I see that contention as a disservice to brilliant Max; he does not need these outside influences, positive and negative, to drive for the win every race whatever the circumstances or condition of the car. He is the very personification of determined self motivation - an amazing driver who, in a sense, ceases to amaze; he just exceeds expectation. Although not his number one fan, I am a realist.
-5 places grid penalty -a questionable VSC timing in the sprint -a questionable red flag in the race -starting position 17 with spectacular overtakings -Norris, who went off track, managed to lose the lead to Russel, did not manage to overtake anybody and went off track multiple times (without being punished, of course): "it was all luck."
I always liked Norris, but after this race he made the "it's not talent, it's just luck" comment.. unbelievable. Even after Verstappen was always so happy for him to win in Miami. Norris lost me as a fan today. Bah.
@pantrofl “I don’t really like to talk about it, but compared to Lance Stroll, my father [worth £200m] is not nearly as wealthy,” - Lando Norris I wonder if Norris sees himself as talented or lucky...
Didn't he also tell Hamilton that obviously he won a lot because he had the fastest car? The guy is weird, clearly good with people, quick to blame himself yet every now and then such comments come out.
Im one of the biggest verstappen fans since 2015. I watched every race from him and he has a lot of 10/10 races but today he even surprised me. This was unbelievable
Me too. F1 fan from 1998 and Max fan from 2015. This was his most impressive drive out of all the races I have seen him do. Also, what a moment to do it considering his misfortune during qualifying and the implications for the championship. Norris and McLaren for sure believed they would score big today on Max. Max just did a 180 on them. Unbelievable!
@ Yeah, what I said kind of sounded like a little bit of a shot at Lewis, but I didn’t mean that at all. Both of them have had great drives at Interlagos over the years 👍
These type of performances got Max into F1 at a very young age. Helmut Marko witnessed that during Max' F3 races and picked him up immediately back then.
@@Time4utube I think you referring to Spain 2016 when Max got his first win. Tipped the hat and referred to him as the talent of the century. I can only imagine how he would have reacted to what we witnessed today but he surely saw something of the great in him and it came out today.
Sebastian Vettel did something similar in the same track in 2012 recovering himself after being crashed by Bruno Senna and coming back after being backwards in the back of the grid.
Too true mate, well said. One thing though, out of sheer curiosity, can you please tell me what the eff unicum is 😂 all I'm getting is a Hungarian spirit
Really not a Max fan - but that was an incredible performance, I think luck should be replaced with grit and determination. I usually complain about some of his track antics, but as you mentioned today was just a masterclass. As fans of the sport we should make the most of these rare races.
To accolades the great got in F1 was often after they stopped their F1 career. If you are not a Max fan, you focus more on the extremes of his driving. Max knows the rules very well and is able to read between the lines/rule and continuously finds holes in the regulations that he is able to take advantage of. When pressured, he often drives on the edge of what is allowed (or tolerated). The massive respect for his driving will come probably 5 years after he left F1. One thing that I still cannot explain is why the safetycar came out during the middle of the race. There were some people spinning in turns 1-3 but most were able to keep it on track. The car came out of nothing, no major accidents at that time and to my opinion due to the slow speed, the tires of Colopinto's car lost temperature because of the (relative) slow speed of the safety car, which makes it much easier to spin one of the wheel and turn into a wall.
British media a disgrace, all ran off after he won rather then celebrate his genius, never mind old Lewis driving Sennas car , Max is more like Senna than lulu will ever be .
You can't argue about perfection! Historical win and will be an all time classic! If you can drive a race like that in the wet with such incredible pressure on you, wow...
Without a doubt, this was the most impressive victory Max has ever scored. He made up 10 spots in the first few laps and then dispatched everyone else after the restart with finesse and no DRS. All of his overtakes were clean and superbly executed. 10/10, no notes.
