Perez suffers from the same problem Lewis is. They simply don't trust the car. Perez likes rear stable cars, but the RB20 is an edgy strong front-end kind of car. This is why his father was saying the team designed the car around Max, but the Red Bulls always had a strong front-end because of the high rake they used the run. Besides that, are you sure they have a better driver as a replacement. Ricciardo and Tsunoda also are not consistent. Lawson left last year a good impression, but after the experiences with Gasly and Albon, do you really want to put a rookie next to Max in such a high pressure environment? However, if Ricciardo doesn't improve within the next few races, I suspect Marko will pull a De Vries on Ricciardo and replace him with Lawson. If Lawson does as well as last season, maybe he can promote to the big team. And let's not forget, Max doesn't seem to have off days. Most likely because the only thing he does is racing. If he isn't racing for Red Bull (on track or their simulator), you'll find him online where he is also one of the best in all kind of different cars... Leclerc is facing a whole different problem. Sainz was dropped in favor of Leclerc, but Sainz seems to be one more consistent at the moment. That puts a lot of pressure on Leclerc to prove he is worth that Ferrari seat (next to Hamilton).
@2Fast4Mellow the car favours fast drivers, that's why perez can't hang. Having an aggressive front not only makes for a faster car but, if done right, also has less tyre wear.
James Allison said the Mercedes car gets it's best times when it's not being hustled around the track. Probably true because to me Lewis seemed to be overdriving the car trying to get the most out of it.
Max delivering once again… Nice balance right off the bat. Really hard to know how the car is since Checo is consistently p7 p8. He isn’t that bad is he, to be so low all the time in the best car?
It's not the best car for some time now. Perez' performance is partly evidence for that. Norris didn't take turn 1 well.., in fact you could call it a mistake. Lando turned in too early and had to correct. Also turn 3 from Lando was not the best. I don't see any big corrections on Max' onboard. Again it seems (another) pole lost for Lando making mistakes and not being as clinical as Max.
Given the gap between Max & Checo, Redbull perhaps only appears dominant bcz of Max's performance & there's no way Checo is that bad of a driver. Looking back at Mercedes dominance, Botas at times got destroyed by Max in the same races where Lewis was winning by huge margins. For whatever reason it has become a norm to overlook & quickly move on Max's exceptional performances by diverting towards his "amazing" car, never has a team's chief technical officer talked about more on TV like today & often all the time it's Redbull's Adrien Newey. And if Adrien Newey's car is that good why is Checo not bringing the same results??
I think its a tiny bit of Max being a masterful driver and a lot of Perez being that bad. Lets be honest the Redbull car this year is mighty even if it has been matched by Mclaren in some races and Perez is too far behind. If Max was outperforming the car massively (like George Russell in a Williams) there would be some circuits where he would only finish mid pack but he is consistently winning so thats not the case. If Perez driving speed was in decline there would still be some races where he would get decent finishes because of the car and from more forgiving circuits, thats fairly consistent with this season.
