The rich kid tries to impose his superiority (his idea of happiness) over the poor kid by showing off his materialistic possessions to feel good about himself. Thus he picks up a "fight". He tries to break him as hard as he can. However, the poor kid doesn't lose his spirit and decides to keep himself happy with everything "little" he has. In the end, the rich kid accepts his defeat with a realization that he's not content. Also, him withdrawing himself from his toys, and the tower falling is shown as a metaphor for his defeat and his inability to find joy despite having "everything". "Two" explains the duality of happiness. One that comes from possessions and the other that comes from within.

I don't think a renowned and pro realist filmmaker like Ray would purposefully not give credit to anyone. It could be so that the street kid or his family didn't want to have their name out in public, since working in films at that time was seen as heinous and not as glamorous as it is today.
It could also be so that the street kid was unable to introduce himself properly and was hence, just used in the film without crediting.

VFX artists are contributing more in a film than a filmmaker which is really awful. Baji Rao Mastani, Padmavat in Bollywood and Mank in Hollywood. But on those days Ray, Kubrick, Tarkovsky, Bergman, Kurosawa used to achieve special effects manually on their own with meticulous dedication and hard work which they used to do themselves. This had made them the Real Masters of Cinema.Kudos.

It's sad how many viewers don't realise that this short film is a subtle portrayal of the *American-Vietnam War* 🇺🇸🇻🇳 by Ray with classic usage of symbolism and metaphors.
At the beginning, look at the *Mickey Mouse cap* and *Coca Cola* symbolising the US. The rich kid is shown to have all the materialistic joys of life yet is insecured by the poor kid's happiness (Much like the US intrusion in Vietnam)....His *loud toys* symbolise the advanced weapons against whom the simple flute, kite etc. is no match..... But at the end, we all know what happened in history, as the rich kid sits lost in the music of the flute and his "toys" crumble down...👏👏👏

In the last scene , the toy falls and breaks like the rich boy. I think its a tale of 2 inner life spirit. One who seems to be rich but confined to a window. Another who seems poor but being in the wide open spirit of life. While one wants to win to justify the walls , one just allows his free spirit to flow enjoying his existence. Such a strong visual. No need to take home any message, sometimes its life as it is.

If I am not wrong it’s the same structure in modern society, rich earns money and try to show to the poor that he is happy if poor doesn’t care about it they will try to disgrace them and make themselves look better and bigger in terms of happiness and prestige if they are not successfull in makkng poor sad they feel unhappy after all their efforts. This is a masterpiece , he tried to show that the way we pursue happiness is wrong we must feel good about ouuselves from within and not by mocking others or doing harm to them because it never gonna work.

Unfortunately, Ray does NOT show that the poor is still happy. In fact, he shows the poor retreat and disappear, so the rich has indeed succeeded in stamping out the happiness of the poor - just as the rich have succeeded in making the poor miserable in OUR society. HOWEVER, Ray does show that this victory is hollow and does NOT make the rich happy. Ray is telling an all around sad little story, for no one comes out well in the end.

I believe the rich kid is only IMAGINING hearing the tune of flute which the poor boy played at the beginning of the film. It is the poor boy's absence which is finally so heart-rending. Satyajit Ray shows how memory and the pangs of conscience are finally working on the soul of the rich kid. Listen to that lonely wind at the end - the little poor kid is NOT there. This is a metaphor for martyrdom: They can kill Gandhi or Martin Luther King, but they can't kill their songs. That is what brings tears to my eyes.