Today Max also broke the long standing record from Michael Schumacher for the longest consecutive lead in the WDC. It is not a huge thing, but all those records that he sets add up, and it does say something about the unique quality from a driver. These type of records are not broken by every generation of drivers. Last week I said that he made the wrong bet by the way that he drove, today I witnessed a historical race from the same man. I still had the 2016 Inter Lagos race fresh in my mind, so I knew that there was the possibility for something special in these wet conditions, but I never ever could have imagined that it would end up in this absolute Masterclass. Quite frankly I had trouble with controlling my tears, and I never had that issue before. What a great way to silence his critics, especially the very disgraceful British media. (the sky gang).
when he was not passed Q2 by red flag, added by grid penalty, what came to my mind was a chance to witness 2016 sao paulo part II. 2016 mode is ON. simply lovely.
@@myvsa2953 When I was young I did not fully understand why people could get so emotional from watching F1. Today, and now that I am older, I learned why. People were talking trash about Max, even saying that he should be banned from F1. But today he showed that he belongs next to the all time greatest drivers in the history of the sport. And I realized that I watched something that is historical for the sport, but also for my country.
For me, personally, this was Max's Senna at Donnington moment ! Absolute mastery on display and an enormous feather in Red Bull's cap. Bravo to both Max and the whole team!
Absolutly. Up there with Fangio at Nurburgring ‘57, Senna at Donnington ‘93 and Schumi in Barcelona 96 as one of the greatest races ever driven. We witnessed history today.
That shows the hate they have and bring to the fans.... no respect at all for one of the greatest drives ever.... only 5 other times an driver one from p17 or less won an race in 1100 races
Getting away with a 5000,- fine is hilarious. There could have been marshalls on the track dealing with Stroll's car and maybe some debrie. Someone has to look into the regulations to see if this is a suitable punishment. And talking about corruption: Let's take a look at 2 other situations that weren't even under investigation. Lando went of track and went back on track missing Russel by just a few inches. Dangerous re-entry anyone? It was not even noted. Then the 2nd time he went of track. He would have lost a lot of positions, if it wasn't for the fact he short-cutted turn 2, hit the throttle and went back on track only loosing 1 position. Again: not even noted, let alone investigated. I will not go as far to call the stewards corrupt, but they are defenitely biased. If any of those 3 facts were done by Max, at least one of them would have resulted in a penalty.
Thanx Peter again for a fair a truthful analysis .... Ocon said in the press conference he asked Max after the race "How did you have that grip to pass me"
Not a huge Max fan, but this drive totally eclipsed every driver in the race. Showed he’s the best on the grid. Rain races always put the real men at the front.
It's not over yet, but it feels like it's over. Norris knows it. He had major hopes for scoring big on Max after qualifying. Talking about Max doing a 180 to McLaren and Norris.
When I watched this race, and especially the first 12 laps I got the same feeling I did when I watched those two purple sectors in Jeddah 2021. You got this feeling that you’re watching that rear moment when an athlete goes beyond what’s thought to be possible. He shouldn’t be able to extract that performance from the car in the situation that he was, yet he did. Just a sight to behold, and honestly quite emotional.
Haha, funny joke 🤣 I mean all the Brit pundits are bad at it - but he is the worst Hamilton apologist by far. Can't wait to see his lingual gymnastics next year when Leclerc slaughters him.
Wrong. "Simply lovely" at the end is what Max has said time and time and time before. Lando being a bad loser and a worse winner aped Max at Zandvoort.
Exactly.. Lando "stole" his phrase, most likely to say " cheerfully" Ha ha I can win too!! ha ha, I got your homerace!!" This one was Max saying " Ha ha, eat a big fat $* Lando!"
@@FrancisFjordCupola This season a get a bit disappointed in both Lando his behaviour and more importantly his driving. I was hoping for better when he would have the tools. I think Russell is the best British driver atm. (No hate to Lewis, I just see him on the way out)
Lando sounded so butthurt after the race. Him saying over and over again it was just luck and not talent was ridiculous. With how max was the only person on track who was able to consistently pass people and drs being disabled, id argue this race was more talent related than a whole lot of others. Sure max got the red flag but max was the one who made his tires last until that point while lando was begging to come in for tires because he wasnt able to make a pass on track. Isnt it always said rain is the great equalizer? Thats normally what takes the better car advantage away and is more about who is sitting in the car.
I want to thank the FIA, in particular J Herbert and the SkyF1 team for invigorating Max, which contributed a lot to this win, keep bashing onto that great driver, making him stronger while you are at it, many thanks. Not a fan of Max and was hoping the championship fight would have been closer after qualifying 17. Today Max showed why he’s a 3 time champion and one of all time greats. You can’t argue with the result and talent he displayed today.
