Richard Hammond going through some of the old Top gear episodes, is a reminder how good it used to be and when these three left, it just never recovered. When Botswana was mentioned, all I remember is OLIVERRRRRR!!!!!
That special had one of my all-time favorite lines from Top Gear. Clarkson flips his bonnet up on the windshield of his Range Rover, and peers through the cooling vents he cut as his only method of seeing the road. "The scope of my engineering genius literally knows no bounds."
I agree. The only podcast I subscribe to currently is the smoking tire podcast, but I think it's so much better to put it on a side screen while working rather than just listen.
4:45 the way Hammond signals Alex to stop it with the schoolboy jokes is so gentlemanly. Alex should know better and treat his guests with more respect
Alex doesn't seem to know how to read the guest. Richard is not the guy you see on camera outside of it. Not to say he's a douchebag, but he's more reserved and less of a joker.
He's always thrown in the worst possible scenarios when doing anything Top Gear / The Grand Tour... though lately James May has been getting that honor. Richard is a legend!
I love Hammond getting involved in social media. Drivetribe, Autoalex, Mat Armstrong. He loves to chat about all things Top-Gear, Grand Tour, car related.
One of the things which really set him off as a cut above the rest was when he interviewed Jimmy Broadbent and started the interview by saying he knew absolutely nothing about Jimmy's world but wanted to learn about it.
Love how Hammond tell his stories about the adventures of the trio 😊 Why dont you post all the podcast here? If you record them in video too? I love to see them in full not just clips
The engagement per minute of podcasts on YT is much lower and YT uses that metric to give visibility to a channel, so if some videos don't do as well the others eventually will drop in reach
And uploading only the most interesting bits on YT is bringing content to those who can't listen to whole podcasts, and have no time to look for that particular section. Notice that with the amount of content of a 30min Top Gear challenge you could make 8 videos with YT pace of narration
The Bolivia challenge is the best i still remember it as i seen it yesterday first time . Watched it many times after that loved da cruiser. And love the podcasts
I love auto alex's questions. And I love hearing about these extra super interesting things like a personal 'toughest challenge' and things that couldn't get onto the final show. Great video!
The proper Top gear with the proper trio will forever be a TV icon. It's nice to see you having anatter with him Alex as to be honest I see your channel as the modern evolution of the TV show. Passionate car enthusiast hosts, just having good times. And bad 😅 Would be wicked to have Richard join you on a big roadtrip, "to show you how it's done" 😅
Driving that Land Cruiser through the rain forest with out a clutch? Jesus, major props to Hammond. If I'd known that it didn't have a clutch from the beginning I would have been even more astounded by that special. Later on he does reveal this issue, but from the start? Wow. That is serious wheel man skill to off-road without a clutch.
The Bolivia to Peru's Atacama Desert is my favorite special. I stole a line from it. I like to say, "Insects! Millions of them!" to people who just moved to Florida when the cicadas begin to sing. And then I run away.
I've been a loyal follower of these guys whichever network theyv been on and Bolivia always felt like they had pushed the envelope just that bit far. That scene where Hammond looks genuinely terrified of the jungle. And the cars were more broken than usual.
Before i watch this, I going to guess it was the race to the North Pole. I actually felt bad for Hammond on that one. What a fantastic special that was.
i would think the death road part of that trip would have been scarier or driving across the bamboo bridge in burma special with a big truck, though i figure they probably had some i beams hidden for the last part where they drove the trucks across.
It makes me so sad that after the next 2 grand tour specials, thats it, no more, they are stopping. I get they are getting on a bit and it’s become really hard work, makes perfect sense, but I feel like I am losing a major thing in my life that I look forward to and has been there for a very, very long time. I always get this little boy giddy excitement when I know one is coming. It was a proper escape from life.
I think it was a good idea for them to stop. Everything must end at some point. It's best for them to end it right now and still do things together eventually, but it was a warning when Clarkson, May and Hammond started their own businesses with Richard selling quite a bunch of his own cars to finance his venture. Even though they're starting to enter their 60s, their age is starting to show.
