I think Zach Orr also deserves some credit for being willing to accept help when he was struggling as a rookie DC with no prior play calling experience, and it was good of the Ravens to be pretty patient with Orr like they were when Macdonald struggled a bit early on, but not just leave him to sink or swim on his own when it wasn't working. One of the moves the Ravens made that doesn't get mentioned a lot was bringing former DC Dean Pees back as an advisor mid-season.
Williams is only 28. Not that old. The dude just looked absolutely lost in coverage. There were multiple big plays he gave up against the Bengals specifically where he was completely out of position. Its wild how a veteran safety can look that bad this often
@@anthonyanderson9303I mean Elliot couldn't stay healthy for the Ravens. And then he went to multiple different teams on small one year deals. So it's not like he was coveted or good/healthy enough to invest money into. Williams was at the time.
I think what Zach Orr had to learn (and was probably helped by the mid season addition of Vet Def. coordinator Dean Pees) is that you can’t just pickup from what you were doing last year and expect it to just work.
the blitz and sim pressure reduction tracks with the simplification of the defense. like a simple marinana sauce- don't jazz it up and add in unnecessary flourishes, just perfect execution of a simple gameplan. kinda like SEA LOB
Brandon Stephens is a complete liability at corner. Not a bad player in terms of sticky coverage but too many penalties and he simply can’t ever locate the football
Stephens always takes the top dog receiver. He’s gonna give up numbers I don’t see any other corner in the team asking to cover Pickens, chase, barbers, mclaurin
Exactly! That plus his lack of physicality/apprehension to tackle post shoulder injury. These PFF talking heads are clueless. They literally said that Marlon Humphrey had issues with not wanting to play the run. It is literally what he lives for, to be physical. All you had to do is watch 1 complete game that the man has ever played since college to see that.
@Fergieh8er12 The Ravens revised his deal setting up a post June 1st designation and he will most likely be released, then, but his benching had nothing to do with him not buying in to what Orr is doing, he just simply wasn't playing well. Hell, he wasn't playing particularly great under MacDonald last season.
Why MWill thrived with MM last 2 yrs cuz he was just doing wat he does best. Deepest man, playin over the top. Not too much disguise not too much rolling no man no box
Consider getting Tre’davious White more snaps for Brandon Stephens, particularly on 3rd down. As good as Stephens is at staying in phase, he just doesn’t find the ball. I know it’s difficult but it’s leading to too many penalties and big plays outside. White has been real solid with his snaps
But also the 2 times we played the bengals is when we were mugging, over blitzing, over disguising. Orr was doing way too much and LBs & Safeties were lost. U notice since the bye we simplified the D. Less blitz less mugg less rotation. The way we play now MWill cud do.
@ roquan was gettin his ass toasted as well. The point is he was an allpro doin his strength lol dont switch wat ppl are good at. But oh well shit happens

Exactly because ego’s can undermine your judgement

Ravens need versatile players and Marcus was just a true free safety. Not really sure why the ravens ever picked him up
But injuries can "age" a body quickly. He was hurt for two years in a row and was never the same.
@@Fergieh8er12and not everyone ages the same. some dudes just lose it earlier, some later

Putting Marlon in the slot and Ardarius Washington stepping up big time. Williams either looked banged up or disinterested

Brandon Stevens still gives up big plays. Maybe White should split time with him.
Spell the man's damn name right, it's Stephens!
Brandon Stephens is a complete liability at corner. Not a bad player in terms of sticky coverage but too many penalties and he simply can’t ever locate the football
@mirzetsalihovic1 Brandon probably and most likely will walk as a free agent after he helps the Ravens win the Superbowl in a few weeks.
Go Ravens!
Stephens always takes the top dog receiver. He’s gonna give up numbers

Stephen's is an enigma man. He actually plays pretty sticky coverage, but he is atrocious at playing the ball.
It’s cray coming into the season on paper this looked like a top 5 defense. It was so odd how bad they were and mainly was the backend the entire time
And that was projected to be our defensive strength lol
Just let the best safety play safety.
There. Saved the Ravens millions.
Ravens bought Williams before they knew they'd be able to draft Hamilton. Williams fall-off also needs to be studied.
Marcus Williams athletic ability isn’t an issue. He just completely failed to buy into to Orrs defense. He was completely lost.
Exactly! That plus his lack of physicality/apprehension to tackle post shoulder injury.

Well, if he didn't "buy" into it he wasn't "lost" he was an insubordinate failure and lucky he wasn't outright released.
@@darnellmiller1215he wasn't released because we will save much more money if we release him next free agency.
He's never been good at tackling though.

What changes do you think the Ravens need to make on defense going into the playoffs?
Not a darn thing

None. I think we've dialed in at the perfect time. Keep the penalties down, win the turnover battle, and play like the better team.
You didn’t mention the change at LB and Simpson getting benched or bring in Dean Pees as a consultant

The man was an all pro that we paid ~18 mil a year. If he can't handle complex, he should look in the mirror.

Marcus Williams is 27-28
AR'DARIUS WASHINGTON 😤
Orr struggled… let’s not make him a Savant. Dean Pees came in, and helped restructure the defense.
I thought Humphrey always played the slot?
Over the past few years they started playing him there a bit more, but he was mainly outside for his career
He was playing outside most of the year but is now playing more slot with Wiggins holding down the outside.
Naw Marlo was a lock down outside corner!!! But he was always a BEAST in the slot!!!!
Facing bad offenses always makes it look like your defense is fixed
They played 5 playoffs teams during this 7 game stretch but sure bad offenses.