I think it was his best race and win. Never thought he would still beat his races of 2016 when he surprised the world of F1 at this stage in his career. But he just did.
This is probably most impressive championship that Max has got. Half of the year he had only 3rd fastest car and still winning the title with big margin. He never gave big point swing for Lando even in Singapore. This year Max proved that he dont need fastest car to win the title.
U know the reason Marko wanted Max when he was a 16 yr old? it was raining in Germany during a F3 race and Max was constantly lapping more than 2 seconds quicker than the rest of the field. Now let that sink in! ;)
Lando showed after the race how sour and entitled he is. Max drove very well today. Granted, he had some luck, but he showed immense skill in getting into a groove and staying there.
Sky sports was crying co loud being super silent after Max overtook Lando. Before that Sky was looking for every mistake of Max and commenting his every move or decision. Cry Brundle and company, cry.
I remember on a lap where Chandhok made a big deal about max doing a snap oversteer and losing 0.2s gap to leclerc. And then a minute later Norris nearly went off track in Juncao corner chasing Russel and he didn't say a thing. This is only one of many examples of blatant bias and cherry picking. Sky sports commentators are a bunch of clowns indeed.
Max fan here , come on peope if you would be Lando and most likely losing the championship get interviewed just after the race your mind isn't ready to pay respect.. Happened to Max too! People shouldn't judge so hard if the driver is not himself directly after a dissapointing race. We all have emotions i hope and we all say something we shouldn't under stress and heavy emotions.
Next profession of Lando; breaking or destroying winning cups. It must be frustrating for him to see Max beating him. He needs to behave more like an adult
The composure that Max showed during the race was amazing... He never went off track once. Phenomenal driving! Perhaps his best ever? Considering the bizarre qualifying earlier the day, and McLaren becoming so cocky, it made Max's victory even sweeter.. 🎉😅 Well done to Alpine as well, superb driving by Ocon and Gasly. They deserve it after so much turmoil. F1 is a great sport to follow haha ❤
Johnny Herbert wants to penalize Max for not shaving this morning. “He makes F1 looks bad, especially for the kids watching F1”. Thank God he’s missing now…
Now Lewis and Fernando are well past it there’s no one on this grid anywhere near the level of max. Brilliant drive from max. Definitely up there with his best.
Word on the street is, Max gets a10 place grid penalty in Las Vegas. It seems it's not allowed to give DRIVING LESSONS during an F1 Grand Prix. If you have any information regarding the location of Buxton, Herbert, and Hill, please contact your local police station.
Are you sure you meant to include Buxton here? Buxton was the one who called Max's meteoric rise, all the way back in 2015, and in general tends to be pretty neutral, even if Max gets his driving wrong, like in Mexico
Every all time great in F1 has pulled off at least one drive where they were unquestionably in a league of their own and delivered some serious psychological damage to their championship rival in the process. Today was that day for Max. He had no right to do what he did today and showed the level he is capable of. A crushing win. And for Norris, time for a long hard look in the mirror.
The fact that as i am writing this there is still no decicion on the starting procedure infringements and the situation with mercedez and their tires just goes to show how incompetent the fia and these stewards are. Absolute disgrace really.
Insane. The safety implications for ignoring the light and starting another lap while the marshals are still out is huge. Sure it’s just a formation lap but common. It’s such an obvious infringement how is there any consideration to be left? Just hand out the penalty.
We all know if that was Red Bull penalties would already be applied, the Facebook posts would be everywhere talking about how Red Bull cheated by adjusting air pressure and jumping the green light lol
@tycondero1647 what gains did max have for that vsc infringement? What gains did Behrman have when he got penalized for causing a collision? An infringement is an infringement am I wrong? They most definitely need to be penalized.
@@tycondero1647 FIA keeps saying they hand out penalties regardless of the outcome. so this cannot be an argument. whether there is intended gains or not. its a clear breach of the rules DURING the race and is a clear driver error as all information was given. so it has to be a time penalty. tbh out of logic it has to be a DSQ. because thats what you get if you leave the pitlane when the light is red... sure thats harsh. and sure lando already got fucked enough by the race. and this will all be forgotten because now he wont win the WDC anyways but rules are rules. 5k bro, when im on pole ill just drive the entire race in formation laps and pay 5k per lap. easy done.
