Even on a rainy day, your home is 99% drier than its been since the 1980s.....
Nah, still got no roof on the tower or the central hallway that connects all areas at the top.
More like 85-90%.
Getting the central hallway covered will be most of the remaining area.
Then they can just put a tarp up over the tower until they are ready to put the roof on.
CC🎉r Cp
Could use plastic on the windows, until they get real windows. A temporary window fix.
BUT LOOK!! Big storm and it is still mostly dry inside!! Yes, some leaks, but that is nothing like it was raining inside before.
The roof is certainly a challenge but that pointed wall is f…… awesome!
I know, right!?
With that beautiful stonework, I'd be happy living in the basement!
Your thumbnail photo is fantastic. Biblical sky of doom, so very cinematic.
Toujours aussi courageux les amis!
J’espère que le temps va être plus propice pour la suite des
Travaux.
Haut les cœurs ! A coeur vaillant rien d’impossible! C’est ce que vous démontrez tous les jours.❤
Tres bien dit
…and in the meantime
In the basement…..
The stone master works
from top down in style ……!
The repointing really makes the stonework look better.
The weather has certainly rapidly changed. Everywhere. These storms have no mercy. The man doing the pointing is making a great job. Still very exciting Dan. Stay safe.
We have a hurricane about to hit Florida in the US. It will sweep up through Georgia where we are. Expecting 60 mph winds and 10+ inches of rain.
The stonework looks fantastic. I really do hope that you have saved the OSB and framework that you have worked so hard to build. Good luck mate and the rest of the team.
The framework will be alright, it was treated wood, will need a spraying of wood treatment when slates are put on though, OSB board really needs replacing on the first finished end though, the other parts should be okay, depends on what the Winter weather brings!?!
@@TomTomicMic It depends on which OSB boards he used. No1, 2 or 3. No 3 can resist some water.
Advantech is industry best, should have used it for the roof if available @@KjerstiNagel
@@KjerstiNagelYou can be sure they are the cheapest ones he could get. He said in a previous video that they were not supposed to get wet, so I doubt they are water proof.

So sorry about the awful weather. Please take care.
Thanks Dan!

Oh my god Dan and crew that was terrible weather to have to climb to those heights and fix the covering. But a stitch in time saves nine. What a team and the stone mason is a fabulous addition. Some lovely close ups camera man 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Everybody on Earth is replaceable, that's how we have gotten this far, it's sort of built in, it's up to employers and each individual to last as long as possible by doing best practises, luckily Nick is there with the harness safety it seems to work quite well in all conditions, when they use it!?!
@@TomTomicMic Until it doesn’t. What these people are doing is insanity on steroids.
I must admit I can't understand why the later waterproof membrane didn't have more nails on it as with the slightest breeze it was lifting at the edges. Also why didn't you attach the wooden buttons as Brian did earlier 🤔🤔🤔
Jeeeeez! - the weather in the UK (SW) today was monumentally shite but the weather where you are looks to be Biblically shitterer by a significant margin. Well done for being valliant and manly despite the weatheryshitness! - credit to your strengths of characters all round.
What? A bit of rain and wind? 😂😂😂😂
Hey Dan! As part of the armchair choir, wait no I'm not! Keep up the good work and maybe you could give the choir a little thrill now and again.
Oh Dan, you are so right, it’s such a curse of trying to put the roofs on the chateau.
So dangerous like the first one that wasn’t properly fitted out like Brian did on the 2nd roof.
Good luck with getting the A-frames up tomorrow, We know how determined you are to get it all sealed up. I wish you all the best. ☘️
Wish he had tiled to first 2 mansory roofs. Oh, well.
@@dennispatrick4999 I know they brought the tile in but I would think watching some other chateau Reno’s, you’d need a pretty calm and dry day to do that and sealing the chateau would take the priority right now. 3 man crew, but I love the stone masons speed and skill repairing that lower section of the chateau.
@donmorrow1923 RIght, but Dan had the Window to tile the first 2 Mansory Roofs. At least they would have been finished and sealed prior to winter.
I did construction and get that there's so much work for him to deal with. But, he shouldn't jump around so much.
He started to seal windows; but stopped doing it. The Turret could have waited until the other 2 roofs were tiled.
Yes, man power is an issue.
@@dennispatrick4999 There’s also the gutters that need to be formed, fitted and installed with the downspouts and proper drainage around the chateau. Endless project for these roofs.
be a good idea to obtain some engineering advice and allow a proper architect design these timber roofs . I'm surprised that the French allow him to get this far.

Dan, you are slipping into some old, risky patterns.
It’s not important to get the roof on by the end of the week.
You are an employer and first priority is safety and quality of work.
Secure the roof membrane with wooden slates to prevent further damage.
The cold and wet/slippery season is approaching. You don’t want to be on that slippery membrane, time and again.
The slats also provide some grip when on that roof.
Once that is in place, you should focus on the next roof.
Life is all about learning to control our emotions and impulses and make rational and logical decision.