Bolivia was a great episode. The African episodes where Richard had a Subaru was also great. The hunt for the top of the Nile was also great. Argentina was scary and caused me to never want to visit there.
Please upload the full postcasts to UA-cam! :) All the other podcasts I listen to are on here, this is the only one that isn't, so I just end up watching the clips.
Upload the full thing please. You still upload the individual clips then uploaf the full. I dont want to keep breaking the pace waiting for the conversation to continue
Did I missed 3 podcast episodes? I thought the last one was the Nurburgring trip one, and that this one is the next episode. I did not get any notifications about all the other ones...
@@mrracecar3692 I listen them on Аmаzоn music, but get no notifications. Also, on YT they release short clips from the last podcasts, and the previous one was from the Nurburgring drive one, so I had no idea that there where a few new ones available...
Aah Richard i'm also scared of spiders 🕷 its the only thing i'm scared of. Its better now, only the big ones strike fear into me I just freeze when i see one. I can't even kill it. Only a few percentage of people are not scared of spiders, its something in the brain that is missing if you love spiders. I can't even put my hand on a picture of a spider, so i have a bad case of arachnophobia
A spider the size of your hand that can cause your flesh to rot?!! There is not enough money in the world that would have enticed me to get back in that car, especially in the dark!😮😮
The Brown Recluse story doesn't quite add up, either Hammond isn't recalling it right, or the Dr. that told him it was a BR doesn't know what he's talking about. First of all, the rainforest isn't the kind of climate for the brown recluse. It's possible. But extremely unlikely. Second, they are not the size of your hand, a brown recluse, maximum, 6mm-20mm. Now, possible spiders he could be talking about are tarantulas based off his given size description, or a Brazilian Wondering Spider based off his accurate rotting flesh description.
stop interrupting your guests while they're telling the stories. you're adding nothing. wait till they finish that segment of the story then ask about something else
When I think about all their journeys and predicaments they have been in over the years, I always thought it was when angry humans were involved they were at the greatest risks. Because if you get bitten by an animal, there is usually an antidote, if it has big teeth, there is a man with a gun... but how do you stop a mob of angry people that may take things way too far? Not to mention that the only reason the trio ends up in hospital is because they've done something stupid... or gotten a horse involved.
Hammond really knows how to tell a story, great podcast gents
agreed, his background in radio shows so well
Multiple decades in broadcasting innit.
Richard Hammond going through some of the old Top gear episodes, is a reminder how good it used to be and when these three left, it just never recovered. When Botswana was mentioned, all I remember is OLIVERRRRRR!!!!!
He took Oliver home and fully restored it as I remember...and always got roasted by Jeremy and James for naming his cars as well! :D
numbers wise, it did recover, not near the iconic trio's numbers but higher than many detractors of the new show expect
That special had one of my all-time favorite lines from Top Gear. Clarkson flips his bonnet up on the windshield of his Range Rover, and peers through the cooling vents he cut as his only method of seeing the road.
"The scope of my engineering genius literally knows no bounds."
Richard is such a professional. I start to look at all he does online as an art.
still wanna watch the full videos of these podcasts
I agree. The only podcast I subscribe to currently is the smoking tire podcast, but I think it's so much better to put it on a side screen while working rather than just listen.
Everyone kind of just watches post casts nowadays aswell we need that

Me too, but there would be limit on how much Clarkson I'd want to listen to.
Didn’t think I needed ANOTHER podcast but this one’s slowly becoming a household favourite
We have Brown Recluses in the Southern US. They're not only big but aggressive. I had one CHARGE me. Finally smashed it but it took years off my life.

I was thinking it would be when he was on that mountain in the snow with nothing but a watch to rescue him. He looked really really angry
How much of a complete go getter and fearless individual Hammond is totally understated.
