- Amira shows her craftsmanship by singing Mozart's "Voi Che Sapete" during the Steenbergen Aqua Musica concert in May 2017.
Her song is followed by one of the best Mozart performers from the 20th century: opera diva Maria Louise Ewing, who was on the top of her career during the 70's and 80's.

@Geoffrey Goldberg This performance took place in May 2017 when Amira was just 13 years old. Since then, not only has her voice matured a lot, she has also improved her breathing technique and her pronunciation of Italian.

Birthday of both Amira and Maria is the same, March 27.
Seeing the lyrics makes a huge difference in appreciating the songs. Otherwise it's just a string of pleasant sounds.
Good comparison Ray with Amira and Maria Ewing. Both really really good but Amira though - for me - has a warmer more acoustically vibrant more tonal voice. I think this is why many say they can listen to Amira all day every day while other top sopranos would be turned of after a while. There never are any winners though as all are tops.

Beautiful clip! A wonderful and very passionate song about the first mysterious and inexplicable heartbeats for love, beautifully sung by both artists.
It takes me back over the years, to the time of my first love at school!
However, without taking anything away from Maria Edwing who is very good and very professional, when I listen to Amira's version I feel something that enters my heart and crosses my soul that I have never tried with any other singer. Our little Princess is unique in making your heart vibrate too, only she has this magical power, "...Non so ch'il tiene, non so cos'è" !!! ❤️

The comparison was just and wise.
For moments, from one voice to another, i couldn't make the difference. One is more mature, the other not, she is an infant. But the voices are very alike, as if it was younger Maria and older Amira. You are a genius.
Maria José; I love opera and classical music since I was 14-15. Listening in the early 60 to Verdi (Nabucco, Aida, La Traviata) and Beethoven and Brahms, and the famous The Academy of St Martin in the Fields orchestra. I can still hum large parts of Brahms Symphony 1 and 4. Loved Saint-Saëns and played the album of Gershwin's 'American in Paris' all through. Thank you so much for your comment.

I would have loved to see Maria Ewing playing the role of Cherubino. Truly outstanding. During Amira's performance, I was puzzled at 1:44. You have the correct subtitle: I feel an affection, full of lust. But Amira does not sing the lyrics of this aria "Sento un affetto pien' di desir'. Rather, she seems to repeat parts of a previous verse. What was it ? Political correctness ?
George, when she sang this song for the first time she was 10 years old. Maybe Sony made her sing less 'explicit adult'. When I made the video I had also trouble to hear what she sang.
@@RayVandenburg Thank you, you are probably right. As far as I can pick up what amira sings, it sounds "Vi chi sapere, vi ridiro". The very first time Amira sang the arie, she had the correct lyrics. At the end of the day, just an amusing incident. You may know that Caruso himself had an aftrnoon recording session before which he had a good lunch and plenty of wine. I do not remember which aria he recorded, but he improvised lyrics to talk about the great pasta and wine he had just eaten. The record was released with the improvised lyrics !
Hi Ray, could it be the wedding ring at minute 3,25? It shows the page that the countess is married. I doubt that in those days that type of ring was used.