At that moment in the race Max had extensively used his tires to overtake 10 drivers, Norris had not done anything with his tires slotting in behind Russell.
Max showed us today one of the best drives ever driven in formula one history! Only 5 other drivers have won a race starting from 17th or more to win the race. Taking in account the conditions of the track and the gap by which he won, it could be well the best ever performance ever period! This is up there to be remembered as the drive of Ayrton at Donington.
It wasn’t talent or luck. It was skill. Max is kind of an ass, which makes sense because he was raised by an ass. But is also simply better than the rest of them, and it isn’t close.
TBH people should not take any comment by an angry or very dissapointed driver very serious directly after the race. Even Max has sprouted stuff he normally wouldn't under heavy emotions.

this drive was a mix of Schumacher at Jerez in 1996 and Raikkonen at Suzuka in 2005 and Senna at Donnington Park in 1993 the best of many drives put in one
No stats at the end Mr. Windsor? And the British press couldn’t be bothered to show up? If it were any other driver, they’d be falling over themselves. This kind of disregard is sackable. We’re witnessing history in the making, GREATNESS and it's unfortunate that the recognition will only come afterwards just like we saw with others like Vettel.
They also did not show Max crossing the finish line on the live broadcast when he won his second world title. That was a clear sign that the British F1 media is as ugly as it can be.
@@JC-lu4se the FIA still made some very odd calls today - taking 12-18s for the first two red flags in Quali, then taking 52s for the Stroll red flag. Combine that with them being on Verstappen immediately in the sprint, and Johnny Herbert and Teddy Mayer having a hand in some very odd decisions lately… yeah, I‘ll stick with there being a british bias. We need to do better as a sport, bring dedicated stewards that are paid and don‘t have direct ties to any team.

When he was knocked out in Q2, I thought, if ever he needed a drive for the ages this was it. And did he deliver. What an awesome drive and driver. In Ayrton Senna's home town. How poignant is that.
It really was a masterclass by Max. Lando did what he usually does...bottled it. Charles looked pretty comfortable out there. I'd say other than the Alpines, who were racing with the confidence that they were overachieving massively already, Charles looked by far the most comfortable out there (outside of Max, obviously) WHEN the car wasnt deciding to try to commit sepuku. Overall an excellent race. But something about watching Max driving in the rain is awesome. I mean its always awesome to watch him with his incredible skill, but the rain just hits different.
I’m English and a massive Lewis fan but that was one of the greatest drives in history. It annoyed me so much. 😂👍🏽 Congratulations to Max Verstappen on making history. A very measured, controlled and quick race. He made everyone else look very ordinary or amateurish. Very happy also to see Ocon and Gasly have a good day for P2 and P3. Lando was totally wrong to say this win had anything to do with luck. This was Max doing what he does. Red Bull did well to support him but this was down to the driver. And it annoys me so much. 😂 If Max was a truly dirty driver like some of the legends of the past, he would have been happy to knock people off track and sit back with his points advantage. He drove the cleanest race of everyone and he has said that is his ambition for the rest of the season. EDIT: If Max wins the Driver’s Championship with Red Bull coming 3rd in the Constructors’, that will show the quality of his driving this year.

Peter I have heard you a few times going on about the British press, can I point out its the English centric press that keeps coming out with the sound bits, quotes and the anti Max stuff. Can you say English press from now on and not include the other three countries that make up the UK as we don't necessarily share the English press view point. What we witnessed São Paulo was a thing of beauty! Pure genius at work! For me one of the best drives I have witnessed in 50 years watching the sport. Truly magnificent!!
Many thanks to you Peter, for your epic analysis of the Brazilian GP. It was a stunning performance by Max and those "fast laps" he was clicking off in the later part of the race were amazing. I've heard the total was 17 and/or 15. I don't remember anybody, in those conditions, reeling off fast lap after fast lap. The guy is amazing.
