd first applied either!
This video made me cry. I remember watching you talk about York in 2012 when I was 11, now I'm 20 and I am about to graduate from there. Thank you for inspiring me for all these years Phil :))
my grandmother died recently and seeing the notification for your channel after so long made me so happy thank you for being my light of joy in this moment of darkness.
I am currently freaking out watching this video as I am a first year at york and have been a fan of phil for years now!! It is so cool knowing I walk around the campus that he did too (no messy drunk photos of me on some stairs though!)
I remember watching his college stories when I was younger thinking that time for me was so far away. Years later, I’m now an equally messy college student. Crazy
Love this video! Thanks phil!! My campus has HUGE monitor lizards roaming around freely everywhere. They're potentially dangerous but as there are plenty of food in the campus (we have big ponds with fish and fruit trees etc) they are not known to attack people. We keep our distance anyway.
Damn, we have more cats than students here at Winchester, there's our favourite Casper, the buildings are all cat friendly and they have their own homes in one of the cafe's, seeing him walk around campus is the highpoint of our days
Gallery is now called Kuda and Willow was definitely the best night out in York hands down. People travelled from abroad to go the last night it was open and Tommy (the owner) just let people take whatever they wanted. There's stories about people taking the chairs home all the way to London and carrying them on the tube. Also, we used to live on the same street!
I’ve been to three universities and I’m starting to think that the longer you attend, the bigger a mess you are, but the better you deal with it. Like, at undergrad, i was all over the place and STRESSED but now I’m in grad school, and I’m still a mess, but I’ve accepted it and everyone’s at peace
I’ve been watching you since I was 12, I’m 19 now and going to university next week, it feels so weirdly fitting that you posted this video today (btw, I’m a philosophy student lol)
So I rage quit my job a couple months back and I’m so bored and do nothing but interview and apply for jobs atm so like thank u so much for the skillshare free month!! I might actually have something to do!
i went to york st. john and this video was an absolute throwback! willow closed in my 2nd year and let me tell you, nights out in 3rd year were just disappointing without ending in willow drinking £1 tequila shots, dancing to s club 7 and eating free prawn crackers!
haha I love phil talking about York, i go their sometimes and it’s so cool that he went their too lol. i hope that he makes another video like this he should talk about longboi
Watching this as a student at the Uni of York now so this was surreal to watch lmao, having just been in most of these places in the last few days hahah. Also a disturbing reminder that in a few months I'll not be a student here anymore :')
This makes me wish I was a uni student in England I'm in the last year of university and it's really just going to lectures and doing homework. There's no afterschool activities, societies aren't a thing, we get buried in homework every day. Absolutely no fun. I keep hearing from my British friends about the clubs they were joining and everything. I really wish I went to university with them :(( And may I add - the pandemic caused me to spend most of my student life studying from home. >:( So laaaaaame
This has the EXACT energy of my dad taking tiny child me to visit his alma mater for the first time and I love it 😂 even though we’re only two years apart I love this concept Phil, what a unique use of Google maps
even if my uni experience is so different from yours this is still comforting in a way especially now that I'm really struggling with keeping my head above water lmao thx Phil
I've been watching your videos for so long that this feels like my dad telling us a story, i can't imagine a life where i didn't learn many things from you phil
Most of us are probably suffering in collage while Phil being a lil happy go lucky guy he is, made tons of funny and wholesome memories with a lil embarrassing ones
omg i thought i was alone in having the sexuality introduction in uni accommodation. i conveniently went to the toilet as soon as it was asked, which may have been very obvious of me 😭
okay this is so weird that you've made this haha i'm at york uni now and it's so strange to hear you talking about all of these places that i go to everyday haha
You looking around York gives me so much nostalgia! I took a visit there when I was 14 and I loved it so much!! Such a beautiful place and missing it a lot! Hopefully I get to visit again!
My sister went to York and did Environmental Geography so she was in that gorgeous plant building! Also the main fact that I learnt about York Uni was that it has the highest duck density in the UK, so you're not far off with the geese ahahhaha
I’ve been watching your videos for years, and back then I lived in a whole different country, hell, I even went to your Interactive Introverts show there. But now that I’ve moved to the UK and go to a school in York, I’m very glad you shared your experiences living here. Very relatable, especially the geese.
I almost ended up at York Uni, I recognise so many of these places from the open day. After a long sequence of events I ended up at Durham instead. I remember the big lake with all the geese though. The Jorvik Museum is one of my favourite places, absolutely recommend if anyone is visiting.
I hadn’t ever come across yours or dans videos ….. long story short = I saw dans new video, loved it, watched a video of his with the two of you, loved that, and now I am subscribed to you and Dan and I now have years worth of content from the both of you to catch up on. So happy with my new discoveries today!! 🥰☺️😇 xoxox
I'm at University of York right now on exchange! It feels like you just walked past the prison block I'm living in. It's so interesting to see it from your point of view and your nostalgic feelings towards it. Personally, I just want to leave this place...
