- Sampras was the best in the business at the running forehand, the curve ball usually associated with left handers, Jeff Tarango claims to have taught Sampras the shot when they were teenagers, often applying sidespin as well as topspin.

It was always a spectacle flipping through the non-digital channels and end up on a Sampras match. My favorite player of all.
This clip just makes me miss the serve and volleyers of old...
To do that shot on that tiny 400g weighed Pro staff 85 on gut strings.... this is Nadal like. It was even more wicked when it went cross court on the run.
If you can hit with the sweet spot, that Pro Staff is accurate like a laser beam.
Sampras es el mejor de todos y será el mejor de todos los tiempos
Playing to Pete's forehand was a bit of a ritual suicide. No wonder virtually everybody was fanatic about playing to his backhand.
Nice compilation! There were just a few double faults that I thought should have been edited out.
+mike G Thanks. BY the way, there are no double faults on the compilation. For me, when a player misses a first serve and then play is developed due to the dynamics of a 2nd serve point, that's part of the story and to me is important to maintain and not edit out.
This really shows how clutch and steely Sampras was. He had to back up his serve with an incredibly formidable groundg ame. When he's defending he can find the narrowest window to thread the needle through. Only Nadal is in the same league. They're like mirrors of each other (when it comes to passing shots).
4:00 I think Edberg's been teaching that to Federer if Cincy final vs Djokovic is anything to go by. Rush forward right as Sampras reaches the apex of service motion on second serve, bash the return, and go to net. The net-cord killed him on that point, but that was pretty cool to watch nonetheless.
Fed's running forehand is better than petes. Modern day players are a step up in terms of defense. HOWEVER if Pete had polyester he would be awesome. He did this with gut. Insane rotation. Pete was not a good defender, I suffered a lot watching him at RG and AO and even other matches. He is my favourite player along with Fed. I do agree that the steely clutch nature of pete is similar with Rafa. But its rare to have that kind of mentality.
Pete was a very good defender, as evidenced here 05:49
Sympathies, being a Pete fan during clay season had to have been painful. I'm a millenial Petros fan, so never went through that.
@@farid1406 It was annoying but it was a different era back then. He had some great moments but wasn't consistent from season to season.
JoeDeLucia D, Pere’s forehand is the ever..Roger’s comes second of all time...
After all these years, I am still trying to figure out how Sampras pulled off this shot 05:19 Where is the racquet take back?
I thought he did not use topsin, but in those shots certanly he did.
Sampras was a spin master, his manipulation of spin in his game is masterful. On the serve, the slice on the volleys, the spin on running forehands.
A study from the 1998 US Open showed his forehand generated around 2000 rpms in general and over 3000 rpms when he put more spin.
who's the chick at 10:00?
+bak eteng Sampras' ex girlfriend, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley
+Burns Tennis father of the bride?
+bak eteng Yes, that's right.
only one is cross-court. so predictable...
Indeed, so predictably brilliant ;-) This is a video concentrating on down the line forehands by the way.
predictable or unpredictable, they still couldn't touched it. You have to ask the guys who played him to have a bit of feelings.
Peter Zhang, what a stupid comment.. Are you the goat of tennis in knowledge?