I’m Brazilian and a big fan of Super Max . 61 years old . I started to like Formula 1 when I was 17 years old. My idol was Nelson Piquet. For me he was the best driver and a car tuner. In his time there were 6/7 teams competing on equal terms. Much more competition than Senna and Prost who won 15 of 16 races. It was only Maclaren. The same happened with Hamilton who only had Mercedes! That's why he won so many races. I always liked Piquet and not Senna. And I'll root for Max to win many more titles 🇧🇷🇧🇷
The British press probably got community service for disrespecting Max so they couldn't attent the press conference. They probably had to take down the statue they already made for Lando.
UK F1 media/online punditsphere has become a global joke. And as usual with mainstream media nerds not hip enough to read the room, they'll be the last ones to realize it...if they ever do. PW is a shining exception, in fact he's not even really part of that group at all. He's a brilliant, insightful and independent-minded F1 commentator/pundit with enough integrity and self-respect to call it EXACTLY as he sees it (and god knows there is HUGE pressure from some very powerful, indeed arguably the MOST powerful, people in the sport on anyone in F1 with any reach at all to parrot the virulent and irrational anti-Max, anti-RBR narrative.) And Max himself trolls them in the most hilarious ways himself. Great work as ever by PW, always my first-watch F1 summary/analysis.
Any of the 9 out of the 17 fastest laps that Max set in that race would have been sufficient enough for the fastest lap point above Norris, that's simply f**king insane. He was REALLY driving a point home to everyone there.

Same! As a long time follower of max that even surprised me
The only thing that could have made this race even better, is if he would save his sliding car again like he did in 2016, goooooosebumps moment!
That was a champions drive today from Max. With all the pressure on him, to do it the way he did was something special.

In history Max is the 5th driver to win P17->P1, but first to win in heavy raining conditions, with no DRS. Unicum, true Masterclass.
Sebastian Vettel did something similar in the same track in 2012 recovering himself after being crashed by Bruno Senna and coming back after being backwards in the back of the grid.

@joineralbert2493 fan of all the drivers 20 of them except maybe lance 👌🏻

Not only a statement race, but an emotional and career defining race from Max. Words can't do it justice what I saw today it was absolutely incredible
I have been watching for 18 years ....and this is one of the best performances ever according to me ....and one of the best wet weather racing performances ever .....
Max is the goat of goats! What a legend
Lando's comment that it was luck and not skill was so salty. many will lose respect for him after this comment.
Agree, but at the same time give the guy a bit of slack. Not easy to accept that effectively it is very very unlikely that he has a chance for the title this year. After qualifying he dreamt of scoring big on Max. A few hours later and it proved to be just a dream.
@@tycondero1647Lando biggest cry baby on the grid.
“You cannot overtake fifteen cars when it’s sunny weather, but you can when its raining” -Ayrton Senna
didnt Max do it in dry in Spa ? or was it P14 ?
Peter I have heard you a few times going on about the British press, can I point out its the English centric press that keeps coming out with the sound bits, quotes and the anti Max stuff. Can you say English press from now on and not include the other three countries that make up the UK as we don't necessarily share the English press view point. What we witnessed São Paulo was a thing of beauty! Pure genius at work! For me one of the best drives I have witnessed in 50 years watching the sport. Truly magnificent!!
Absolutely masterful performance from Max. Perfect example of why he's the best driver of our generation. Just magnificent. 17th to 1st. 🏆
He wanted to prove a point and to silence all the naysayers. They need to get rid of the DRS and find ways to let the car follow each other.
Max showed mclaren how to use the PAPAYA RULES simply lovely!!
Max deserved to win, congratulation Max
Remember Brasil 2016? This was a repeat of 2016, but with a win now. Thanks Peter for your insights on the race.
The British press probably got community service for disrespecting Max so they couldn't attent the press conference.
They probably had to take down the statue they already made for Lando.
Lol they can do service together with Max then! 😂
@Rimpreza would love to be a fly on the wall for that.
Verstappen is currently the smartest driver in F1.
Both in driving and understanding the rule book.
Brilliant Max just perfect driving.
Any of the 9 out of the 17 fastest laps that Max set in that race would have been sufficient enough for the fastest lap point above Norris, that's simply f**king insane. He was REALLY driving a point home to everyone there.