I was thinking imagine if someone who is at that university recreated those iconic photos but I thought everyone there probably doesn't know him. I guess it is a small world after all!
@@prayingmantis8148 idk, in the first week I got there they had a presentation and had Phil on screen as one of the famous alumni. I remember being excited bc I went to Halifax and I’m doing the same coursez
@@jade3886 I remember the same. Started in 2017 and Phil was one of the one “famous alumni” names I recognised. I now know more but I definitely remember thinking how cool it was to be at the same uni as Phil and Mad Captain Tom Scott (who we kept trying to encourage to come back during YUSU elections)
I'm currently studying at York uni rn in Vanbrugh college! On our first day of 1st year, we had a welcoming talk with a slideshow of famous alumni and it was kinda surreal seeing AmazingPhil pop up after watching his videos since I was 14.
from a York student who graduated last September: yeah, what you called the Gallery is now Kuda--they still had Tuesday student nights at least until COVID. Willow--I think that's the closed bar you were sad about (?)--was still remembered fondly. There was an on-campus event called Marmite with free prawn crackers for no apparent reason and I'm told it was because they were trying to be like Willow, with the Chinese restaurant/club mix vibe. Evil Eye do still have beds upstairs and yes, the cocktails are so good and I would also side-eye someone who only wanted beer there!
I loved revisiting uni times through this video and also my childhood in York 🥰 We were in the same accommodation block (Wentworth Pride!). It’s nice to remember what a great uni experience it was before it was messed up by covid 😢
Yay, new video! I'm from Scotland but I was just in York visiting my Great Auntie, we went to the Shambles, I loved hearing all the 2006 Phil accents ('ello my name is Phil and welcome to ma furst video blog')
I just finished my associate degree and our campus was so full of geese they were our mascot. I can't tell you how many times I was late to class because the campus roads were just clogged with geese
Phil going from plant murderer to plant dad is character development. Authors, take notes
I thought this said “planet” and was so confused lmao
enemies to lovers
And the fact that it ties in with his youtube career! What a build up and such a pay off!

my grandmother died recently and seeing the notification for your channel after so long made me so happy thank you for being my light of joy in this moment of darkness.
I am currently freaking out watching this video as I am a first year at york and have been a fan of phil for years now!! It is so cool knowing I walk around the campus that he did too (no messy drunk photos of me on some stairs though!)
Would also like to add, the legalise catboy merch will be worn around campus with pride
I remember watching his college stories when I was younger thinking that time for me was so far away. Years later, I’m now an equally messy college student. Crazy
Vodka drunk college boy Phil seems so different from current Phil, and I feel like we need to bring vodka into these videos for science.
Love this video! Thanks phil!! My campus has HUGE monitor lizards roaming around freely everywhere. They're potentially dangerous but as there are plenty of food in the campus (we have big ponds with fish and fruit trees etc) they are not known to attack people. We keep our distance anyway.
Where is this!?
Omg monitor lizards?? That'd be so cool and scary my drunk ass would definitely get in trouble ...
I've never heard of that kind of lizard so I thought you were saying that the lizards are hall monitors
@@Sentientmatter8 Thailand!
@@prayingmantis8148 google them! They are majestic beasts 😁
Damn, we have more cats than students here at Winchester, there's our favourite Casper, the buildings are all cat friendly and they have their own homes in one of the cafe's, seeing him walk around campus is the highpoint of our days
Casper literally got me through so many nights in Cyber 😂 the most hard working cat!
sister went to PSC, I was bombarded by pics a duo of "st James" cats (?) often before lockdown
Like, at undergrad, i was all over the place and STRESSED but now I’m in grad school, and I’m still a mess, but I’ve accepted it and everyone’s at peace
it's comforting to know we all went FERAL at uni
i feel like I've come full circle as I started watching Phil when I was 10. I'm now about to turn 19 and am in my first year at York AHHHHHHHHHH
Thanks!
I’ve been watching you since I was 12, I’m 19 now and going to university next week, it feels so weirdly fitting that you posted this video today (btw, I’m a philosophy student lol)
5:48 “situation where I should not have been on top” *hard cut from that innuendo nightmare*
So I rage quit my job a couple months back and I’m so bored and do nothing but interview and apply for jobs atm so like thank u so much for the skillshare free month!! I might actually have something to do!
I’m literally in love with this video it’s such a comfort video
i’m starting uni next year !! so it’s nerve wracking and exciting to hear your stories
i went to york st. john and this video was an absolute throwback! willow closed in my 2nd year and let me tell you, nights out in 3rd year were just disappointing without ending in willow drinking £1 tequila shots, dancing to s club 7 and eating free prawn crackers!
you’re rocking the green shirt !! productive plant parent aesthetic
haha I love phil talking about York, i go their sometimes and it’s so cool that he went their too lol. i hope that he makes another video like this
he should talk about longboi
We love character growth. Congrats plant dad!!