Very interesting point you raise there at the end. And of course, you are 100% right with all other points too.
@@fotter9567 On the original roof he used battens, so why did he omit this on the latest ones ?

nothing is worse than water inside on a construction site, need the roof permanent done, membrane is only a underlying protection...!
I think they’re working on it!😂😂😂
I don't think the slate will go on until next Spring (Hopefully not during Winter anyway), so more repairs required, I think they understand the urgency and are doing their best, but it's a big project, this time next year will see a big improvement in the roof, hopefully all will be finished by then, that will be a big milestone!?!

it has been shown on Stephanie's channel, chateau diaries. it is growing well but he isn't maintaining it like pulling weeds so things are overgrowing. he said he doesn't have time for that now so he will deal with it next year...
A bot stole your comment.
Sorry Dan…you are using the wrong fasteners for your roof membrane! The nails with a plastic washer keep the membrane from tearing off the nails you used! The washers spread the surface area of the fasteners.
Also, he should have mounted the counter battens on all roofs not just on one. They really secure the membrane against those conditions...
Or perhaps hes just using whatever nails he has right now? They are in a hurry to save that thing from water damage
@@TJ13062010 he probably didn't want to lose the time in doing so... best to do the job the right way the first time but everyone learns this at some point
@@kopilovicdmore haste less speed
@@kopilovicd I was referring to what he should have done months ago 🙂. The battens are the wooden parts which the guys have mounted on one of the three roofs. They would have prevented this desaster entirely.
This is exactly why Brian put that external ribbing on the second roof. Strongly suggest the same is done on all roof's. Winter is coming... The weather is like bad MORAL this time of year...

He’s doing a GREAT job.
The membrane flies away because on that site you don't have wood on the membrane, only nails... The other site is much stronger 😮
Been there before,
Typically when leaving exposed roof membrane for an extended time we will always place wood lath boards onto it. That would help you stay dry....

Glad you got that membrane back on. Watching the rain come in gives me PTSD symptoms. Nothing worse than water being where you have worked so hard to keep dry. That roof can't get finished fast enough.
Just checked the weather report for La Creuse for Wednesday and Thursday. Turns out there was no storm, only strong winds with gusts of up to 70 km/h. Sorry mate, but this doesn’t classify as storm, and surely not ‘insane’ storm. It’s just that your sloppy work begins to show. But nice try. 😂😂😂
Good luck fellas. I hope the weather will be kind.
Dan we know you’d like the frames up tomorrow. Given the weather, we’d all like to see many more episodes of the build without any of you in a cast. Just saying.
I don't even worry about you guys, I've seen you do it so many times! You really did evolve from apes😅 seriously I know your careful and thoughtful about what your doing.😊
With all due respect your lucky the arch or a chimney didn't collapse and take out much of your hard work. You have changed the wind dynamics about all the above and have no idea what the consequences may be. So stabilising everything should be a priority.

I have that very same type of adjustable wrench which I have had since 1963 , I passed my 5 yr city and guilds plumbing using it and The next 51 years ,I used it yesterday, a bit battered and worn just like me .
The gentleman in the basement is dry. I hazard guess that roof battens are the first order of business at this point. I know you are excited to get the tourette roof done but if you all don’t get the roof membrane applied properly elsewhere, you will have bigger issues that will cost in the long run. Doing things the correct way the first time is cheaper. Stay safe gentlemen.
I don't know why you didn't get the battens on the other roofs in the first place Dan, it would have stopped the membrane coming off or better still get on and tile those roofs before the weather really hits in. Then concentrate on the final piece of roof when time allows. Don't let all the hard work you guys have done so far get ruined.
Доброй ночи. Вы просто молодцы. 😊👍🧚♂️👣
I told you you needed cap nails like 6 months ago.... if you don't have your roof on, you need something more than the head of a nail to hold the membrane down.
Dude in the basement really knows his shit
Well he’s a professional, see the difference?
fingers crossed the weather will behave and you can get the last roof on and get to tiling before you lose anymore stuff. The walls do look great well done Mason man :) and team Chaumont

Know how you feel. Florida is getting hit by hurricane just nasty wet weather with gusty winds added for ones discomfort.
I am by Tampa and it's grinding out there. I thought this morning it would be by us but there it is, just being a putz. Sometime this evening it will go by and maybe not be a 4 when it hits land.
the turret roof dangling in a storm will be epic, after that it will all be boring, culminating when Dan starts focusing on porcelain and wallpaper like the other chateau people...
It will be vaguely amusing watching him chasing out the stone walls for utilities. But, yeah, once construction finishes it gets less interesting.

You guys are the bravest construction crew ever. In the US the safety Nazis would shut you down big time. Just be careful,we don’t want any of you guys injured.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Dan is entertaining, sadly he shows poor decision making and time management. Its quite obvious he should have been putting on the slate tiles to protect the already completed part of the roof.
Totally agree he should have focused Totally on finishing each section amd without proper external scaffolding that chateaux will not have any.tiles
That's exactly why I questioned the priorities in the past (eg. gardening work) when the weather was still nice to get the whole building cladded and 100% waterproof. This is just the beginning and there's still not a single shingle up there. Makes it also very dangerous now to operate on the roof in these conditions, even for pros.
Jep, spot on. But he knows best, like all idiots.
@@fotter9567 oh, I got flamed for that comment last time. Yet, whenever I watch tv shows like Grand Designs (no matter if UK, AUS or NZ) the importance of getting the building water proof is always stressed.
Was the same in my own house somehow.
Yet, I’m called names when it comes to this project and I wonder why so many other tasks like clearing basement rooms or planting trees/garden etc are done whilst this important task is delayed.
I get it, I too have the tendency to delay things that seems very difficult until it’s no longer possible to delay. It’s a human thing but it doesn’t make it the right approach as any builder can tell you.