Watching this as a student at the Uni of York now so this was surreal to watch lmao, having just been in most of these places in the last few days hahah. Also a disturbing reminder that in a few months I'll not be a student here anymore :')
I know how u feel lol I grew up in York I know all these streets so well
it’s so surreal definitely!! i’m a first year rn haha
This makes me wish I was a uni student in England
I'm in the last year of university and it's really just going to lectures and doing homework. There's no afterschool activities, societies aren't a thing, we get buried in homework every day. Absolutely no fun. I keep hearing from my British friends about the clubs they were joining and everything. I really wish I went to university with them :((
And may I add - the pandemic caused me to spend most of my student life studying from home. >:(
So laaaaaame
damn, it’s almost as if I wrote this comment 😅
I feel you :(
congratulations on graduating (soon) though, also nice name, ptv is the best
Damn what country are you from?
@@liyre4189 Yeah I'm curious too!
Same T_T
OMG Hogsmede in the HP movies was fashioned after Shambles!! I would LOVE to go there!
This has the EXACT energy of my dad taking tiny child me to visit his alma mater for the first time and I love it 😂 even though we’re only two years apart I love this concept Phil, what a unique use of Google maps
I don't think I ever actually went to Younger Court and I'm not a regular watcher but this brought back nostalgia! Hope you're well!
even if my uni experience is so different from yours this is still comforting in a way especially now that I'm really struggling with keeping my head above water lmao thx Phil
i missed you so much phil
I've been watching your videos for so long that this feels like my dad telling us a story, i can't imagine a life where i didn't learn many things from you phil
i’m at university of york and had no idea phil went there as well!!
I’m currently contemplating if I should work towards going to uni or just stay at college and this video helped with the cons list
PLEASE I need like 10 other videos about your uni time asap. I could listen to these for hours
Ahh i loved joining you on this lil nostalgia trip! so fun to hear more stories from your uni days
I feel like we need closure on how he became the goose king.
i’ve just realised that the universities i’ve been accepted to are York and Manchester,, this fandom is deep in my subconscious
Most of us are probably suffering in collage while Phil being a lil happy go lucky guy he is, made tons of funny and wholesome memories with a lil embarrassing ones
I'm currently a mess at university
As a current Uni of York student, it’s nice to see that the ‘Uni experience’ does not change over time 😅
good vibes from this video
omg i thought i was alone in having the sexuality introduction in uni accommodation. i conveniently went to the toilet as soon as it was asked, which may have been very obvious of me 😭
The way he had a blanket completely of dish rags killed me 😭😭😭
can confirm, at Bath university the ducks are so spoilt they will peck your food right out your hand
Aw, I left last year and still miss the ducks! They were so friendly
The fact Phil referenced Drag race with the “Bring back my geese” song made me happy for some reason
okay this is so weird that you've made this haha i'm at york uni now and it's so strange to hear you talking about all of these places that i go to everyday haha
You looking around York gives me so much nostalgia! I took a visit there when I was 14 and I loved it so much!! Such a beautiful place and missing it a lot! Hopefully I get to visit again!
me, current uni student: nice to know we're all the same,, a strong mess
My sister went to York and did Environmental Geography so she was in that gorgeous plant building! Also the main fact that I learnt about York Uni was that it has the highest duck density in the UK, so you're not far off with the geese ahahhaha
My guide dogs first time on campus, she led me to a flock of geese. Definitely more geese than students
I had an en suite in my first year uni accomodation and to this day I've never been more grateful for anything ever
Been watching this weirdo since I was thirteen and I'm almost done with year one of university :') ty for the chaos, I'm gonna watch this now
I’ve been watching your videos for years, and back then I lived in a whole different country, hell, I even went to your Interactive Introverts show there.
Oh that's cool! My sister went to Durham too and I actually went to her graduation recently
ok the photo at 3:17 is iconic (teatowel blanket) and very relatable as a uni student
🥰☺️😇 xoxox
your vids always make me giggle, thank u for being u 🕴🏻
Love this video so much, Phil! Thanks for sharing! Makes me miss my years at university so much. Happiest and healthiest wishes to you and Dan
from a York student who graduated last September: yeah, what you called the Gallery is now Kuda--they still had Tuesday student nights at least until COVID.
Both of the unis I went to were super different from this but it was still super nostalgic to watch!! So many memories...
I loved revisiting uni times through this video and also my childhood in York 🥰 We were in the same accommodation block (Wentworth Pride!). It’s nice to remember what a great uni experience it was before it was messed up by covid 😢
My best friend lives in York so it was nice to see some places I know 😊 also still love Phil's stories after all these years of being a subscriber 💞
I can't tell you how many times I was late to class because the campus roads were just clogged with geese
the thriving plants and your green shirt are such an immaculate vibe together ✨️
I swear Phil you wasn’t a mess you was just uniquely weird 😂
LMAO bless his heart
1. phil i love ur jumper so much
2. i wanna go to york now wtf
